Chapter 76 In the Same Boat
Upon hearing that director’s words, Gwyneth couldn’t help but stifle a laugh. She thought to herself, “No right to interfere? Well, isn’t that amusing.”
Meanwhile. Wesley cast a peculiar gaze at the middle–aged individuals before him. These people were the shareholders as well as directors of Glen Corporation. Yet, in the presence of money, they could spout any nonsense.
“Really? Well if that’s what you say, then I feel much better.” Gwyneth said, pointing her finger at the briefcase on the table. Her eyes betrayed a hint of cunning, but the people in the room paid her no attention. She continued, “I was actually considering having my assistant return the funds if any of you had objections.”
“Oh no, that won’t do!” Gaspard interrupted Gwyneth this time.
Gwyneth raised an eyebrow and looked at her father, with whom she hadn’t communicated in days, wondering what “advice” he had for her.
“Ms. Glen…”
Gwyneth’s smile deepened at Gaspard’s address. She lifted her chin slightly, gesturing for him to continue.
“These funds have already been withdrawn at this point. If we interfere now, both sides‘ accounts will become complicated,” Gaspard explained.
“That’s right, Ms. Glen. You’re doing this to ease the financial strain on Glen Corporation. How could we not be considerate?” another
shareholder chimed in.
As they spoke, several shareholders started expressing their opinions, chattering away. It became clear that they didn’t want Wesley to
bring the money back to AMC Group.
Gwyneth knew all too well what was going through their minds. If she went all in on the Glacier Lake project investment, the funds from AMC Group would be mixed in. If she followed their game plan, she would undoubtedly suffer heavy losses. Ultimately, that money would
end up in their hands.
Gwyneth looked into the eyes of these directors and sensed a glimmer of greed. Her smile gradually faded away, replaced by a growing sense of disdain. What was once merely detestable and laughable now evoked a wave of disgust within her. She couldn’t help but reflect,‘ How has my mother’s company, painstakingly built from scratch, been reduced to this under Gaspard Glen’s influence?”
In the days that followed, the employees of Glen Corporation couldn’t help but notice a new addition by their CEO’s side: Wanda, a young secretary. She seemed inseparable from Gwyneth, arriving and leaving work together, which sparked envy and speculation about her identity and background. The prevailing belief was that this mysterious secretary was on a fast track to success. After all, being in such close proximity to the CEO carried significant weight and influence.
However, just as this perception began to solidify, something unexpected transpired, catching everyone off guard.
During a small meeting. Gwyneth scolded Wanda for running out of ink in her marker. It happened right then and there, in front of many people, as Gwyneth delivered a stern reprimand.
“If you can’t even handle something as simple as this, how can you be my secretary?” Gwyneth’s words carried an unusually harsh tone as she glared at Wanda.
The employees held their breath, witnessing the CEO lose her lemper for the first time.
Gwyneth continued. “Once the meeting is over, go to the marketing department and retrieve a file, then head outside to handle sales.”
The sudden decision placed on Wanda sent a shiver down the spines of those present. Judy Glen, sitting in the room, played with a pen. She glanced at Wanda, who had lowered her head and remained silent, and couldn’t help but smirk.
Judy’s mind raced back to the conflict she had with Wanda a few days prior. ‘Karma certainly works fast,‘ she gloated in her heart. ‘Now that Gwyneth has cut ties with Wanda, perhaps I can make use of her?”
Judy’s thoughts stirred with a hint of excitement. She fell compelled to seize this rare opportunity that had presented itself.
After a while, the meeting concluded, and everyone dispersed.
Taking advantage of the moment when no one was paying attention, Judy called Wanda over to a secluded corner of the staircase.
“Your name is Wanda, right? Do you remember me?”
“I remember. You’re Judy Glen, one of our managers.” Wanda’s eyes were slightly teary, still affected by the mistreatment in the meeting.
“Well Wanda, how can you still address me as a manager? You should know my current position very well.” Judy couldn’t help but grit her teeth as she spoke, recalling Gwyneth’s attitude that day. She had never been treated that way before in her life.
Wanda didn’t reply, simply nodding her head and preparing to leave.
“Hey, don’t go!” Judy acted swiftly, grasping Wanda’s wrist. She briefly closed her eyes, as if gathering her determination. “Wanda, what happened last time was my fault. I was in a bad mood, and I hope you didn’t take it personally.”
Perplexed, Wanda blinked and looked at Judy, clearly taken aback.
Judy pressed on. “Well, regardless, we’re in the same boat now. We’re both suppressed by Gwyneth. Don’t you agree?”
