Chapter 2
“He is not old at all, OK? He’s only 30”
Paige retorted gently, “30 is the age when a man matures, Besides, let alone others, don’t you know how many years I’ve been having a crush on him?”
In fact, Mira knew very well.
Allen Duncan saved Paige when she was 15 from a landslide while she was hiking with her cla**mates.
She fell in love with him at first sight.
Yet at that time, Paige was too young, and Allen already had a girlfriend, so she could only keep her feelings to herself.
When they met again, Allen had already divorced.
The timid Paige mustered her courage to hit on him for the first time in her life.
However, Mira didn’t get it. How could someone fall in love with someone else, just because they had been saved?
If that made sense, cops would be Prince Charming for countless people.
“Enough about me,” Paige said anxiously. “Now that Mr. Leopold has woken up, what are you gonna do? Sooner or later, the Leopold family will find out you’re not the bride

they want.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll try to get a divorce as soon as possible”
Mira comforted her and then said, “Alright, I’ll talk to you later, I’m in the ward now. If anything, we’ll talk on Line”
Hanging up the phone, Mira felt extremely bitter.

The next day arrived.
Mira woke up with two dark circles under her eyes,
She happened to meet Taryn’s gentle eyes. “Good girl. Did you not sleep well last night, because you were too concerned about Hugh? Thanks.”
“Don’t… mention it.”
Mira quickly stood up, only to find that Brenden and Taryn had come at some point. There were quite a few people standing in the lounge.
Mira was a bit guilty. She wasn’t concerned about Hugh at all, as they barely knew each other.
She didn’t sleep well, as she was worried about her future.
“Go wash your face, and then let’s go see Hugh.” Taryn adored Mira so much.
Mira bit the bullet and went into the bathroom.
After slowly brushing her teeth and washing her face, she

came out of the bathroom and met the carer, who smiled and said, “Go and see your husband. He is awake.”
Mira shuddered and walked quietly to the door.
Inside the room, Taryn choked up and said, “You’re awake finally. I haven’t been able to eat or sleep since your accident. You are my life!”
“Mom, I’m sorry I worried you,” Hugh spoke weakly.
“I’m so glad that it’s over now. It’s all thanks to Mira this time.” Taryn wiped her tears.
“Who?” Hugh was confused.
“The fiancée we had for you from the Boyle family,” Brenden reminded Hugh.
It took Hugh a moment to remember that he used to have a fiancée indeed.
It was said that Paige’s grandma came from a very prominent family and did the Leopold Group a big favor more than ten years ago. In order to repay her, Xavier Leopold, Hugh’s grandpa, arranged for Hugh and Paige to get married when the two were kids.
Over the years, the Leopold Group had developed better and better, while the Boyle family had gone downhill. It was now just a third–rate family in Svallion City.
The marriage had been put on hold since Xavier’s death.
Over the years, Hugh had been strongly opposed to the
marriage.
And Taryn and Brenden held the same idea as Hugh. Both thought that Hugh was out of the Boyle family’s league.
They came to the Boyle family, as their hands were tied this time. There was no other suitable candidate to marry Hugh,
Taryn explained, “You were in intensive care for half a month before, and the doctors said you were hopeless and asked us to take you home to prepare for your funeral. I didn’t believe them, so I went to Mr. Esther, a prestigious man in Harbor City. He said that marriage could bring hope back to us, so we went to the Boyle’s home. You and Mira got married last night. And soon after you got married, you woke up last night.”
Hugh listened, and then his handsome face turned sullen.
“Mom, you still believe this given the age we are in? Even if I didn’t marry that woman, I’d wake still up. The marriage doesn’t count.”
“How come it doesn’t count? You’ve got your marriage certificates already.”
Hugh quipped, “Even the doctors said I wouldn’t make it. Do you believe that the Boyle family would be willing to marry their daughter into our family to be a widow?”
“We figured that they might say no, so we offered them 33 million dollars no matter what the result would be,” Taryn said truthfully.
“That makes sense now. They’re after the money,” Hugh

mocked.
“Cut the crap. You’ve married her already,” Brenden
interrupted him gravely. After turning around, Brenden saw Mira hiding behind the door.
“Why are you standing at the door, Mira? Come in.”
Brenden beckoned kindly.
Mira had to come in.
Hugh, who was in the bed, sized Mira up.
It was the first time he had met his rumored fiancée.
She was still wearing a wedding dress, with a round, slightly baby–fat face, and her eyes were pure.
Her pure and lovely looks, after she put on the wedding dress, became a bit enchanting.
Hugh had to admit she was quite pretty.
Yet he had seen a lot of pretty women.
“Dad, Mom, I want to talk to her alone. Can you step out for a second?” Hugh said coldly.
“You think I don’t know what you want to…”
“Enough. Let them talk.”
Taryn suddenly pulled Brenden. “With us being here, they might be too reserved.“”
“Don’t bully Mira, or I will disown you as my son,” Brenden

gave Hugh a warning before leaving with Taryn.
Hugh sneered, wondering how Mira had bewitched Brenden.
He figured that the more innocent a woman looked, the more scheming she was.
“You married me for money, right? I’ll give you 8.3 million dollars to divorce me,” he said impatiently.
“OK.” Mira blinked and nodded.
“Sure enough…”
His eyes turned more contemptuous. “I knew it. You’re just a gold digger.”
Mira was stunned. “Gold? Where’s the gold?”
“A glib woman no less.” Hugh loathed her even more.
Mira was speechless for a second. Then she said, “Is your brain damaged… because of the accident?”
“What did you say?”
Hugh’s pale face suddenly darkened, like a sign before a
storm.
“Was I wrong?” Mira looked confused. “I’ve never seen you before, and I don’t know you. When your parents asked me to marry you, everyone in Svallion City knew you were dying. I’m so young, and I have no feelings for you. If your family didn’t offer such a great sum of money, who would

marry you? I’m not stupid, and nor do I like being a widow.”
Hugh was furious. “You…”
“Or do you think you are so charming that every woman
wants to marry you the second they hear your name?” Mira added fuel to the fire.
“Mira!”
Hugh tried to stand up, but as soon as he sat up a little, he began to feel dizzy.
