Joshua’s gaze fell on Yoel’s babbling mouth, wanting to shut him up.
How could Joshua know for sure that Cynthia did not do it?
He only said those things to find out why Cynthia was hiding her hacking skills. As her confidante, he did not even know about this aspect of her life.
When Joshua became visibly angry, Yoel joined in and asked, “Ms. Yates, why have you never told us that you’re a hacker?”
Cynthia replied, “Why should I?”
“Because it was really cool.”
Cynthia and Joshua were speechless.
“Just kidding.” Yoel also knew that his reply was absurd. Then, he adjusted his glass and added, “I just feel that it’s a pity that no one knows about your amazing skills.”
“It’s nothing pitiful.” Cynthia did not mind that.
As a child, Cynthia and Yoel had similar aspirations, thinking it was cool and impressive to be able to find information about anything just by using a computer. Hence, she wanted to become a skilled hacker when she grew up. However, her interest in hacking slowly faded away as she got older.
Cynthia realized that the information she could obtain through hacking was also available to the police, military, and other secret organizations of the state. Moreover, she had reached a high level of proficiency in hacking when she entered high school, and her teacher, who had introduced her to the world of hacking, had also retired.
Perhaps it was teenage rebellion, or maybe it was the fire of justice burning in her heart, but Cynthia used to search for evidence and then pass on the information to the police.
She became obsessed and dug deeper into the dark corners of the internet, where she came across the darkest aspects of humanity.
There was a place on the foreign website called the dark web where Cynthia saw many gruesome and terrifying things and realized that some people lacked basic human morality, colder than the demons from hell.
After that incident, she began to withdraw from hacking. She only secretly researched and sent information to the authorities when they had complex cases. However, Cynthia later realized that whatever she could find, they could also find. Hence, she gradually retreated even more.
Cynthia was grateful that she lived in the embrace of her motherland because it was so much safer compared to other
countries.
“It’s done.” Cynthia stopped recalling her past and opened the new folder saved on her desktop.
“The real cause of Jayleen’s car accident is here. Take a look for yourselves.”
She turned her computer slightly and pushed it toward them.
Yoel took the mouse and opened the folder, looking through the information one by one. It took him an hour to finish going through everything.
After reading the last piece of information, he had a feeling that went beyond his understanding.
“This plan is just too meticulous. It’s only a car accident, yet it involved such a large circle of people.”
What shocked him the most was Cynthia’s skills. In just this short amount of time, she retrieved recordings of the conversations between the mastermind and others.
This was too impressive.
“Mr. Neal, Ms. Yates didn’t do it. As long as we give this to the police, Ms. Yates will be proven innocent,” Yoel was like
Cynthia’s spokesperson.
“Do you really believe everything she says?” Joshua’s eyes were cold.
“What?” Yoel was a little confused.
“All evidence presented is not necessarily true.” Joshua made it clear that he did not trust them. “There’s a term called
fabrication.”
Cynthia was calm. “If you don’t want to apologize, just say it. There’s no need to be passive–aggressive.”
“Do you think you’re amazing just because you know a little about hacking?”
With one hand in his pocket, Joshua walked up to her coldly.
“I don’t believe anything you say or anything you find.”
“It’s not my problem whether you believe me or not!” Cynthia retorted.
