Chapter 43 Different Sense of Time
Gwyneth stared at the hideous scar in the mirror, lost in thought. It had been ages since she had laken a close look at it. The scar ran horizontally across her abdomen, starting from the front and stretching toward her side, even reaching further toward her back.
Gwyneth pursed her lips and delicately traced her fingertips along the scar. It no longer elicited any pain, but the fact that she had been young when her skin was burned meant that the nerves beneath the scar had suffered damage. As a result, whenever her scar was touched, she would experience a peculiar sensation–a constant reminder that her nerves had not yet fully recovered.
Gwyneth vividly remembered the moments of her treatment back then, when she was in a semi–conscious state, hearing the elderly doctor with graying hair speak slowly. ‘It will likely take many years for the texture of her skin and the nerves inside to fully heal‘ he had
said.
Just a little over a decade had passed since then, so it made sense that Gwyneth still experienced peculiar sensations from her scar. However, her thoughts quickly shifted to her recent phone conversation with Liam. She hesitated briefly before reaching for her phone, feeling a sense of duty as a medical professional that prompted her to return the call.
Liam was surprised when Gwyneth’s call came through. He was in a conference room and promptly paused the meeting, stepping outside to take the call.
“Honey?” he answered the call.
Gwyneth rolled her eyes at the endearing term she heard through the phone. However, she didn’t feel like wasting any more time on him. It would be like talking to a wall–pointless to even bother telling him about it.
Gwyneth spoke up. “I’ve been thinking about what you said about scars. The truth is, whether a scar fades or not can vary from person to
person.”
“What do you mean?” Liam couldn’t help but be intrigued.
“Simply put,” Gwyneth explained, lightly brushing her side as she spoke, “some individuals‘ skin has the ability to undergo natural self-
repair and gradually restore its pigment over time.”
She added, “On the other hand, there are cases where individuals sustain severe injuries, and even after several years have passed, their
scars only show minimal, if any, fading.”
In fact, before Gwyneth’s phone call, Liam’s mind was clear. However, her explanation left him feeling puzzled. He had initially believed he was getting closer to the truth, but as soon as the call ended, everything reverted back to square one, leaving him with a sense of
frustration and confusion.
Meanwhile, Gwyneth had instructed Wesley to closely monitor Gaspard for several days, and the daily reports were remarkably consistent.
“Doesn’t he have any intention of quitting?” Gwyneth gritted her teeth as she examined the stolen materials being traded on the black market and the funds involved.
“Boss, once someone has had a taste of the spoils, it’s hard for them to quit, especially when there are no costs involved,” Wesley replied. his expression grim.
Initially, Gaspard’s illegal trade of classified information didn’t have significant consequences. However, when confidential information became public knowledge, its value rapidly declined. This, in turn, caused Glen Corporation’s stock to plummet within a few days. resulting in substantial losses.
Closing the file, Gwyneth swiveled her chair, facing a different direction, and gazed out of the floor–to–ceiling window. Speaking softly, she remarked. “It seems the storm is coming.” Her eyes remained calm, but her fingers clutching the file turned white.
Sure enough, the following day, Gwyneth received an email from Glen Corporation. With a slight smirk on her lips, she read the message.” The shareholders‘ meeting is today. This will be my first meeting with them face to face.”
In the afternoon, Gwyneth arrived at Glen Corporation, with Wesley closely following behind.
Having visited the company numerous times before, it was an entirely different experience for Gwyneth now as she took her first steps. inside as the company’s CEO. Not much had changed in terms of the overall decor, reminding her of her late mother and causing her eyes. to well up slightly. However, she swiftly regained her composure, fueled by a renewed sense of determination, and confidently moved forward.
Inside the largest conference room of Glen Corporation, when Gwyneth entered, all the shareholders had already gathered. Gwyneth was intentionally ten minutes lale, arriving later than the scheduled time.
As Gwyneth settled into her seat, a voice unexpectedly broke the silence, ‘Ms. Glen, is it possible that your sense of time differs from ours? ⚫Although it was hard to gauge the speaker’s emotions, the words came across more as an assertion than a question.
Upon hearing this, Gwyneth burst into a radiant and captivating laugh, her smile enchanting everyone in the room.
“Well Mr. Quail it seems you possess quite the sense of humor,” she replied.
Elliott Quail, the one who had just spoken, was taken aback when Gwyneth addressed him directly by his surname.
The shareholders present immediately grasped the implications of her words. Their new CEO had already conducted thorough
investigations into each person’s background. In fact, these directors were not unfamiliar with Gwyneth herself, as she happened to be the daughter of the former CEO.
However, her transition into this new role and position left them uneasy. They couldn’t shake off the discomfort of being inexplicably overshadowed by a young woman who still had much to learn, with no means to reclaim their dominance.
“Good day, esteemed board members. Although this is our first official meeting. I think we can forgo the formal introductions,” Gwyneth declared, standing up from her seat with her hands lightly resting on the table. A subtle smile danced on her lips as her gaze swept across
the room.
