Chapter 64
Celeste pushed the door open and saw Kendric making a phone call in the study. He was wearing a loose–fitting navy–blue pajama. It seemed like he
appeared to have lost some weight.
While he was on the phone, Kendric turned his head towards the door.
When he saw it was Celeste, he suddenly paused.
“I’ll call you back later,” he promptly hung up the phone.
“Why did you come?”
Celeste sized him up. He seemed quite well. Except for the dark circles
under his eyes, everything appeared normal.
She asked, “Aren’t you feeling unwell?”
Kendric seemed a little annoyed, “who told you that?”
“Alright, you’re energetic enough to get mad, so I guess you’re not really
sick.”
Kendric quietly pulled his sleeve down, as if hiding something. He shifted
his gaze away from her, “I’m perfectly fine.”
Celeste nodded, “I can tell. Okay, my task is done. I’m leaving then.”
As she turned to leave, Kendric took a step forward and hesitated, “you…”
“Yes?”
“Ahem, do you have another reason for coming here?” He pressed his lips together and raised his chin.
Celeste felt a bit puzzled, “no.”

Kendric seemed depressed and then sighed, “forget it.”
“Huh?”
She found it a bit bewildering, “don’t put on that expression. You’re making
it seem like I did something to upset you.”
Kendric remained silent, and after a moment of contemplation, Celeste.
suddenly realized.
Could he possibly think she’s here to apologize? For what happened that
night?
Celeste was left speechless.
She didn’t even bother coming in. She propped herself against the
doorframe, cocked her head, and drawled lazily, “you seem fine, so there’s no
need I stay here.”
“Oh, and,” she cast a glance at him, “take good care of yourself. You’re not a
child.”
“Are you worried about me?”
Celeste chuckled lightly, “don’t flatter yourself. If it weren’t for Cade telling me that you were seriously ill, I wouldn’t have bothered to come.”
Kendric’s hands unconsciously clenched into fists.
He stared at Celeste intently, as if he was trying to figure out whether her words were true.
Finally in a low, hoarse voice, he said, “you can go.”
Celeste was in a pretty good mood. She even flashed him a smile,
Chapter 64
“goodbye.”
This “goodbye” was like a dagger, deeply piercing Kendric’s heart.
He stood there alone, his head turning more and more dizzying.
As soon as Celeste turned to leave, she heard a sudden muffled thud from
behind. It sounded like something heavy had fallen.
The study’s carpet was thick, yet the thud was loud.
Celeste curiously glanced back.
The man who had been standing by the window a moment ago was now
sprawled lifelessly on the ground.
Instantly, her pupils shrank, her heart thumping wildly, a sudden rush of
unease taking over.
She dashed over and crouched down.
Only then did she notice his slightly flushed cheeks and the pale lips.
She reached out and touched his forehead, which was covered in a thin
layer of sweat, and it felt hot.
“Damn, why don’t you tell me you’re sick!”
His eyes were tightly shut, and he remained unresponsive no matter how she scolded.
Celeste called for help and tried to rouse him.
Cade heard the commotion and came up the stairs. He was strong and carried Kendric to the bed. Then, he crouched down to take off Kendric shoes.
Celeste removed his coat, and in that moment, she could hardly believe her
eyes. Kendric’s body was covered in a mass of rashes.
He had broken out in rashes, and none of these idiots thought to take him
to the hospital?
Cade shifted his gaze away and explained helplessly, “he refuses to go to the
hospital, and we have no way to force him.”
be?”
Celeste couldn’t comprehend their way of thinking. “So you just let him
“We were not you! We dare not to contradict him!”
Celeste sighed, “sometimes I wonder if you all are genuinely loyal or just blindly obedient.”
The driver soon pulled up the car in the yard, ready to send Kendric to hospital.
Kendric had regained some consciousness, but his eyes were still somewhat
dazed.
The room was packed with people, but his gaze cut through the crowd, landing squarely on Celeste. He was staring at her fixedly, teetering between consciousness and unconsciousness.
Celeste couldn’t take his burning gaze and quickly made up an excuse to step out. Just as she turned to leave, a firm grip seized her wrist. Even though he hadn’t fully awakened, his grasp was surprisingly strong.
Celeste turned back to him. Her once resolute heart felt like it was eroding, slowly eaten away from the inside.
Chapter
When Kendric woke up again, it was already three in the afternoon. He opened his eyes and found Celeste right beside him.
His eyes that previously filled with despair, gradually kindled with life
when he saw her.
He croaked, “you’re still here?” Before he fainted, he had caught a glimpse
of her walking out….
Celeste cupped her head with one hand, raised an eyebrow, “look at your
grip on my wrist. Where do you think I could go?”
Only now did Kendric realize he was in a hospital. He turned his head to
see that he had been clasping Celeste’s wrist.
“Could you release your grip now?”
Kendric not only didn’t let go, but he also took the opportunity to pull her closer. “Help me sit up.”
He had just recovered from a fever, and he was feeling weak. He struggled to sit up, “I need some water.”
Celeste poured him a glass of water, “is there anything else you need? I can go get your assistant to fetch it for you.”
Kendric held the cup. He swallowed the words “I need you.”
Seeing that he was awake and seemingly recovering, Celeste thought it’s time to leave. But right as she left the room, she collided with a nurse.
The nurse instantly grabbed her arm, “hey, you’re patient’s family? Don’t

hurry to leave.”
Celeste pointed at herself, confused. “Me? No, I’m not…‘”
The nurse didn’t give her a chance to refuse and pulled her back inside.
The nurse took Kendric’s temperature, “the temperature is still a bit high.
We’ve already tried antipyretic medication, and we can’t use it again so soon.
Seem like we should take physical cooling method.”
“Use a damp towel to wipe down the specific areas, like the chest, wrists,
and forehead.”
Saying this, the nurse handed Celeste a clean towel. “Here you go.”
Celeste hesitated and then pointed outside. “His assistant is out there. I’ll go get them to help.”
The nurse muttered, “there’s no one outside.”
Celeste peered into the corridor and saw that it was completely empty. Normally, there was an aide by Kendric’s side around the clock, even in the dead of night when he was working. He’s got a whole team of assistants, after all.
But now it seemed like they all suddenly vanished.
It wasn’t intentional? Impossible!
