The Unwilling CEO’s Love Game Chapter 65

Chapter 65

Chapter 65

As Jocelyn just couldn’t bail, she sat all resigned and quiet in her seat, not uttering a word. Even if Melvin was scheming to sell her off at this moment, she wouldn’t say boo.

Melvin shot her a glance. “Still angry?”

“Nope.”

“It won’t happen again.”

“Can you keep Willow from darkening your company’s doorstep?”

Melvin’s brow puckered slightly. That’s a separate issue.”

“To me, it’s the same thing.” Jocelyn wasn’t looking to pick a fight, her tone still even-keeled. “She’s doing it on purpose, harassing my dad because she can’t get to you. You can’t guarantee she won’t pull another stunt like today’s, so your promises are worth

squat

Melvin was pretty even-keeled himself today. “It just happened to be your dad today, she would’ve done the same to anyone else.” “Coincidence?” Jocelyn snorted softly. “Why don’t you just say she didn’t know he was my dad then?”

“Jocelyn, can we be reasonable?

“I’m not throwing a fit or making a scene. Isn’t that being reasonable?” Jocelyn said, “Seeing how she treated my dad today and her smug face, I was holding back big time. I regret having not convinced him to reject that job at your company.”

Melvin pulled over to the curb and turned to face her with a serious look. “What do you want me to do to put today behind us?

To blacklist Willow from your company.”

You re being unreasonable.

“Then forget it” Jocelyn unbuckled her seat belt, ready to open the door and get out.

The locks clicked down, and Jocelyn couldn’t open the door.

“What are you up to?” Jocelyn asked blandly.

She looked at Melvin calmly.

She knew her request was absurd, but she was determined to be unreasonable.

As a daughter, was it wrong to feel for her dad?

Willow’s arrogant mug was bouncing around her head on repeat, and she was just ticked off.

Melvin’s voice was chilly. “Aren’t you scared of getting snatched up halfway home dressed like that?”

“None of your business.

“I don’t want to argue. Melvin eyed her. “Put your seat belt on.”

Jocelyn didn’t go against him and fastened her seat belt. Heading out late at night dressed like this was indeed risky.

The car hit the road again, pulling up to the garage under his building.

Once parked, the door could finally be opened.

Jocelyn got out without a word and started walking toward the exit

Melvin caught up quickly, grabbing her hand. What are you doing?”

“Catching a cab home.” Jocelyn was calm from start to finish, not giving off the vibes of making a scene.

The calmer she was, the more frustrated Melvin got

His grip on her wrist tightened. “Don’t push me.”

“Don’t push me,” Jocelyn countered, locking her eyes at him, like a pissed-off cat showing her claws.

Melvin narrowed his eyes. “What do you really want?”

“You can’t give me what I want, so what’s the point of asking?” Jocelyn tried to pry his hand off. “You know, if you hadn’t shown up today, i might’ve slept it off. But you just came to bother me, making us both miserable. It was totally pointless.”

Melvin stared at her, furrowing his brow. She returned his gaze, expressionless

Eventually, Melvin let go first.

“Thanks.” Jocelyn rubbed her somewhat sore wrist. “My dad said you had his back today, thanks for that. Also, it’s me who can’t let go, not you. So, sorry for putting you in a tough spot.”

Jocelyn was polite and modest, truly apologizing for her behavior.

“I was thinking of convincing my dad to quit and find a new job, but he refused. He said you were a good guy and paid well.” Jocelyn didn’t look at him anymore, each word peeling back layers of their

incompatibilities, laying it bare before her eyes.

Look at this: her father worked in the company of the man she liked, and that man paid her dad a salary higher than most, so her dad had to be all polite and respectful in front of her crush, even calling him “boss” deferentially.

And yet, this man stood proud, never seeing anything amiss.

Sure, nothing’s amiss, but that’s her dad

She admitted that she was being melodramatic.

But she’s only human, she has a heart, unable to not care about anything, to forgive everything, nor to be indifferent with anything.

“It’s okay. I’ll deal with it myself Jocelyn forced a smile at Melvin. “Sorry for the hassle.”

Having been holding his breath for a long time, Melvin was pushed to the edge by her sarcasm.

“Done talking?”

“Yeah.”

Melvin asked, “Do I carry you or hoist you back home?”

Jocelyn stared him down.

Melvin started rolling up his sleeves, looking like he was about to do something drastic.

Jocelyn took a step back. “What are you planning?”

“What do you think I am planning at this hour? Melvin swept her up in his arms and warned, “Don’t squirm!”

Afraid of flashing anyone, Jocelyn dared not move much.

After he carried her into the elevator, she tapped his shoulder. “Put me down!”

“Enough talk. Time to behave. Melvin looked down at her. “You’ve worn out my patience.”

Jocelyn tried to argue, but his cold threat came. “If you don’t stop, I’ll take you right here!”

Jocelyn cursed under her breath. “Beast.”

“Yet you still dare?

Jocelyn shut up under his threat.

The elevator doors opened, and Melvin, still holding her, scanned his face to unlock the door and kicked it open. After entering, he set her down on the couch.

Probably fearing that she’d make a run for it he sat down and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. He then whipped out his phone and made a call, putting it on speake…

Jocelyn glanced at his screen; he was calling Zephyr.

“Melvin, still up at this hour? Zephyr sounded sleepy.

Melvin said flatly, “From tomorrow on, if Willow needs to collaborate with the company, let them meet outside. She’s not to step foot in the company again

“Huh? Zephyr obviously sounded confused.

“Are you deaf?”

Zephyr’s voice perked up a lot. “You’re saying to keep Willow out of the company? Why?”

‘She’s just the face of the brand, no need for her to be trotting in and out of the office. Give the folks in branding a heads-up that

if they need her, they’ll have to seek her out themselves” Melvin, ever so considerate, added, “Got all that?”

Uh-huh, crystal clear, Zephyr replied, though totally bamboozled. “Can I ask what’s driving this decision?”

With that, he hung up the call.

He put down his phone and turned to the woman who had heard everything yet was pretending it was none of her business, “Happy now?”

Jocelyn’s gaze awkwardly shifted outside, her face angling away.

His hand pinched her chin with a bit of force, turning her face back towards him. His eyes were like an inky black night, not the least bit cheerful, and slightly ominous. “Say it.”

“Say what?” Jocelyn’s eyes darted around, not daring to meet his gaze.

Melvin, uncharacteristically, repeated himself, “Happy now?”
