Amidst the silence, Susan gritted her teeth and was about to answer on behalf of Ben, “He…”
“I do.”
Susan’s words were cut off as an arrogant voice interjected.
Susan turned around abruptly and then she saw a figure approaching under the sun.
The light was a little dazzling, so Susan couldn’t make out the person’s face at first. She only felt as if the entire world was bathed in light for a
moment.
After the initial blinding glare subsided, she saw the man’s face.
There was a slight commotion in the crowd.
It was probably because Ben’s face was truly terrifying.
From his face down to his neck, his skin was covered in large patches of red burns, and in some areas, there were clusters of blisters, making it impossible to look directly at him.
At first glance, Susan was also startled, but she quickly regained her composure. After all, she had known that Ben’s face was burned. She had been mentally prepared beforehand.
After a moment of initial shock, Susan looked at Ben with almost a sense of gratitude.
At least she didn’t have to stand alone in embarrassment anymore.
Ben walked over expressionlessly. As he walked past those who met his gaze, they all lowered their heads–either out of fear or respect.
Finally Ben arrived by Susan’s side.
He leaned closer to Susan on purpose. “Are you surprised to see me?” He knew how terrifying his face looked, and he had imagined how terrified Susan would be.
Susan was momentarily astounded by the up–close view of the gruesome scars, but she took a deep breath and made an effort to maintain eye contact with Ben.
Her voice was soft and gentle. “I’m pleasantly surprised that you could make it.”

She didn’t tremble, jump away, or scream.
Ben arched an eyebrow, slightly taken aback.
He scrutinized Susan, trying to gauge whether she was really surprised.
But he saw her gratitude to him.
Ben was stunned.
He thought, “Is she insane? I arrived late to the wedding and deliberately scared her, but she is grateful to me?”
Charlie was also somewhat pleased to see that Susan showed no fear and stared directly at Ben.
He cleared his throat and gave a threatening look to the priest. “Restart the ceremony!”
Ben also turned to look at the priest, who was trembling with fear.
Ben sneered, “You were quite fluent in your speech when I wasn’t here, weren’t you? You suddenly lost your voice? If you can’t speak, should I cut out your tongue right here, in front of all these people?”
In the midst of the wedding, Ben was threatening the priest in front of so many people.
Susan glanced at Ben and couldn’t help but think that it was no wonder Ben had such a reputation.
This time, people would probably say he was cruel in private again.
But Susan was not afraid of him at all. Instead, she felt warm inside.
She wondered, “Is Ben standing up for me, knowing that the priest tried to embarrass me earlier?”
The priest was so frightened by Ben that his legs went weak, and he hastily resumed the ceremony.
“Mr. Landor, do you willingly…”
Before he could finish, Ben interrupted him impatiently, “I do.”
The priest wiped away his cold sweat and said, “And Ms. Miller…”
Susan smiled and, without waiting for the priest to finish, said, “I do too.”
The priest was left speechless.
It was so embarrassing.
Ben cast a brief glance at Susan, his gaze growing deeper as he thought, “This woman is proving to be quite interesting,”

After the ceremony, Susan breathed a sigh of relief.
She had finally cleared the first hurdle.
At that moment, she had a strange feeling.
She had thought Timothy was her light, but his appearance today had left her in a more difficult situation.
She had thought Ben was a nightmare, but now he stood by her side, giving her a shred of dignity.
Susan stole a glance at Ben and suddenly felt that his face wasn’t as frightening as she had initially thought.
“Reverend, you seem to forget something,” Penelope stood up and said. with a smile.
Ben narrowed his eyes and looked at the priest.
The priest trembled and couldn’t utter a word.
Seeing the priest shrink back, Penelope narrowed her eyes and said softly, “Reverend, there was originally a part, where the two newlyweds. share a kiss before God, right?”
Ben’s expression turned cold.
The priest trembled even more, but remembering the benefits promised by Penelope, he mustered the courage to say, “Y–Yes…”
Penelope chuckled, “Well then, let’s have the newlyweds share a kiss. I’ve heard that a kiss here receives the blessing of God for a happy and long–lasting marriage. Ben, I hope that this marriage of yours will be filled with happiness and last a lifetime.”
She smiled as if genuinely wishing them well.
Ben looked at her coldly.
If it were any other couple, a kiss wouldn’t be a big deal.
But he and Susan were strangers.
Moreover, his face was so grotesque that even regular people found the face itself horrifying, let alone kissing him.
Although seemingly composed, Susan was a young girl after all. How could she possibly be willing to kiss him?
Penelope was clearly trying to humiliate him in front of all these people.
That was something every discerning person could see.
Charlie glanced at Penelope and his expression darkened.

“Please share a kiss.” The priest said, having calmed down.
He said to himself, “Most church weddings include this part, and I’m just following the usual procedure. Ben might have power and influence, but this is a society governed by the rule of law, and I wouldn’t let him have his way.”
“You’re asking for trouble,” Ben’s gaze turned cold in an instant, and he walked towards the priest with a poker face.
“M–Mr. Landor, what do you intend to do?” The priest’s newfound confidence crumbled immediately, and he retreated in fear.
“What do I intend to do?” Ben’s voice became even colder.
He had no patience for verbal sparring. Since this priest was outrageous, he would simply throw him out!
As for the consequences, Ben couldn’t care less; he was notorious to begin with.
Just as Ben was about to forcibly get the priest out, his hand was suddenly gently held.
Ben was stunned for a moment. He turned his head and saw Susan’s clear
eyes.
“What is this woman trying to do?” he thought.
Susan walked up to Ben and glanced at him with a hint of shyness. Then she stood on her tiptoes and kissed his lips without hesitation.
Ben’s pupils contracted sharply.
Her lips were soft and carried a hint of sweetness, like the finest cotton candy.
She didn’t close her eyes; instead, she gazed steadily at him.
Despite his hideous appearance, there was not a trace of hesitation or fear in her eyes.
Ben’s heart suddenly skipped a beat.
With deep eyes, he kissed Susan back.
As they kissed, the scene appeared surprisingly harmonious except for
Ben’s face.

“Ben confronted the priest and then kissed Susan affectionately. I feel like Ben isn’t as terrifying as the rumors suggest. And it seems that he likes Susan very much.”

Penelope maintained her smile, but in fact, she was so angry that her nails dug deep into her flesh.

Timothy lowered his gaze and slowly sat down.
At that moment, he experienced an intensely real sensation.
Susan, who had once only pursued him, now belonged to someone else.
He should have liked Yana, but at this moment, his heart ached as if cut by a knife.
