Chapter 17
Mira pulled out her phone. “I can leave, and you can let me and Hugh divorce. Yet I will only leave with a clear name. You claimed that I was the thief, right? Fine. I’ll call the police and let them investigate.”
Brenden scolded, “Nonsense! Do you think we aren’t humiliated enough? Do you want others to know as well?”
“That’s right. Stop making a fool of yourself! Domestic shame ought not to be made public” Taryn echoed.
“Just because you don’t want to be humiliated, I have to be the so–called thief in your mouths? I’m sorry, but my innocence is more important to me than anything else.”
Mira called the police at once.
Brenden reached out, trying to grab her phone, yet she was young after all. She ducked into the bathroom and made the call.
“She is too much!”
Brenden was furious. He turned to dial Hugh’s number.
“Get your a** back here! Mira, that damn woman, has called the police!” Brenden roared at Hugh angrily.
Hugh was busy in the office, and he was stunned.
He thought, “What happened?
“This morning, Dad still doted on Mira so much that he demanded me to pick her up.
“And now, he calls her a damn woman?”
Though Hugh was a very smart person, he still couldn’t help but be puzzled right now.
“Dad, what’s going on?”
“Mira stole Sylvia’s necklace worth 830 thousand dollars, got into a fight with Sylvia, and refused to admit that she stole it. We asked her to hand over the necklace, and she called the police! Get back now!”
Hugh was shocked.
He thought, “Mira fought with Sylvia?
“She stole Sylvia’s necklace?
“For a moment, I feel like I kind of admire her.
“I can tell that Dad and Mom dislike Mira so much. Perhaps
if I head back in time, I get to divorce her.”
He tossed away what he was doing and drove back to the Leopold’s villa at once.
There were two police cars parked in the yard.
Mira indeed called the police. She was giving a statement.
As he entered, he happened to hear Mira crying to a policeman.
“I admit that I didn’t come from a rich family. I was lucky enough to marry into the Leopold family. Yet my parents have taught me since I was young that I should never steal. Am I a sinner, simply because I am poor? Who says I’ll steal as long as I see something valuable? Would you be OK with being slandered like that if it were you?”
A policewoman was working on the case, and she nodded when she heard Mira’s words.
Most police didn’t come from rich families.
Being called a thief without solid proof because of one’s inferior family background was indeed unfair and
provoking.
Sylvia was aside, and she was unhappy when hearing Mira’s words. “It was just you in the living room. Who else could it be? Did a ghost steal my necklace?”
Mira said, “Maybe it was you who wanted to smear me. Everyone knows that you hate me. Ever since I moved here, you have been targeting me all the time. By the way, Ma’am, that necklace was a gift from my husband’s ex- girlfriend. She came here today and chatted with Sylvia happily. Sylvia even asked me to step down for the sake of my husband’s ex–girlfriend.”
“Stop lying! I won’t do something so despicable!”
Sensing the suspicious look from the police, Sylvia threw herself into Brady’s arms. “Brady, Mira is so shameless! Get her out of here now! I don’t want to see her for another
second.”
Brady glanced at Sylvia in his arms, who was disheveled and unkempt with several scratches on her face. He frowned. “My wife won’t do something like that.”
“I agree.”
Hugh walked in with long legs and a cold look.
He glanced at Mira with cold eyes and then said, “I’m Mira’s husband. I can testify that Mira is a very greedy woman
who loves money. It’s not surprising that she steals for the sake of money”
At that moment, Mira’s heart sank thoroughly.
