13 I’M STILL MARRIED
On her way, Isabella called; she put her on loudspeaker since she was driving. Isabella had invited her to have dinner out by 8 p.m.
Well, it was 6 p.m., and she thought the best way to distract herself was to shop. Shopping is therapeutic for Madison, and besides, the season is changing. That calls for a change of wardrobe.
As she stocked her trunk with different items from the store, she said to herself, “Shopping is indeed a woman’s therapy.”
It was 7:53 p.m. As they approached the Twilight Restaurant just beneath Ethan’s company building, Isabella drove in Madison’s car with Madison.
Ethan is the owner and uses it for his indulgence. Isabella was so excited as she took the vehicle.
“I’m going to spoil you tonight, girl! We’re going to celebrate being single again!” She screamed excitedly and flung herself around Madison, giving her a tight hug.
Madison didn’t seem excited, but Isabella thought she was still feeling the heat of the divorce and planned to help her get in the mood.
“Why here? Don’t you know where this is?” She asked in disgust at the sight of Ethan’s restaurant.
“Well, girl, picking this place was deliberate. I need Ethan to see, or at least get a report that you are doing so well without him,” Isabella responded as she unlocked the door to step out. Madison did the
same.
An escort welcomed Madison and Isabella from the entrance to the seat Isabella had earlier She tried to cheer Madison in different ways, but she looked gloomy all through.
requested.
“Come on, girl, what’s going on? Aren’t you a bit excited about your divorce? You’re finally free from the bastard; why is this gloomy? Don’t tell me you’re still in love with him after all he put you through.”
Madison had always wanted to be loved and had put all she could into her narriage for two years; every day, she hoped he’d show her the same love she felt and deserved.
“I’m still married, Isabella; I haven’t completed the paperwork.”
“What did you just say? What the hell happened?” Furious and shocked at Madison’s response, Isabella questioned him in disbelief.
“Well, no divorce means I’m still married,” she reaffirmed.
In the real sense of it, Madison’s childhood trauma had made it hard for her to let go of her husband; as prepared as she thought she was, she hadn’t come to accept the fact that she yearned for genuine affection, which subtly made her reluctant to want to let go.
She had loved Ethan from day one. She had always loved him for who he was, never for his wealth.

Although, just like every woman, Ethan had always believed she loved him for his money.
“Well, I hope I haven’t put you through much pressure; if you still want to marry him, follow your heart.”
“Oh, I don’t plan to, Isabella; I don’t plan to remain married to Ethan. I would have been divorced today. I got a call while I was about to proceed with the paperwork that Miss Olivia had taken ill and was admitted to the family hospital. You couldn’t go through with it“. Madison’s response was genuine.
“I am not crippled by this whole thing anymore. I’m stronger than you can imagine,” Madison continued.
A waiter collected their order, returned with their meals, and requested drinks.
As they settled to eat, they began having different drinks and laughs, and they didn’t notice Ethan walk in.
“For a woman whose mother–in–law is hospitalized, you seem happy,” Ethan interrupted Isabella and Madison, laughing.
Tears welled up in her eyes immediately at the sight of Ethan.
“What are you doing here?” Madison’s voice was cold and shaky.
“Did I scare you, dear?” Ethan was questioned sarcastically.
“Need I remind you that you’re on my property? You are my wife, and you should know that.“.
Madison wasn’t surprised because he was there; she hadn’t been expecting to see him since Mom was
in the clinic.
“I thought you’d be with Mom in the hospital.”
“If you were so concerned, why didn’t you come yourself?” Ethan refuted. “Ladies, care if I join you?” He adjusted a seat beside Madison and sat down.
“What do you think your staff would say seeing you having dinner with two women?” Isabella finally found a loop to join in the conversation.
“Oh no, dear, you underestimate me. Look around; I run this place.” Isabella and Madison just noticed the hall had been cleared, and they were the only ones in.
“On second thought, I think you should leave. I mean, you’re done here anyways, aren’t you?“.
Isabella was disgusted by his words. Did he walk her out? She thought to herself. She couldn’t believe her ears. Ethan is a scumbag, she thought. She couldn’t believe how her friend had put up with him all
this while.
Ethan smiled and continued, “I could call you a cab since Madison would be accompanying me to fulfill her responsibility as a wife and a daughter–in–law.” He picked up his phone to check through his contacts, but Madison put his hands down to stop him.

“There’d be no need for that; you can use the car home, Isabella.”
Isabella gave Ethan a very disgusting look, and he returned it with a smile. She grabbed her purse and the keys and excused herself.
A waiter came with Ethan in a minute, ordering a takeaway box. He had ordered it for his mom.
“Hand it over to her,” he said, pointing to Madison.
Madison was furious at him but concerned about Olivia after all. She collected the box and walked out towards Ethan’s car without saying a word.
“Are you mad at me because of Isabella? You’re the one who puts friends before family. “You came here to spend time with a friend while your mother is in the hospital, and now that I’ve gotten you back to your senses, you’re angry with me?”
Madison was furious at him, and she dragged the door for him to open without saying a word.
As Ethan drove, he tried to initiate a conversation.
“I heard you did great today, Miss Magnifique.‘
“Are you keeping tabs on me now?” If the staff at the studio was her first audience, Ethan was the second since he gets immediate reports.
He got a good report about her performance; he saw her in an excellent way he had never seen her
before.
Maya has brought her complaints to your hearing since she complained on set, too. Madison was becoming defensive.
“Well, she called to report the fact that you bullied her and pushed her far this time.”
Madison was surprised that she was being interrogated because of Maya. She wonders why men are so insane. When you love them, they don’t love you back, and when you try leaving them, they look for every opportunity to keep in touch. Such is the interrogation she is having now.
