Chapter 94 Making a Big Move
“We don’t know what happened, Mr. Luther…” The organizer of the event, who was initially full of confidence, was now as pale as a ghost. His voice was trembling. “I know nothing about what happened to Ms. Glen, Mr. Luther.”
Everyone knew what kind of relationship Liam had with Gwyneth. The two were in a contract marriage, and they were now divorced. None of them thought that something bad would happen to Gwyneth at the auction, and none expected Liam to be so concerned about it.
“Look into it and find out what happened.” Liam’s face had turned dark at that moment, and his words sounded like they were coming from the gaps in his teeth.
The employee who was in charge of the surveillance was pale then. He pressed a few buttons on the keyboard but did not know what to do. Ultimately, he looked toward the event organizer like he was about to cry. “S–Sir. W–What do I…”
“Expand the scope and extend the time of recording.” Before the organizer could say anything, Liam answered as if giving orders.
The person–in–charge of the auction stood aside with an ugly expression. It felt like Liam had stolen his position, but he did not have the guts to speak up.
The staff did not dare to show incompetence and quickly pulled out several surveillance camera videos. It was a pity that they could not detect any useful clues.
Liam gritted his teeth as he stared at the screen like a hawk, refusing to let go of any pixels. He grabbed his phone from his pocket and dialed the police.
At the same time, in a damp, small and fishy–smelling warehouse at a fishing port, Gwyneth sat on the ground with her hands tied against a thick wooden pillar in the middle of the room. Several men dressed in black surrounded the place. Some were standing, while others were sitting with indifferent or ferocious faces.
“How are things going? Did any of you inform Kingsley Leed already?” A man on the sofa asked languidly in a commanding tone. It was apparent that he was the leader of the group.
*Rest assured, boss. I’ve sent the message to Leed, but…” Someone hurriedly answered as if to take credit. There was a sneer in his voice when he said that. It sounded like he was smirking as he turned to look at Gwyneth. “But this woman is rather valuable. It would be a pity if we don’t reap some benefits from her before finishing her off.”
As soon as the man said that, two other people suddenly became interested in the conversation.
Most people in underground organizations feared the Leed family’s power. They would be slightly reserved even when something piqued their interest. However, the fact that these men suggested doing anything toward Gwyneth was enough to show that they did not see Kingsley as someone important.
“Although the dude is the young master of the Leed family, he’s still just a bastard, boss.”
“Yeah, boss. We just want a little more for our pay. It’ll be fine even when things come to light.”
“The two of them are right, boss. The Leed family won’t care about this little extra payment their illegitimate child cost them.”
The men took turns persuading themselves, and their tone gradually became excited as they looked at each other. In the end, there was a flicker of light in their leader’s eyes. They were so busy discussing that they forgot to check on Gwyneth..
Gwyneth had woken up shortly after being brought into the small warehouse. However, she did not dare to open her eyes immediately. She relied on the sound and smell around her to perceive everything as much as possible. Her mind calmed down after confirming that
she had been kidnapped and was near the sea.
‘Kingsley Leed…”
Gwyneth was trying to feel the tightness of the ropes holding her hands back when the name sounded in her ears. She silently. remembered the name.
On the other hand, after Liam called the police, action was taken immediately. Kidnapping was not a trivial matter. Since the person who was kidnapped and the one who made the report were people of status, the police felt another type of pressure.
After obtaining the official surveillance video, the police department traced the route to the cabins near the port.
Kingsley was not with the kidnappers, but he was only a few warehouses away from where Gwyneth was held hostage. He had heard the
sound of the police car siren way earlier than the kidnappers did.
As the sound lingered. Kingsley immediately panicked and hurriedly grabbed his phone to send a text. The context of the text was simple: [ The police are here. Act quickly and finish the job as planned.]
Coincidentally, the kidnappers had just finished talking about extortion when they received Kingsley’s message. A few of them smiled at each other with a hint of excitement behind their eyes.
