Chapter 67
At eleven o’clock, they arrived at Bates family.
As soon as Kendric got out of the car, Gavin Bates, who had been standing
at the door, saw him. He approached, bypassing Celeste.
“Kendric, you’re finally here!”
Kendric held Celeste’s hand and greeted him with a slight nod.
They walked inside, and bumped into Ophelia Bates. When she saw Kendric
and Celeste’s holding hands, she was about to go mad with jealousy!
“Ken, Celeste, welcome!”
“Where’s your father?”
Ophelia softly pointed upstairs. “They’re upstairs.”
Kendric intended to usher Celeste upstairs, but she suddenly pulled apart
their intertwined hands.
Celeste said, “you go first. I want to have a chat with Ophelia.”
“Okay, come find me later.”
As Kendric ascended the stairs, Ophelia’s gentle disguise gradually collapsed.
Back when she and Celeste lived in Melville family, she never missed an opportunity to taunt Celeste. Her jibes and bullies to Celeste were sometimes blatant or sometimes covert.
Ophelia gave Celeste a head–to–toe sizing up, her gaze dripping with contempt.
Chapter 67
“What shabby dress you’re wearing! You’re truly embarrass Ken.”
Celeste wore just a diamond necklace today, and she didn’t bother with any
earrings.
Ophelia, on the other hand, was adorned in an all–white chiffon dress,
accentuated by a fox fur shawl.
But what caught Celeste’s eye was the gemstone necklace hanging around Ophelia neck–it looked familiar.
“I remember you swore you’d never come back once you moved out from Ken’s home? Why did you shamelessly come back now?”
Celeste corrected her, “it was Kendric who invited me back.”
Ophelia ground her teeth. “What’s there to be smug about? You’ll still be
driven out one day!”
Celeste smirked, “even if I move out, you won’t be moving in, that’s for
sure.”
Ophelia couldn’t help but feel a mix of envy and resentment towards
Celeste.
Celeste could effortlessly gain her dreaming position as Kendric’s fiancée,
while she had to please Madelyn to move in Melville family.
Ophelia was so furious that her face turned beet red. “Let’s wait and see.”
Celeste brushed past her and headed upstairs.
On the second floor.
Kendric was sitting to the left of Mr. Caden Bates. Celeste took a seat next to

Kendric.
Before long, everyone had arrived, and Gavin gave a brief introduction of
everyone.
When it came to Celeste, he hesitated for a moment and simply referred to
her as “Kendric’s girlfriend.”
The way he said “girlfriend” was dripping with contempt.
“Wife.”
Kendric stared at Gavin, “she’s my wife. Don’t make that mistake again.”
After a brief appearance on the upper floor, Celeste left Kendric and made
her way downstairs alone.
She stood in the hall for a moment before a lady approached her.
“Are you looking for Madelyn?”
Celeste shook her head, “no, I’m not.”
The lady paid no heed to her refusal and yanked her away.
Word of Madelyn’s imminent departure started to circulate. Some
busybodies couldn’t resist prying, “Madelyn, we’ve heard you’re leaving the city
soon?”
Madelyn was intensely concerned about face–saving, and admitting this
publicly would be like a public slap in the face.
“Of course not, how could that be” She hastily denied it, which made it
more obvious that she was lying. “Just a few days ago, Ken gifted me this bracelet. He respected me much and how could he send me away.”
She displayed the bracelet on her wrist.
Celeste’s gaze landed on the gemstone bracelet on her wrist.
It’s a birthday gift from Kendric two years ago, for Celeste, rather than
Madelyn.
It was supposed to be stored in Celeste’s safe.
She had been away for only a few days, and Madelyn had already
commandeered her safe.
“You took it from my safe?”
Madelyn hadn’t expected Celeste’s abrupt arrival, and her expression
underwent a noticeable change.
next.
“Nonsense! It’s a gift from Ken!” she denied.
“Is that so?”
The onlookers were all in high spirits, excited to see what would happen
“Well, maybe I was mistaken.” Celeste mumbled to herself, “but that
bracelet of yours looks exactly like the one in
my safe.”
Madelyn wore an awkward expression on her face. She hurriedly made an
excuse and left the crowd.
After she left, Celeste immediately dialed maid Janney’s number.
“Janney, open the safe in my bedroom now, check if my gemstone bracelet
is still there.”
Janney went upstairs with the phone, followed Celeste’s instructions, and

checked the safe. “It’s not in there.”
Then, she added in a hushed tone, “it seems… something else is missing
too.” Janney was in charge of regularly tidying up Celeste’s room and knew
more about her belongings than Celeste herself.
“The one Mr. Melville bought you, the diamond–studded bracelet, what was
the brand… it’s gone.” Janney couldn’t quite remember the name.
“I got it.”
Kendric often went on business trips, and every time, he’d bring back gifts
for her. Celeste had stashed all the jewelries in the safe. She seldom wore them.
A cold smile crept across her face. It turned out that half of the jewelries in
her safe were stolen away!
Recalling the necklace she had just seen on Ophelia’s neck, Celeste
suspected it coming from her safe, too.
theft.
They took her jewelries without her consent. Their action amounted to
Downstairs, Kásh reported to Madelyn in a hushed voice, “ma’am, Celeste
said… that you and Miss Bates need to return the jewelries you stole, or else…”
The word “stole” hit Madelyn ‘s nerve.
“Or else what?!”
“Or else… she’ll call the police.”
Madelyn raised an eyebrow, “all of her jewelries were bought by Ken. How

dare she announce them hers?“.
But Madelyn still carried a hint of unease, “what if she make a scene here
now?”
She was genuinely concerned that Celeste might do something harmful to
Melville’s name right here, so she came to Celeste with Ophelia.
Celeste wasn’t afraid of a showdown. Her necklace was still on Ophelia’s
neck, making it a clear–cut case of theft.
She found a quiet spot and waited calmly for Madelyn and Ophelia.
