Chapter 40
Zackary said excitedly, “Yeah, let alone the sisters with no blood relation. I even wish I could slap those half-siblings my stepmother gave birth to.”
“This is not the case for us. We’re friendly and good-natured, so we get along,” Mira said.
“You’re good-natured?” The corner of Hugh’s mouth twitched, and there was a scornful look on his face.
Zackary doubted it too and said, “Mira, if so, I would be the best man in this world.”
“Shut up. They are about the same age and live together. It’s a normal thing that they get along,” Chad said and then asked, “Mira, did you have dinner yet?”.
“No…”
Jacey realized something and said, “Oh, the manager said that two customers booked Royal Box but couldn’t afford the minimum spend. Was he talking about you two?”
Zackary said, “I don’t mean to make you two feel worse, but I have to say that if you can’t afford it, you shouldn’t book it.”
Paige said, “We didn’t book the room. It was…”
Jacey interrupted Paige and said, “Why don’t we have dinner together since we all know each other now? Don’t worry. These men will foot the bill.”
Jacey spoke as if these men were all at her command. She looked like Hugh’s wife when standing there with Hugh.
Paige was no fool. She knew Jacey was showing off, so she pretended to ask, “Are you Mr. Leopold’s sister?”
“No, I’m…”
Paige said, “Oh, you’re leaning on my sister’s husband, so I thought you were his sister.”
Jacey paused and glanced at Hugh. She saw him look down with a disappointed look, so she took a step aside and started to explain to him with tears in her eyes. “Hugh, I didn’t mean to cause this misunderstanding. It is just that I’m used to standing so close to you. When I see you, those memories just come back and make me forget that we already broke up.’
Wow!
Jacey turned out to be Hugh’s ex-girlfriend.
Paige cast a meaningful glance at Mira.
Mira shrugged. Hugh said gently to Jacey, “I don’t blame you.”
With tears in her eyes, Jacey looked so sad and said, “Mira, I’m sorry.”
Zackary felt pity for her and said, “Mira, why are you so pushy? If you could be nicer to Hugh, he would have listened to you. Also, Jacey is his ex-girlfriend. They didn’t make it to marriage because of the car accident. You kind of take her place. You should be more sensible and show some sympathy.”
Mira said, “I’m not pushy at all. I don’t blame Jacey for getting so close to Hugh. My sister didn’t know her. Can’t my sister be curious and ask questions?”
Paige apologized, “Sorry, I shouldn’t have asked. I was just curious. I didn’t mean any harm. Please don’t blame Mira for my mistake. She didn’t tell me anything just now.”
The others took a minute to recall and realized that Mira had been tolerating Jacey all this time.
Mira was indeed generous as a wife.
Hugh rubbed his glabella and said impatiently, “Enough. We’re hungry, aren’t we? Let’s go inside.”
