Chapter 2 Who’s He?
During dinner, Stacy, as Gavin’s niece, also enjoyed her time with the Sheppard family, except for Gavin himself.
Gavin sat frowning deeply and barely touched his food.
Megan walked out with Jason, leaving everything behind, including her divorce settlement.
“Where’s Megan? Why didn’t she join us for dinner?” Samuel Sheppard, Gavin’s father, asked in confusion.
We’re getting a divorce. We’ve already signed the papers,” Gavin replied, looking down. “We’ll soon complete the divorce procedure.”
Samuel was shocked. “You’re getting a divorce? Why?”
“I told you from the beginning that this marriage wasn’t going to work. Leonard forced us together,” Gavin explained.
Loise Shaw, Gavin’s mother, sighed. “Megan has had a tough time these past few years. It’s for the best that she’s willing to let go. You know Gavin only loves Stacey.”
“Gavin, it’s not just a game. Megan is…” Samuel began.
“Dad, the papers are already signed, and Megan left the house without taking anything with her,” Gavin grumbled.
“Well, that country girl certainly has some courage.”
Grace Sheppard, the third child of the Sheppard family, sneered, “Is she doing this to gain sympathy? I don’t want her spreading rumors
that we mistreated her.”
Grace’s suggestion irritated Gavin.
“Gavin, please consider this carefully Dad is ill. How will you tell him about this news?” Samuel asked, concerned about angering Leonard.
“I’ll tell him the truth. Next month, I’ll publicly announce my engagement to Stacey,” Gavin declared.
Stacey looked lovingly at Gavin’s handsome face.
“How reckless! Once people learn that you’re abandoning your wife so easily, your reputation will be tarnished,” Samuel cautioned.
“I don’t care about my reputation. Megan was never the wife I wanted,” Gavin asserted firmly, showing no hint of regret.
“Samuel, please don’t scold Gavin. It’s my fault,” Stacey interjected.
Stacey leaned on Gavin’s broad shoulder and sobbed, blaming herself. “It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have rekindled things with Gavin… I’ll leave for Merola tomorrow morning. Gavin, you should go back to Megan. I don’t want to be seen as a homewrecker…”
“Stacey, it’s not your fault,” Gavin assured her.
Gavin held Stacey’s delicate hand, his determination unwavering. “Megan and I are finished. I’ve wronged you for the past three years. You don’t need to suffer any longer.‘

The night air was refreshing.
Jason took Valarie to Moon River to lift her spirits. They were enjoying the breathtaking view of the city on a cruise.
“Jaem, it feels like you’re rubbing it in.” Valarie remarked.
Valarie glanced unhappily at the couples around them. “This is a popular dating spot. Normally, I’d avoid this place like the plague.”
“Really? Blame it on Collin. Your dear brother picked this place for the fireworks display. It’s scheduled to start at 8 p.m.”
Jason elegantly checked his watch. “Five, four, three, two, one.”
With a loud bang, a massive purple firework illuminated the entire sky.
All the couples gathered on the deck, and a crowd had formed on the shore.
laste is rather… ordinary,” Valarie shook her head, though she couldn’t help but be moved.
“Think about all the peculiar gifts you’ve received over the years. This one is among the best,” Jason reminded her.
Jason wrapped his arm around Valarie’s shoulders. “There are other gifts. Everyone has prepared one for you, and they’ve filled up your room. Valarie, you have many people who love you. Save your love and time for someone who deserves it.”
Touched, Valarie felt tears welling up in her eyes unexpectedly.
A black Maybach was parked outside the crowd on the shore.
Gavin stepped out of the car, hand in hand with Stacey. Stacey clung to Gavin due to the chilly wind.
“The fireworks are incredible! Look, Gavin!” Stacey exclaimed.
Stacey always acted like a naive girl in front of Gavin, and he loved that about her.
Nepan afquared distant and get in found her cold demeanor
The only posting trait Gavin found in Megan during their three years of marriage was her obedience
But that mount spothing because Megan wasn’t the one he truly desired.
When Cayin and Stacey approached the railing, the next two fireworks burst in the sky, forming two words
Happy birthday
“The fireworks are for someone’s birthday. I wonder who the lucky persion b.” Stacey awed enviously
Suddenly, Gavin’s pupils shrank as his heart was seized for an unknown reason. His lips were pressed into a thin line.
Megan’s birthday had been that day, and the fireworks were possibly arranged by Jason
At that moment, Gavin heard a familiar, melodious voice.
The cruise sailed past them, and Gavin spotted an exceptional couple on the deck. It was Megan and Jason
“Is that Megan? Who’s the man beside her? They look familiar and quite close.” Stacey asked with feigned innocence.
Gavin’s expression darkened as he clutched the railing.
He thought, “I know it.
“We haven’t officially divorced, yet she couldn’t wait to be with another man. Were all those tears this afternoon just an act?!”
The cruise docked after circling the river twice
Jason helped Valarie disembark the cruise, his arm gently supporting her waist as most of the guests departed
“Megan!”
Valarie immediately tensed up
Slowly turning her head in the direction of the shout, Valarie saw Gavin striding toward them. Though his handsome face was occasionally concealed by shadows, she couldn’t help but feel a pull.
But it was futile. She had loved this man for 13 years, yet he had completely shattered her heart. She wouldn’t love him again.
“Who is he?” Gavin’s tone was dark and intimidating.
“Mr. Sheppard, it seems you have a poor memory,” Jason remarked, pulling Valarie closer.
“In the business arena, we have faced off against each other multiple times.”
“Megan, answer my question.” Ignoring Jason, Gavin approached closer.
“We’re no longer married, Mr. Sheppard. It’s none of your business,” Valarie replied curtly.
Gavin’s face fell. He couldn’t believe that the once–meek woman would speak to him in such a cold tone.
“It’s not finalized, yet you can’t wait to be with another man, can you?” Gavin accused.
Valarie thought, “Does he hear himself? He cheated on me first!”
Jason’s gaze darkened as he stepped forward, but Valarie stopped him.
Gavin grew even more furious, convinced that she was defonding Jason.
“Your lover visited our home before our divorce was finalized, I said nothing when she came and took my place, What makes you think you have the right to stop me from finding another man?”
Valarie’s dark hair billowed freely in the wind, her red lips forming a mocking smile. She appeared wild and untamed, yet Gavin found her more stunning than ever. “What? Don’t you think that’s unfair?”
Her words were cutting, and Gavin found himself unable to retort.
Stacey finally caught up with Gavin Seeing that Gavin seemed to have feelings for Megan, she stomped her foot, and her heel broke, causing her to fall harshly.
“Gavin, my ankle hurts!”
Gavin snapped out of his stupor and rushed to help Stacey up.
When he turned around again, Valarie and Jason were long gone.
