Celeste walked towards the dock, completely caught off guard that Kendric had tracked her down here. She even started to wonder if he had bugged her phone somehow, how else could he be so sure she’d be hiding on this island?
Thankfully, his men was all still on the island, and they hadn’t discover her
yet. Taking a boat out might still be an option.
When Cade told Kendric that Celeste was on the island, he was oddly
composed.
“I already know.”
“So, what’s our move now?” Cade ventured.
Kendric shook his head, staring out at the tranquil lake. “She’s not on the
island now.”
“But they saw her there just now.”
Kendric shot him a disdainful glance. “Your men have already alerted her to
our arrival.”
Cade fell silent, realizing his boss was right.
“Go check all the boats on the lake.”
Cade quickly got the message and led his men to the dock.
On the lake, a boat was leisurely making its way toward the opposite shore.
A person was huddled in a corner of the deck.

She clenched the railing tightly and moaned in sickness with each jolt of the

what was happening. They gathered by the railings to take a look around.
Celeste slowly opened her eyes. She struggled to suppress down the feeling
of queasiness.
The captain stepped out from the control room, trying to keep everyone calm. “Please stay quiet and listen up!”
“We got short notice, the dock’s under temporary control. Boats are having to dock one by one, so the speed will slow down, and we’ll need to stay here for
a while.”
The tourists expressed their dissatisfaction, “what? You didn’t mention anything about the dock being controlled before we boarded.”
The captain patiently explained, “sometimes, when there are too many boats trying to dock, they temporarily control the dock. It’s like traffic on the roads. You need to regulate it when there’s congestion.”
Celeste nervously bit her lip, feeling a chill in her heart.
To avoid spoiling the tourists‘ enjoyment, the captain agreed to provide a few small lifeboats for free, allowing them to paddle around on the lake. Finally, the tourists were satisfied, and they disembarked from boat in small groups.
Soon, there was only Celeste left on the boat. She sat in her seat. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead, and a breeze from the lake blew them away.

Amidst the surrounding commotion, the sound of leather shoes hitting on the deck became particularly distinct. Step by step, the rhythmic sounds grew
nearer.
Celeste opened her eyes and forced a helpless smile. Even if she had foreseen the outcome from the beginning, she had no regrets.
Kendric stared at her for a while. Celeste’s disheveled and distressed state
slightly torn apart his calm expression.
The simmering anger was unable to hide. He couldn’t understand why
Celeste had to leave, and made herself in such a mess.
He crouched down, trying to get closer.
He was at eye level with Celeste. He reached out and touched her
sweat–soaked cheek.
“Why didn’t you listen to me?”
Celeste avoided his eyes, and sarcastically retorted, “listen to you? Your
orders?” It’s like she wanted to tread on his pride, and she added, “why should I
listen to you?”
Kendric furrowed his brow, clearly confused why Celeste suddenly behaved
rebelling.
Anyway, he put an end to this so–called escape game. “You’ve been running for so long, been to so many places, and yet, here you are, still in my grasp.”
Celeste held onto the railing and put some distance between herself and
Kendric.
“I know I would be caught by you, but still, I chose to leave. Don’t you know

the reason?”
“Why?” he seriously asked.
Celeste thought Kendric couldn’t be more cruel. He had put her in
situations where she had no way out, yet he asked her why she struggled to
leave.
“Kendric, is it that hard to convince yourself to believe ‘I don’t love you.
anymore“?”
There was a tremor in Kendric’s voice. He struggled to control the surging
emotions he had never experienced before.
“Celeste, who would believe lies?”
Celeste pushed his hand away, and a turbulent storm raged within her.
“Sop deceiving yourself, Kendric. I can swear that I won’t love you anymore
in the future. Can you?”
Kendric’s expression turned grave, and he remained silent.
Her vision gradually blurred. Celeste used every last ounce of her strength.

“Kendric, with your bad tempered and arrogant nature, what makes you so
sure I’d be into you for life?”
The lake breeze eroded the last remnants of Kendric’s patience, and a
month’s accumulated anger was ready to burst out.
He effortlessly pulled Celeste up from the ground as if she were as light as a feather.

He pressed her against his chest and questioned, “who was it that once said, you’ll never leave me for a lifetime?”
“Who claimed to love me ‘til death, willing to give up even her own life?”
“Then what you are doing now? Playing hard to get?”
Celeste felt her vision turned more hazy, and every breath she took cost-
energy.

She had never imagined that her sweet nothings to Kendric would now be
twisted into mocking taunts and thrown back at herself.
Her ears were ringing, and her head ached relentlessly. It felt like every cell
in her body was revolted and screaming in disgust.
She tried to say something, but as soon as she parted her lips, she couldn’t
help vomiting.
Her consciousness rapidly faded, and she passed out in his arms.
It brought some sanity back to Kendric.
The nauseating odor of vomit filled the air.
But he still held her tightly, “I won’t let go. Even death has no way to separate us.”
