Chapter 10
“Allen is indeed excellent, yet he has divorced once already”
Mira frowned and said, “And Paige, you have never dated. It’s not a good deal for you at all.”
“I don’t think so. I feel very happy to give all the things I’ve done for the first time in my life to the one I love. You’ve never loved someone, and you don’t get it.”
Paige smiled, “Besides, a lot of things he did were against his intention. His ex–wife leaked his academic materials in order to go abroad, and then she did not want to return home. Things between them were destined not to work out.”
Mira was stunned.
She had no idea that Allen’s ex–wife was such a woman. “So, his ex–wife didn’t come back?”
“That’s right.” Paige nodded.
Mira was relieved. She was worried that Allen’s ex–wife would show up out of the blue someday and make trouble.
Mira and Paige were walking side by side on the path with trees on both sides.
They were in the block filled with accommodation buildings

for teachers built by the school. Although the buildings here were already more than ten years old, the environment here was quiet, and the walls were covered with many
climbing plants.
Allen’s place was at the back, a room on a relatively higher floor, equipped with elevators.
When they were almost there, Paige glanced at Mira’s face secretly and whispered, “There’s something I haven’t told you. Allen has a five–year–old girl who has lived with her grandmother and recently came to visit us on vacation. The girl hasn’t been in a very good mood these days. Don’t mind her.”
Mira, who was walking steadily, was shocked, and even her legs trembled. “Allen has a kid? You’re a stepmom now?”
“Keep your voice down.” Paige covered her ears. Then she added, “He has a girl. She’s cute.””
Mira didn’t want to say anything anymore.
She had never loved anyone, and she thought love made one nothing but crazy and irrational.
They got out of the elevator, and Paige opened the door.
Allen was sitting on the couch, reading a fairy tale book with a cute girl.
Allen, dressed in a loungewear, had handsome, gentle features.
Despite his gentlemanly side, Mira had seen his rigorous,

knowledgeable side in cla**.
“Hi, Mira.”
Allen stood up and said kindly, “Have you eaten yet? Would you like me to fix you something?”
“No need, Dr. Duncan. I’ve had a lot tonight,” Mira said, well–behaved.
Allen patted his daughter on the head and said, “This is my daughter, Abby Duncan.”
After a pause, he reminded Abby, “Say hello. This is Paige’s younger sister.”
“They don’t look alike at all,” Abby curled her lip and said.
Mira frowned quietly.
Then Abby pushed away Allen’s hand. “I’m going back to my room to read.”
After that, she ran back to the bedroom.
“I’m sorry. She’s too young and not sensible,” Allen rubbed his brow and said helplessly.
“It’s fine.” Mira wouldn’t argue with a five–year–old girl.
“Paige, stay with Mira while I make her bed.”
Allen went back to the room to lay the sheets and bring out clean towels and toothbrushes.
Mira whispered to Paige, “Paige, Abby is cute, but I don’t
think she’s nice enough to accept you.”
Paige smiled, “It’s normal. Children this young will inevitably feel insecure when their parents get divorced. To her, I am a stranger, and it’s inevitable that she is wary of me. Wasn’t that what you did when you first came to the Boyle’s home? And what now? Aren’t we close or what?”
“I wasn’t like this back then. I was worried that you wouldn’t like me. Besides, not every child is as nice as I am.”
Mira wanted to say that Elle’s upbringing was one of the
reasons, too.
On the contrary, Mira’s father was an alcoholic and had never taken care of her.
Mira thought, “But the case is different for Abby. Abby’s mother leaked Allen’s academic materials to others just to go abroad, which means that her character was
questionable.
“Given that, I’m confident that Abby isn’t as much upright
as me.
“Of course, maybe I shouldn’t think so badly of a little girl”
Only half an hour later, Mira didn’t feel that way anymore.
She came out of the shower just in time to see Abby pouring a gla** of water on the bed where she was supposed to sleep.
“What are you doing?”
Mira wasn’t the generous type, and she grabbed Abby’s hand in fury at once.
“This is my home. I can pour water wherever I want.” Abby glared at her with hatred. “I hate you. You and Paige are the same. You want to occupy my home. You don’t deserve to sleep here.”
Mira was furious. “Since Paige is married to your father, she deserves to be here. This is your home, and it’s also her home.”
“That’s not true! Paige is the shameless mistress! If she hadn’t seduced my dad, my parents would never have separated, “Abby said with a look of hatred on her face.
“I dare you to speak ill of Paige again!” Mira flared up.
Abby glared at Mira for a second. Suddenly, she pouted and burst into tears.
“What’s wrong, Abby?” Paige and Allen walked in at once.
“Daddy, she bullied me.” Abby immediately broke free from Mira’s arms and threw herself into Allen’s arms. She said with sobs, “1… I wanted to pour some water for Mira, but… I accidentally spilled it on the quilt, and she… scolded me”
Mira’s eyes widened. If she hadn’t seen it with her own eyes, she wouldn’t have believed a five–year–old could turn things so wrong and utterly.
“Stop lying! You poured the water on purpose”
Allen said in a low voice, “Mira, don’t ignore Abby. She is

just a girl and means no harm.”
Abby continued to cry. She said, “She… said that it’s Paige’s home, and both of them will have a lot of babies in the future. I … am not qualified to stay here. Daddy, will you leave me?”
“No. I will never leave you.” Allen bent down and wiped away Abby’s tears gently.
Mira had no idea what to say.
Having nowhere else to go wasn’t the only reason she was here today. In fact, the main reason was that she wanted to know how Paige had been doing after getting married.
And the scene shocked her.
“Mira…” Paige patted Mira’s shoulder with a hint of helplessness in her gentle eyes.
“Paige, I said no such things,” Mira said, holding back her anger.
Paige nodded.
Abby suddenly struggled violently in Allen’s arms, crying, “I didn’t lie. I really didn’t lie! She bullied me, and she even hurt my hand.”
“I’ll blow the pain over. Don’t cry. I’ll take you to your room to read, OK?” Allen coaxed Abby gently throughout and then took Abby next door.
He didn’t blame anyone or say any harsh words.
