Chapter 9
When Susan stepped into the master bedroom, she had a feeling of suffocation.
The decoration of Ben’s room was depressing.
The walls were snow–white with no decorations whatsoever. The curtains. were black, and the carpet was gray, creating a dark and gloomy atmosphere that seemed to swallow Susan whole.
“Go lie down on the bed,” Ben suddenly said.
Susan’s heart skipped a beat, and the feeling of suffocation disappeared.
She turned to look at Ben and stammered, “So… so soon?”
Now that Susan had decided to marry Ben, she was willing to do everything a wife should do.
However, it was all happening too suddenly, and she wasn’t prepared for it.
Ben glanced at Susan in confusion, asking, “Is there a problem?”
“N–No… no problem.”
Susan walked hesitantly towards the bed, stealing a glance at Ben.
However, Ben remained motionless.
Susan panicked.
She thought, “Do I have to take the initiative?”
Susan couldn’t help but feel conflicted.
Leaning against the door, Ben observed Susan’s changing expressions with interest. “How does this woman have so many expressions?” he thought.
Susan took several deep breaths as if she had finally made up her mind. She strode up to Ben and then reached out to unbutton his shirt without hesitation.
Ben was taken aback and grabbed her hands immediately. “What are you doing?” he asked.
Susan looked up at him and put on a determined expression, saying, “I’m helping you undress so that we can rest sooner.”
She tried to appear calm, but her face involuntarily turned slightly red.

Suddenly, it clicked for Ben.
He found it both funny and ridiculous.
“What is she thinking about?” he thought.
He held Susan’s chin and said, “I thought you married me against your will.”
“And why are you being so proactive now?” he mused inwardly.
Susan was stunned, feeling nervous.
Ben had always been said to be a moody man.
Although he had been somewhat considerate towards her before, she didn’t know what he would do if she said something improper.
“Lying to Ben can have disastrous consequences.” Susan thought it over and decided that honesty was the best approach. She pondered for a moment and honestly said, “At first, I really didn’t want to marry you. But now I have changed my mind.”
“Is that so?” Ben’s lips curled up slightly as his gaze turned ice–cold.
He didn’t believe it.
Susan continued, “I have come to believe that you are not the violent person that others have rumored about, and marrying you is my only way out.”
Ben was momentarily stunned by her response. It was an unexpectedly realistic answer.
Ben had thought that she would say she admired him or something like that, but she didn’t.
Nonetheless, Susan had no intention of elaborating any further. She simply lifted her head and gazed at Ben with sincerity, uttering, “I understand that we are practically strangers, and it’s natural for you to lack trust in me. However, please believe that I am wholeheartedly devoted to making our marriage successful, now that I have become your wife. As long as you’re willing, I’ll be with you forever.”
The soft lighting did nothing to improve Ben’s face. Instead, it
accentuated the terrifying scars, making him even less pleasant to look at.
No one would want to look at such a face.
However, Susan kept her gaze fixed on Ben.
It was highly likely that she would spend a long time with this man, so she had to get used to his face as soon as possible.

At that moment, Susan felt a little nervous.
She didn’t know if her vague explanation would satisfy Ben.
Ben glanced at Susan and smiled slowly. “Forever?”
“As long as you’re willing” Susan nodded earnestly,
She couldn’t force herself to like Ben at the moment, but that didn’t prevent her from making a commitment.
This union had been initiated by Yana’s deliberate efforts to capture the Landor family’s attention. Despite Susan being compelled to marry Ben instead of Yana, she recognized her duty as a wife and willingly embraced the responsibility that came with the marriage.
Everyone said that she owed Yana a healthy body.
So marrying Ben and accompanying him for a lifetime was her way of repaying that debt!
However, life was lengthy, and Susan didn’t want to live in constant animosity with Ben. She wanted to make an effort to bring happiness into both their lives.
Love was not a factor in her mindset. Rather, she possessed a hopeful. disposition towards life.
Susan’s words were resolute, and now Ben found it difficult to smile at her answer. He looked at Susan carefully.
He could see that Susan was still a little afraid of him, but she tried to look at him directly.
This woman… surprised him again.
Ben suppressed his strange emotions and replied lightly, “Alright, rest
now.”
Susan blushed again and asked, “And what about you?”
Ben cast a sidelong glance at her and said, “Don’t be too eager. We’ve had a tiring day today, and this rest is meant literally. Got it?”
Ben intentionally emphasized the word “literally“.
Susan’s face reddened even more, and she stammered, “I… I understand…”
She thought, “Oh my god! This is embarrassing. Ben didn’t mean that from the beginning, did he? I am so stupid.”
Susan felt too embarrassed to stand there. She turned around and was about to leave, but Ben suddenly grabbed her collar.

“What’s wrong?” Susan was too awkward to look at him.
Ben sighed, “There is leisure wear in the closet. Remember to change. your clothes.”
Susan nodded absentmindedly, and only then did Ben let go of her.
Susan opened the closet, which was divided into two sections, one for Ben’s clothes and one for hers.
Most of Ben’s clothes were shirts and suits, and they were black, white, or gray. The clothes prepared for her, however, were much brighter. These clothes of different colors looked uniquely harmonious in the closet.
Susan hurriedly took her leisure wear and rushed to the bathroom to take a shower. When she came out in the new clothes, Ben had taken out his laptop and was working.
Susan hesitated for a moment. She did not go over. Instead, she obediently burrowed into the quilt.
Susan was so sleepy after a busy day, but she still struggled to wait for Ben.
However, the dim lighting made her drowsy. Watching him from behind, Susan fell asleep gradually.
When Ben closed the laptop and turned around, he saw that Susan had already fallen asleep.
He narrowed his eyes and walked over slowly.
He looked at her quietly for a while and then reached out to pull the blanket for her.
As soon as he moved, Susan woke up.
Rubbing her eyes, she asked, “Are you done with your work?”
“Yeah,” Ben replied.
“Are you tucking me in?” Susan looked at Ben’s hand holding the corner of the blanket and asked.
Ben hesitated and didn’t really want to admit it.
However, Susan already had a gentle smile on her face. “Thank you.”
Her smile was so radiant as if he had done something very important.
Ben was a little awkward and he said, “Good night.”
Susan was sleepy. She responded and turned over, falling asleep again. Ben stood at the head of the bed, looking at Susan with a strange

expression in his eyes.
He suddenly had a special feeling… “Has Susan never been treated well at her home?” he wondered.
He didn’t consider himself a good person, just doing what anyone else would do. However, Susan seemed grateful for some trivial things he did. Compared to ordinary people, the Miller family was rich.
Though Susan wasn’t as favored as Yana in the Miller family, he deemed she was at least loved.
Ben suddenly thought of what Susan said just now.
She said marrying him was her only way out.
Ben thought, “Why is marrying someone like me a way out for her? What kind of life did she lead in the Miller family?”
For the first time, Ben became interested in Susan’s past.
Ben never enjoyed compromising his own desires, so when he became intrigued, he permitted himself to indulge in it. Without hesitation, he made a phone call and commanded, “I want to receive all of Susan’s information. Have it delivered to my desk tomorrow morning.”
Hanging up the phone, he looked at the sleeping Susan and chuckled softly.
Being with her forever?
He was looking forward to it.
