Chapter 72 Decisions Swayed by One Woman
Liam furrowed his eyebrows slightly upon hearing his subordinate’s words, a sharp glint appearing in his eyes. ‘Seems like I’m not the only one interested in that fire. With that in mind, he asked, “Can we retrieve it again?”
The response he received was a simple, “I need some time.”
Liam’s subordinates were always efficient and decisive, much like their employer. They possessed a clear understanding of their capabilities and would never mindlessly undertake a task solely for recognition..
Liam spoke softly. “Do your best.” After receiving an affirmative response on the other end of the phone, he ended the call.
‘Not only has the online information disappeared, but the contents of my email have also vanished,‘ Liam thought, a bitter laugh escaping
his lips. “I suppose there are plenty of skilled individuals out there.”
Without hesitation, Liam slightly bent down and opened one side of the drawer beneath his desk. He retrieved a few sheets of paper, the very records he had previously uncovered. He had printed them out beforehand, anticipating a situation just like this. The remaining records which he hadn’t had a chance to print had been thoroughly wiped clean.
Placing the incomplete printed records on his desk, Liam rested his chin on his hands, sinking into silence. Gwyneth’s face and the scar around her waist flashed in his mind. At that moment, he was certain that Gwyneth’s scar was the result of a burn. However, he couldn’t comprehend why she had suddenly behaved strangely during the day.
The next day, inside Luther Corporation’s conference room, the spacious room was already filled with people as Liam slowly walked in, accompanied by Larry.
As the secretary, Elizabeth had to participate in this meeting. Recording meeting minutes was one of her responsibilities, so she had arrived early.
Before the meeting commenced, Liam was well aware that the primary focus would be the Glacier Lake project. He had withdrawn the investment model proposed by the marketing department, and this meeting was convened to discuss and make decisions based on an
alternative investment model he had proposed–the construction material supply model.
Liam leaned back in his chair, his gaze sweeping around the room. His eyes had a sharpness akin to a knife, causing anyone who met his gaze to instinctively lower their head.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I believe you are all aware of the topic of discussion for this meeting. Let’s begin now,” Liam finally broke the silence, allowing a collective sigh of relief from the attendees. It was also Elizabeth’s first–time witnessing Liam in a meeting, and her heart
brimmed with excitement.
When it came to handling business affairs and dealing with Gwyneth, Liam displayed a completely different side. In the realm of business. he was the intimidating CEO of Luther Corporation, striking fear into the hearts of others. But when it came to Gwyneth, it was hard to
believe that he was the same CEO of Luther Corporation.
Upon hearing Liam speak first, the attendees exchanged glances with one another. Eventually, only one person raised their hand.
Liam lifted his head slightly to regard the individual who had raised their hand. A faint smile played at the corners of his mouth, though it did not reach his eyes.
“Porter, what thoughts do you have?” he asked.
As Porter Jackman stood up, those around him couldn’t help but gasp. However, for the most part, they were more interested in the
spectacle unfolding before them. After all, Porter’s position as a manager did not accurately reflect his true status within Luther Corporation. Despite his title sounding like that of a junior employee, he was, in fact, the son of Michael Jackman, a director within the
company.
Among the shareholders of Luther Corporation, aside from the Luther family, who held the majority stake, the Jackman family held significant influence. Therefore, Porter’s position within Luther Corporation carried considerable weight.
“Mr. Luther, I believe it is essential to discuss this matter with everyone, regardless of the situation, Porter stated, his tone unsettling Liam. The manner in which Porter spoke seemed to position himself as Liam’s superior, which did not sit well with him.
“You bring up an interesting point, but aren’t we currently discussing it with everyone present?” Liam countered.
Porter found himself faced with his own question redirected back at him. He clenched his fist beneath the table. Initially, when Luther
Corporation had intended to invest in Glacier Lake, he had been thrilled. After all, he was responsible for overseeing the group’s land auction projects. Earning a commission from such an investment would have amounted to a substantial sum. However, just a few days later, the original investment model was abruptly revoked, replaced by a construction material supply model. This sudden change felt as though someone had snatched away a treasure chest from his grasp. How could he possibly accept that?
“Mr. Luther, as the CEO of this corporation, you can’t let your decisions be swayed by just one woman at the expense of your employees, don’t you think so?” Porter blurted out, his words lacking careful consideration or discretion. Following his statement, he fixed a deliberately provocative gaze on Liam.
Liam raised an eyebrow, supporting his cheek with his finger as a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. “Is that so, Porter? Has your job scope expanded to the point where it now includes monitoring my personal affairs as well?” he countered.
