Chapter 55
The woman who came downstairs was pregnant, donning a loose–fitting
nightgown. Celeste greeted her with a polite nod and a smile.
The pregnant woman behaved enthusiastic, “hello, who are you?”
a
Celeste introduced herself, “hi, I’m Celeste Alinsky, painter and designer. I’m here today to discuss some sketches with Mrs. Brown.”
“I’m Ellie. You just said sketches? Can I take a look?”
“Of course,” Celeste displayed her design drawings on the computer screen.
Ellie was impressed and praised, “they are beautiful. It looks like you’re a talented designer. I’d love to see more of your work.”
“If you’re interested, feel free to visit my studio anytime. We have plenty of design pieces on display there.”
“Really? Well, I might have to wait for a while. Mrs. Jones told me women. shouldn’t leave their homes during pregnancy.”
It’s the first time Celeste heard such a weird thing.
“Is Mrs. Brown your mother–in–law?”
Ellie nodded, and Celeste added, “then who is Mrs. Jones?”
Ellie checked the time, “Mrs. Jones is Mrs. Jones. She should be here soon.”
Just as she finished speaking, Mrs. Brown walked in, accompanied by a middle–aged woman. Mrs. Jones was dressed in a vintage ankle–length dress with a high collar and long sleeves. God, she looked totally like she’s from the 19th century.
Chapter 55
At first glance, Celeste dislike this staid Mrs. Jones, but she didn’t behave it
on the face.
Mrs. Jones, on the other hand, observed her closely, making Celeste feel
quite displeased.
“Celeste, it happens to be the time for Mrs. Jones to give the class today.
Would you like to listen?”
The class? Celeste was about to decline but was discreetly nudged by Ellie.
She whispered, “you can come join the class. Mrs. Jones is quite
knowledgeable.”
Although Celeste wasn’t very interested, it seemed Mrs. Brown wasn’t ready
to sign the contract, so she agreed, “alright.”
In the study, three chairs were set up before Mrs. Jones. Ellie took her seat
first. She cautiously sat on the chair, with her hands folded on her lap.
Celeste sat on the chair with her arms crossed, staring at Mrs. Jones.
Mrs. Jones began her class, “women should be devoted to their children and
be submissive to husbands.”
Celeste let out a cold sneer. She thought if Mrs. Jones dared to deliver such a speech in public, she would definitely be beaten to death on the street.
She couldn’t believe it when hearing such bullshits in modern times. Celeste turned to observe Ellie and Mrs. Brown, who, however, behaved accustomed to
- it.
Celeste couldn’t bear it anymore. “Mrs. Jones, excuse me for my abrupt question, but may I ask how old are you?”
Chapterss
Mrs. Jones was clearly displeased that her speech was interrupted. “Yes,
Miss Alinsky, I’m 42.”
Celeste widened her eyes in shock, “42! I thought you were 442, otherwise.
how could you blurt out such fusty crap!”
Mrs. Jones wasn’t fuming. Instead, she held her head high with a sense of
pride and strolled over to Celeste. She meticulously observed her for a while,
“Miss Alinsky, it seems you’re not quite on board with my viewpoint, are you? A
good wife is supposed to share her husband’s burdens and manage the
household. Have you fallen short in these aspects? I’ve heard you’re from the
countryside, and that could explain it. With all due respect, if you don’t learn.
proper etiquette and embrace the responsibilities of a wife, you might easily
lose your husband’s affection and end up deserted.”
to was on the veri
of gagging.
She suddenly couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if Mrs. Jones
were to meet Kendric.
Plus, she was sure that the arrival of Mrs. Jones today had no way to be a mere coincidence. Mrs. Brown was always hanging around Madelyn, and they had surely conspired together.
Celeste leaped up from her chair and grasped Mrs. Jones‘ hand, feigning a quiver in her voice. “Mrs. Jones, is what you’re saying really true? I’m so frightened. Could my fiancé truly desert me?”
Mrs. Jones wore a smug grin. “No need to worry. You can attend my etiquette class. As long as you’re a diligent student, your demeanor will see a significant transformation in no time.”
Chapter–56
“Excellent! When can we begin our lessons? Sooner is definitely better,
right?” Celeste clung to Mrs. Jones‘ hand. “In that case, please come to my home
directly tomorrow. I truly need your guidance.”
Mrs. Brown was quietly thrilled to see Celeste so genuinely interested,
without any signs of resistance.
After Mrs. Jones departed, Mrs. Brown was all set to sign the contract, but
Celeste closed her laptop.
“Sorry, Mrs. Brown, I just remembered there are some details in the
contract that need tweaking. I’ll bring it over next time when it’s corrected.”
She rose from the chair, “oh, by the way, the class today is really
enlightening. I’ll make sure Mrs. Quinn properly thanks you.”
Mrs. Brown wore a joyful expression on her face.
Before Celeste left, she glanced at a wedding photo hanging in the hallway. The bride in the picture had an elegant figure and striking looks. She discreetly
snapped a photo of it with her phone.
Celeste didn’t let off the gas pedal until that vile place. It was only then that she released a sigh of relief.
She pulled over to the roadside and called up Sienna to let her know the contract hadn’t gone through.
Sienna didn’t seem upset. “It’s no big deal.”
Celeste assured her, “I’ll transfer the earnest money we lost to you.”
“And, Sienna, I’m going to send you two photos. Take a look and see if you
know this girl.”
The photos were promptly sent over, and Sienna, “what the hell! Why did
Ellie Grayson change so much?”
“You know her?
*I sure do. We were high school classmates, but we lost contact after we
went to different colleges.”
“Damn, Ellie used to be drop–dead gorgeous, the cheerleader!”
“You know where her parents are?”
Sienna pondered, “her mom died years before, and her dad… I think he got
remarried.”
That could explain everything. Ellie’s family probably didn’t care her too much. Sienna suddenly recalled, “she has a younger brother, and they’re quite close. He should be in college in another city now.”
“I’ll send a message to you shortly. You can forward it to her brother. Also, attach those two photos I just sent you.” Celeste said.
Sienna didn’t quite get what she meant but she still quickly agreed, “sure, send it over.”
Celeste texted down the details she had witnessed at Brown family and sent it to Sienna.
Sienna, who was sipping water at the moment, nearly choked when she read it. “Geez, Brown family can be so wicked?”
“I saw it with my own eyes.”
“Those jerks! I’ll call her brother right now,” Sienna fumed.
