Chapter 38
Paige remembered something and said, “Abby has a phone watch, and she talks to her mother every day, sometimes three or four times a day.”
“I think for the sake of Abby’s well-being, she should talk to her mom as little as possible. You should tell Allen this. That woman betrayed her husband for her career and benefits. What could such a woman possibly teach Abby? If Abby listens to her, Abby will be dishonest like she. Abby is still young and it’s not too late to stop this.”
Paige felt distressed. “Allen said that he wouldn’t stop her from seeing or talking to Abby, because she’s still Abby’s mother. If I tell him what you told me, he will probably think I’m being petty.”
“Paige, you care too much about Allen and what he thinks!”
Mira continued confidently, “Look, you should be confident and even a bit arrogant in your marriage. Your dad was right. Allen is a divorced man, and you’re six years younger than him, good-looking, and from a well-off family. You’re too good for Allen, so he should listen to you and take care of you. He’s an associate professor. If he gets divorced again, people gossip, you know.”
“Mira, you’re so smart!”
Paige stroked Mira’s hair in shock. “You’re 21 years old, and you can figure out all the problems in marriage.”
“It’s easy. You’ll know it by looking at my mom and your dad. Your dad makes more money, so he is allowed to boss around my mom. This is true for many couples. If you love him more, you’ll be the one who compromises and sacrifices.”
Paige looked at Mira’s calm face, sighed, and stroked her head. “Though he’s my father, I have to say he’s a pr ick. He’s the kind of guy who doesn’t cherish a woman after he has her love,” said Paige.
“Don’t worry. I’m not an ungrateful person. I would have been a dropout long ago without his help.”
A knock on the door came after Mira finished her sentence.
The waiter asked, “Are you ready to order?”
Mira looked at Paige and said, “You haven’t ordered anything. What about us having dinner here?”
“OK. People say their food is good. It’s on me this time.”
The waiter asked politely, “Only two of you? I need to remind you that private rooms are very popular, in particular this one. It’s exclusive to super VIP member
and the minimum spend is 16 thousand dollars.”
There was a moment of silence.
Stunned by the amount, Mira and Paige looked at each other.
They didn’t expect the Duncan family to book such an expensive place and to be a super VIP member here.
Paige hastened to say, “There are only two of us. We can’t have so many dishes. Do you have a table outside?”
“Sorry, no table is available there.”
“OK, let’s go somewhere else,” Mira said and stood up.
“Yes.” The waiter nodded and spoke to the walkie-talkie, “Manager, Royal Box is available now.”
The manager said, “Great. Our boss and his friends will be there in a minute.”
Mira and Paige picked up their things to leave. When they reached the door, four men and a woman walked up.
Mira recognized three of them. She saw Hugh every day, Chad this morning, and Zackary, who was with Hugh last night. The only stranger looked as noble and rich as them. Others’ eyes were drawn to these men.
The woman was wearing a delicate dress, and fancy jewelry with a handbag, all from luxury brands.
Mira remembered her. She was Jacey.
Jacey was close to Hugh as if they were a couple crazy about each other.
Mira didn’t like the scene.
Fortunately, Mira didn’t love Hugh; otherwise, there would be a show where Mira gave Jacey a hard time.
Paige was stunned.
