Chapter 6 She Can Be Different
Valarie saw the words “Gavin Sheppard“, and her heart skipped a beat.
“Shall I answer it?” Jason asked.
“Yes.”
Jason slowly pressed the hands–free button, but he didn’t speak immediately.
“Mr. Dodson, is my wife with you?” Gavin asked in a hoarse voice.
Valarie was furious, offended by the word “wife“. She said, “Mr.
Sheppard, be accurate. I’m your ex–wife now.”
“Megan, sure enough, you’re with him.” Gavin’s voice turned even deeper.
“Or what? Shall I stay at your place till you throw me along with my stuff out?”
Her words were nothing but harsh.
Gavin pulled a long face. “I advise you not to be so impatient. We haven’t gone through the divorce process, and we haven’t got the papers, so you’re still technically my wife. You’d better think about the Sheppard Group and your own reputation.”
“You sent Stacey to live at Tide Villa while we were still married, and you made me sign the papers. Gavin, when you did all those things, did you ever think about me and my reputation?”
Valarie sneered, “I’m just returning the favor. Why should I give a

damn about the Sheppard Group at all? After all, I’m even willing to let her be the CEO’s wife. Ask her to think about the Sheppard Group!”
Jason raised his eyebrows, took the cup, and sipped the tea.
He thought, “This is Valarie from the Dodson family. The sweet, docile wife she appeared to be at the Sheppard’s place for three years was just the persona she displayed for the sake of Gavin.
“My sister is perfect all the time, yet still, I prefer the delicate rose that was once shocking and unrestrained.
“I’m so glad that she’s back.”
“I don’t have the time to bicker with you now.”
Gavin sounded tired. “Grandpa is ill and is in the hospital. He is clamoring to see you and won’t even take his medicine.”
Valarie’s heart trembled a bit,
Though she and Gavin had gone to separate paths, during those three years with the Sheppard family, Leonard was nothing but nice to her. She left with nothing, and she was willing to give up everything, but she couldn’t give up that cute, old man who was as naughty as a urchin.
“He’s at the Dodson Group’s hospital, right? I see. I’ll see Grandpa later.”
Hanging up, Valarie sighed, worried,
“Valarie, I’ll give you a ride,” Jason said tenderly.
“No need. I’m there to see Grandpa, not to stir up trouble. If you send
me there, it will only exacerbate the conflict.”

Valarie waved her hand, her expression obscure. “I’ll drive there myself.”

Gavin and Derek were in the hospital.
They were at the door of Leonard’s ward.
Valarie walked over anxiously. It had just been a few days, yet she could tell at a glance that Gavin had lost a lot of weight.
She thought, “Damn! Why should I give a damn? No matter how he has changed, it won’t be because of me.
“Who cares if he’s alive or not?”
It wasn’t until Gavin and Derek heard heels that they both looked up at her together.
They couldn’t help but be stunned.
Gavin, in particular, could hardly recognize the woman who had been his wife for three years.
“Mr. Ridings, how is Grandpa?” Valarie said to Derek, not even glancing at Gavin.
“Mrs. Sheppard?” Derek was dumbstruck and asked a particularly dumb question.
Her beautiful face with delicate makeup as well as her fiery rosy lips made her look very charming. She wore a black business suit that matched her slender waist and long legs. The ruby butterfly brooch on her chest was dazzling, but not as fascinating as her eyes.
Only then did Valarie realize that she had been in such a hurry that she

had forgotten to turn herself into the docile Megan who always wore a white dress and sneakers.
“Yes, it is me. What is it? Does my new look hurt your eyes?”
“Not at all! Your new look makes you much prettier than before! And with this outfit, you’re even more confident and full of energy,” Derek said truthfully.
“Is that so? Perhaps it’s because I’m divorced.”
Valarie smiled, “Now that I’ve been granted a new life, of course, I look much better.”
Gavin’s face turned gloomy, and he felt irritated. “You sound so overjoyed. Then why did you stick with me for three years?
“I’ve said more than once that if you wanted to break off our engagement, I could always take you to Grandpa. You didn’t have to serve me three years.”
Valarie felt bitter.
She thought, “That’s Gavin. No one gets to change his mind regarding the one he loves, and he never gives a second glance to someone he doesn’t like.
“His coldness and pride attracted me so badly that I plunged into the abyss of love, and therefore I paid an unforgettable price.”
“Since I promised Grandpa, I would stick to it. I said yes to three years, and three years it would be, not even a minute less.
“Yet now, Mr. Sheppard, you’re free. You can bring any woman you want to your place. You don’t have to go out at night and meet your lover secretly anymore,” Valarie smiled coldly, looking stunning.

Gavin felt his throat tight.
He thought, “How come she is like an entirely different person right now? She thinks that now that we’ve separated, she gets to act as she pleases and throws caution to the wind?
“Yet I have to admit that this sharp, prickly woman is a lot more eye- catching than the gentle one she used to be.” Gavin’s usually cold eyes turned obscure.
“Gavin!”
Valarie looked back coldly and saw Stacey hurry to them, accompanied by Louise.
The second Stacey saw Valarie, there was a trace of fierce that flashed across her eyes. Yet soon, it was replaced by tenderness.
“Why are you here?” Gavin asked in surprise.
The second he finished speaking, Stacey threw herself into his arms, wrapping her slender arms around his waist skillfully.
“Why didn’t you tell me about something so big, Gavin? Do you not think of me as yours?”
“Gavin, you have no idea how worried Stacey was when hearing that Leonard had been hospitalized. She had some soup at noon and then threw up…” Louise looked at Stacey pitifully.
“Threw up? Why?” Gavin looked worried.
“Stacey has been having stomach problems. She gets a stomach bug when she’s scared and nervous. We have seen a lot of doctors, and they all said she was fine, but they couldn’t cure her whatsoever,” Louise sighed:

“I’ll get Stacey some other doctors. If no one can cure her, I’ll take her abroad,” Gavin said gently while putting his arms around Stacey’s waist.
Valarie sneered silently. She thought of her stomach disease
recurrence. Back then, she was sweating profusely, and she went to the hospital in distress alone. She didn’t tell Gavin afterward, but when he saw her weak and pale, he never cared to ask.
It turned out that Gavin knew how to love someone.
It was just that in his world, she didn’t deserve his love.
Stacey leaned against Gavin’s arms, smiling gloomily and mockingly at Valarie.
Stacey thought, “Wait!
“Why is she suddenly so different? How come she is so pretty now?
“Isn’t that butterfly brooch she’s wearing the latest creation by Alexa Barrie, the most promising designer in Astheria? It’s worth 830 thousand dollars!
“How does this poor bumpkin afford such luxurious jewelry? How does this bitch get so rich? I’m sure that the butterfly brooch is fake!”
“Gavin, why not let Stacey go in with you and check on Leonard? She has already cried once on the way here, worried sick,” Louise suggested eagerly, ignoring Valarie, the woman who had taken care of their family for three years.
Valarie was indifferent. She didn’t give a damn about Gavin, so why would she care about Louise, the second hostess of the Sheppard family?
Meanwhile, the ward door opened, and Oliver Roland, Leonard’s
secretary, came out
“Mr. Sheppard asked me to come out and see if his granddaughter–in- law was here.
Stacey’s face stiffened with envy
“I’m here, Oliver Valane walked up, anxious.
She no longer cared about manners and called Oliver by his name out of her concerns about Leonard
“Mrs. Sheppard ” Oliver respectfully made a gesture of invitation. “Mr Sheppard invited you and Mr. Gavin to go in.”
Valarie stretched her long legs into the ward without saying anything
Gavin pressed his thin lips and walked in after her.
“Gavin, wait for me…”
Stacey wanted to follow but was coldly stopped by Oliver
“I’m sorry. Mr. Sheppard said he wouldn’t see anyone except his grandson and daughter–in–law. Please leave.”
