Chapter 36 The Jerk Will Be Toast
Lakisha raised her hand and said, “Call it a journalist’s instinct.”
Then she said in an undertone, “I heard Hector suddenly change his hairstyle. He had a thick bang now. Do you think something is wrong with it?”
The people in journalism knew walls had ears.
Hector abruptly chose to interview Flourish Media’s opponent instead. He also hired its photographers for the magazine cover shooting
From the pictures taken on the set, Hector’s bang almost covered his
eyes.
His forehead and nose were high, and he claimed a real handsome man didn’t need a bang. He was mocking his opponents who had bangs.

Rose remained silent.
It was normal for Hector to hate and slander her.
Celebrities used their faces to earn money. So, hurting their faces was a big deal.
But Rose didn’t regret it.
She was drugged then and missed the target because of her dizziness. She was aiming at his face. She released the maximum current to give him a disgraceful burn.
Tameka said Rose was a pushover.

But Tameka was wrong. Rose could fight back hard,
If anyone wanted to bully her, he would get wounds or even severely injured.
Hector didn’t dare to retaliate and kept his mouth shut. After all, he had evil intentions first.
If the news spread out, anyone sensible would wonder why Rose hit him.
Rose went to interview him, not to make an enemy.
If she hadn’t been pushed, how could she have tried to hurt him badly?
Rose knew Hector would keep it between them, and she wouldn’t tell anyone else the truth, either.
Celebrities and entertainment reporters were enemies and allies at the same time.
Although they would hurt each other for profit, they wouldn’t reveal dirty secrets unless they had to.
“Right, who was the woman from that day?” Lakisha suddenly asked.
Rose understood what she was talking about and answered, “My … mother-in-law.”
“I thought she was your mother because she was defending you.” Lakisha smacked her lips as she thought about that day. “It’s been a long time since I met someone so interesting…”
Rose was confused.
Was Lakisha attracted by Tameka?
Lakisha slapped Rose’s back and said, “When you and Judson have to see each other in court, you must ask her to come. I think she will give him a good lecture.”
Rose said, “Lakisha, you are… an amazing journalist.”
Tameka not only dared to yell at Judson, but she also hit him with her slippers.
While they chatted, low cheers came from the next group.
“Lakisha.” Tommie ran over and looked anxious. “A Romantic Past’ has been snat ched away by Eloy.”
“What?” Lakisha was so shocked that the lollipop in her mouth fell.
A Romantic Past” was a popular TV series that would go out in summer. The producers had been working with Flourish Media since the start of last year.
Lakisha fought hard for the interviews and propaganda of the show with her team.
However, when it was about to go out, and after all the work her team had done for it, another team actually snat ched it away?
It meant all her efforts would be in vain. When she was about to harvest the fruit, it was taken away.
As Tommie spoke, Eloy strode over proudly and said, “Lakisha, Lucy said you should send me all the information about ‘A Romantic Past’. I will have it followed up. Do it quickly, or it will hinder our work.”
Lakisha and Eloy were both chief editors of their teams. If they fought, nothing good would come out of it.
Lakisha angrily threw away her lollipop and walked to the director’s
office.
After a while, everyone in the office blocks heard Lakisha asking the entertainment section’s director loudly, “Lucy, why did you give ‘A Romantic Past’ to Eloy? It should be my team’s project. We were tasked with it.”
Eloy was the head of Team 2.
He and Lakisha didn’t get along, and they were opponents. Therefore, they fought a lot for news.
The office blocks were silent because no one wanted to miss out a word Lucy would say.
Although Lucy’s voice wasn’t loud, it was clear and easy to hear.
Lucy answered Lakisha’s question in a leisurely manner. “You know what happened in your team. It can’t be fully trusted. ‘A Romantic Past’ is important, so I don’t dare to make a bet. Eloy performed well last season, so let him wind it up.”
Lakisha was less confident and said. “She fainted from illness suddenly. It was out of my control.”
“Didn’t you have a Plan B?” Lucy asked. “You are experienced, so how could
you ask a rookie to do the job alone? I must assess your ability to lead a team again.”
–
Lakisha argued back, “Hector insisted she come alone, without cameramen or other personnel. He would only let Rose interview him.”
“He insisted? You didn’t know you should have someone go with her and wait outside? If something goes wrong, that person can be of use,” Lucy said.
“Hector wouldn’t allow others to come with Rose. He just wanted…”
“Then it was her fault!” Lucy interrupted Lakisha impatiently. “Why don’t you think about whether you are suitable for this job? If not, you should quit, in case you drag down your team. Don’t tell me Hector insisted. He had many requests, but why did he agree to let Orange Entertainment interview him?”
Orange Entertainment was Flourish Media’s archenemy. It would be a disgrace to Flourish Media if Orange Entertainment stole news from it.
Lakisha fell silent for a few seconds and still wanted to argue.
“It was Hector’s personal affair, but ‘A Romantic Past…”
“You should deal with the instability factor first,” Lucy said coldly. “Forget about ‘A Romantic Past. If you mess up again, I can’t keep you,”
Then Lakisha said something in a low voice, and no one outside heard it.
But Lucy didn’t lower her voice,
“I don’t care who is protecting her. In our line of business, we keep our jobs with our abilities. If she has other talents, let her stretch them in another industry. My department will not serve her. If she can’t work here, she can find a new job. But if we lose our business, who will support us?”
Lakisha came out of Lucy’s office.
The office blocks were utterly silent.
Rose slowly fiddled with the edge of her keyboard.
Darrin told her that she wouldn’t take any blame for Hector’s injury.
But Darrin’s subordinates could make things difficult for her.
Lucy yelled at Lakisha, but the words were meant for Rose.
Darrin told Lucy Rose couldn’t leave. But Lucy put pressure on her by giving Rose’s immediate superior a hard time, making it uncomfortable for Rose to work there.
At dinner, Darrin sent a text message asking Rose if she wanted to eat
with him.
Rose turned him down…
She took food to work and heated it up in the tea room. Then she took it outside the commissary and heard gossip.
“She lost Hector to Orange Entertainment. But Darrin still wants to keep her?”
“Well, I don’t know what to say.”
“Perhaps he wants her to work in the bottom level first before making her his secretary.”
“Well, the Entertainment Department is at the bottom of Flourish Media, so anyone can work in it.”
“I hope she will go to other departments soon. Please leave our department. She has just been here for a short time, but she messed up two times…”
“What else did she do other than losing Hector to Orange
Entertainment?”
“It is about Judson. Don’t you know the Roawards Group sued Flourish Media, demanding 13 million dollars of compensation?”
“Gee! She isn’t worth so much money! What is Darrin thinking? Why is he still helping her?”
“Perhaps she has a special talent to make Darrin think she is worth it…”
***
Rose didn’t care what these people were saying.
But she wouldn’t let them make things up about her relationship with Darrin.
She walked into the commissary and approached the group of people who were gossiping. Then she put her box of food on the long dining table heavily.
Everyone went quiet immediately…
They were badmouthing Rose and even hoped she would hear.
Rose strode to them aggressively, and they actually felt embarrassed.
They were all thinking about one thing-When did Rose start to hear their conversation?
Rose ignored their amusing embarrassment and said coldly.
“Hector will be toast in 3 days!”
Chapter 37 I Chase After Her
“Hector will be toast in 3 days?”
In the office, a woman with delicate makeup sneered coldly, “She really thinks Darrin will make things difficult for Hector for her? A lot of money has been spent on Hector to make him famous. How can they let her mess things up?”
“But Ab bie, everyone in my company says she is Darrin’s…”
Ab bie Sawyer swiped her curly long hair behind her shoulders and said, “They don’t know anything. In Rayvale Communication University, Rose pestered Darrin. He took care of her because she was in a lower grade than him. But she pushed her luck. She couldn’t find a job and asked him to let her work here.”
“Yes, low-level employees enjoy gossiping,” Lucky Cooper, the director of the Entertainment Department, echoed with a smile. “We middle-ranking leaders all know your relationship with Darrin, so I get mad every time I hear the gossip about Rose and him.”
“Darrin let it slide because he valued the time he spent with Rose in college, but she thinks too highly of herself because of it.” Ab bie rolled the end of her hair around her fingers hard.
Ab bie’s father was one of the founders of Flourish Media. After she graduated, she joined it and was now the director of its Finance Department.
She was in the same grade and department as Darrin in college, and most people in the department thought they belonged together.
Their parents and Ab bie all thought they would get married.
However, Rose enrolled in their college when they were in their junior
year.
Darrin started to spend more time with Rose.
Although he was gentle and kind to women, every time Rose came to see him, Ab bie could feel he was different.
Darrin would become very tender and patient. He was tolerant and smiled a lot.
Ab bie was jealous of Rose because of it and tried to sound Darrin out.
But Darrin explained to her honestly, “I’ve known Rose since we were kids. I think of her as my little sister.
It was true. Then Darrin graduated and joined Flourish Media. Later,
he went abroad and came back… Rose was never with him.
Ab bie stuck to him and expressed her desire to be with him directly and indirectly.
However, Darrin never gave her an answer.
A few years ago, Flourish Media had been attacked by the Roawards Group and other large companies.
Darrin rushed back home from abroad to save Flourish Media from the
crisis.
At the celebration party, he was drunk and missing.
When Ab bie found him, he was sitting near the windows on a high floor of the hotel. His feet were off the ground, and he looked down in a daze, asking her, “Tell me. Are dead people the most important?
“If I die, will she always remember me?”
Ab bie was terrified and rushed over to grab him, afraid that he would
fall.
Darrin was pulled back by her, his face stained by tears.
“I am so stu pid…” he choked. “I am a fool. Why did I leave her alone in the cafe? Why did I lie to her? She used to trust me so much… I abandoned her. I forced her to leave. I was still proud of it… But when she got together with another man, I chased after her because of regret. Am I a jerk?”
Ab bie asked, “Who is she?”
She felt threatened.
But Darrin wouldn’t tell her the woman’s name no matter what.
He sat below the windows and curled his leg, resting his head on his knee, his arm around the knee.
It was the first time Ab bie saw him so downbeat. She could only sit by him and comfort him.
After midnight, he slowly got sober and regained his composure.
Darrin never mentioned that night again.
And Ab bie never asked him the woman’s name.
She didn’t dare to do it.
Her intuition told her that was why Darrin wouldn’t date her all along.
She was afraid to know the truth. Because if she didn’t, she could continue lying to herself and have a chance to be with Darrin.
But now Rose returned.
She was nervous when she heard Lucy’s words,
Darrin gave Rose her job.
Rose’s article offended the Roawards Group and Judson, and Darrin helped her relieve the pressure the Roawards Group gave her.
Rose’s interview went wrong, but Darrin told his subordinates that it wasn’t her fault.
A bbie knew Darrin well. Although he looked nice, he was actually cruel. He would always punish his subordinates if they made mistakes.
But now he changed his methods for Rose.
“She is still on probation. She made such a big mistake and should be fired,” Lucy said to Ab bie: “But I can’t just dismiss her.”
Ab bie was known to have connections in Flourish Media, so Lucy often sweetened her up.
“I will put pressure on her and force her to leave…”
“No need.” Ab bie raised her hand. “It’s okay to give her pressure, but she doesn’t need to leave…”
Ab bie squinted. “Transfer her to my department!”
In Rayvale Communication University, Darrin used to protect Rose, so Ab bie couldn’t do anything to her.
Now Ab bie was in full charge of the Finance Department of Flourish Media.
The gossip
“It’s been two and a half days. She said Hector would be toast. I thought she had an ace.”
“I don’t think she has it. Hector is known to be diligent and has no scandals. No one has found any dirt on him. How can she have it?”
“If she really knows something, why would Hector refuse to let her interview him? I said one should take a task she could handle. She thinks she can have a meteoric rise just because she is pretty? She thinks we are freeloaders?”
“It’s hilarious. Perhaps the article about Judson and Lillian makes her think she is gifted?”
“I don’t think that article is good. Lakisha knows Darrin gave her the job, so Lakisha treats her differently. Lakisha gave her all the information about Judson and Lillian. She just needed to put it together. When she was trusted to do a mission by herself, she messed it up.”
“If we interviewed Hector, the magazine could be on sale now. Why did it have to be her? Now Orange Entertainment is the winner.”
“It’s been a long time since Flourish Media was defeated by Orange Entertainment. We all tried hard to prevent it from happening, but she broke our record so easily…”
“It’s a disgrace to Flourish Media!”
“By the way, the article about Judson has also caused Flourish Media trouble. Don’t forget about the 13 million dollars.”
“Well, everyone, back to your seats. 13 million dollars is here!”
