Chapter 5 She Didn’t Ask Me For A Cent

Today was an extremely terrible day for Killian. Originally, he thought that it
was a good thing that he divorced Vanessa.
Unfortunately, shortly after the news of their divorce spread, Killian’s phone
was bombarded with calls from his friends.
All of them asked him about the divorce.
Well, it wasn’t a difficult question, and Killian didn’t intend to keep it a secret
either. Moreover, after what had happened in the morning, how could the
public not know about it?
“Yes, we are divorced,
” Killian replied honestly with a cold voice.
The person on the other end of the line took a deep breath. “Oh, my God, that
silly woman finally gave up on you? Killian, for a moment, I don’t even know
whether I should congratulate you or sympathize with you. In our circle,
Vanessa is the only one who revolves her life around her husband. It’s going to
be hard to find another woman like her again. Other than being a little stupid,
weak, poor, and money-oriented, she is actually quite a fine lady.”
Killian was stunned, wondering what kind of people his friends were. After all,
he had thought that he would hear words of congratulatory.
What was worse was when he had received such calls three times in a row.

was clear what his mother came here for.
Julia was overjoyed upon hearing that Vanessa and Killian had parted ways.
However, when she saw the article on the trending list, she was out of sorts.
She couldn’t figure out how Edmund got involved with Vanessa.
It was said that he had had a crush on Vanessa for years. Despite knowing that
it was impossible for them to be together, he still hoped that Vanessa could
leave the Bates family to end her suffering. Now that she had divorced,
Edmund, who was her good friend and also her former secret admirer, felt on
top of the world.
Although the text wasn’t long, Julia could sense the implicit meanings behind
it.
She directly rushed into Killian’s office and asked,
“Tell me the truth. Was it
because Vanessa had cheated on you that she asked for a divorce?”
Even though their three-year marriage was nominal, no man was willing to be
cuckolded.
Killian’s expression darkened at once. “Mom, what are you talking about?”
After being retorted by Vanessa a few days ago and finding that her son was
likely to be cuckolded upon reading the articles on the internet, Julia could not
calm herself down.
“Look! As soon as you stepped out of the courthouse, her suitor came to pick
her up! Who knew if they had been together a long time ago? How can we bear
Killian had been swamped with work since he returned from the courthouse.
He had expected their divorce news to be exposed online, but it had never
occurred to him that it would end up like this.
When he saw that Vanessa was said to have been Edmund’s crush for many
years, his heart somehow stung a little. He wondered if what Julia said was
right, considering how decisive Vanessa was in divorcing him.
However, he came to himself soon after. Even though he didn’t like Vanessa,
he was aware that she had been asked to do the house chores by Julia all day
long. It was impossible for Vanessa to have time to cheat on him.
“Mom, I have parted ways with Vanessa. It’s an amicable divorce, and she
didn’t take anything from me. From now on, let’s just think that she doesn’t
exist. You’d better spend lesser time reading those entertainment news.”
Julia was stunned. It wasn’t just because of the trending topic that she was
bent out of shape; it was also because she thought that Vanessa must have
demanded a high amount of alimony from them.
She couldn’t believe her ears. “She took nothing? Didn’t she get married into
our family for money? How could she ask for nothing?”
Killian didn’t want to talk to Julia anymore, so he called Gavin in. “Show my
mom the divorce agreement.” Then, he picked up his coat and left.
Staring at his back, Julia asked,
“Are you going home for dinner with me?”
“I got something else to do.”

When Killian returned to his apartment, he finally sensed silence. He had been
so tied up for the whole day that he had no time to carefully think about his
divorce from Vanessa. He went to the courthouse this morning just to see what
Vanessa was up to.
However, it had never crossed his mind that she would really divorce him.
Vanessa was money-oriented, and she loved him with a sincere heart, just as
his friend, Caleb Adam, said, she was a greedy person who wanted both his
money and his love, so how could she be willing to divorce so easily?
Hence, Killian went to the courthouse without bringing the agreement she
gave him that day. To his surprise, as soon as she saw him, she handed him
another identical copy of the agreement.
At that time, he was a little confused and just did whatever Vanessa told him
to. When he realized it, the divorce certificate was already in his hand.
To be more exact, it was in his pocket at the moment. He took it out and
spared it a glance. His eyes hurt from looking at it somehow, so he threw it
into the trash can not far away.
All of a sudden, his phone rang. Killian looked at it and had no intention of
answering the call.
However, the other party didn’t seem to be giving up.
With a long face, he reached for the phone. His face turned even more gloomy
upon seeing the caller ID. “What’s the matter?”

Just as he was about to hang up on his friend, Caleb suddenly said,

way, I’m at Vanessa’s party now. Your ex-wife is so generous. She is paying for

asked a fortune from you, didn’t she?”
Killian frowned,
“Not even a cent.”
Caleb was shocked.
Everyone in the city knew what a money-oriented person Vanessa was.
When Julia fainted because of hypoglycemia, Vanessa happened to be there
and sent her to the hospital. She even asked for ten million dollars to have her
favor returned. However, before Killian could agree to it, she changed her
mind and requested one hundred million dollars instead.
Back then, someone took a video and posted it online. Killian got furious at
once, but she was still not satisfied. She then asked him to marry her.
In short, one hundred million dollars wasn’t enough to satisfy Vanessa’s greed
for money. She wanted to cling to Killian for his status and wealth.
They were never a real couple in their three years of marriage. Everyone in the
circle laughed at Vanessa. They thought that Vanessa would ask for at least
hundreds of millions from Killian after the divorce.
