The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 771

There is a universal truth no one can escape from: every action has its consequences. Zach would find that out soon, and Madelyn was waiting for that day.

Rosario’s closest friend was Margaret. After Rosario’s unexpected passing, which the police believed was an accident, Margaret took care of all the arrangements. She organized a quiet funeral and buried Rosario in a peaceful spot that Rosario had chosen. Among Rosario’s belongings, Margaret discovered hair ties for a young girl and a pink princess dress. Recognizing them, she realized they must have been Madelyn’s from when she was little and stored them safely in a bag.

At SereneCare Hospital, Kai sat in his office with his head down, rubbing the bridge of his nose. He had been poring over this report all night.

‘So I got it wrong the whole time?

Madelyn is actually Alicia’s daughter and isn’t related to Hayson at all. Darn it! How’d I miss that? What the hell have I been doing all these years?’

“Dr. Stewart.” Someone knocked at the door.

Looking up, Kai said, “Come in.”

“Dr. Stewart, Ms. Lana Paine is here. She didn’t schedule an appointment but wants to chat with you.”

Kai replied, “I’m swamped right now. Tell her I’m not in.” Before the assistant could reply, there was a distinct click-clack of heels approaching.

“You probably wouldn’t have time on your schedule for me, so I decided to drop by in person,” Lana chimed in from the doorway. Kai glanced at the assistant, clearly not thrilled. “Step outside.”

“Sure thing, Dr. Stewart,” the assistant replied as they exited. Lana had returned home three months ago. They had barely seen each other since then, but ultimately, Lana gave in and came to see him. She was shocked to see him so agitated. His bloodshot eyes and exhausted face showed it all.

Kai locked the documents into a drawer. Seeing Lana, whom he had not encountered in three years, he noticed how her time abroad had lent her an added elegance. Her long hair and flowing dress always brought him a sense of peace.

“You came by earlier than I expected,” Kai said. Mustering courage, Lana looked up to meet his eyes. “Is it true that you’ll only help him if I sleep with you?”

Kai stood up and approached Lana. As he gently lifted her chin, a sly smile appeared on his face, but his eyes remained cold and distant.

“I’m glad you’re finally seeing things clearly. If Andrew’s condition means he’s not there for you, remember that I can provide everything he can and more. Don’t you want to make the most of your life?”

Lana pulled away. “If you want to do it, do it now. Let’s skip the games.”

Kai answered, “Not today. When I need you, I’ll call.” He grabbed his jacket from the chair and walked toward the door.

She hurriedly tried to keep up. “Kai, he doesn’t have much time left. Can you please help him? I’m begging you.”

He ignored her and entered the elevator. As the doors began to close, Lana, not thinking of her safety, dashed in. Kai quickly pulled her inside. Because of her high heels, she lost her balance and leaned into him, hands pressed against his chest.

“Are you trying to get yourself hurt?” he asked.
