Deceptive Appearance And Unseen Romance Chapter 2

Chapter 2 I’m Not A Coward
“I’ll drive you back.” Caden also stood up.

Evelyn gave him a searching look and said, “I’m good.”

Then, she just left.

The moment when she turned around, tears filled her eyes.

She wanted him to feel it was worth waiting for her, so she sacrificed her military career even though she loved being a soldier. However, to her astonishment, he broke up with her.

Did she feel sad, aggrieved, or regretful?

No, she couldn’t have that kind of feeling. She lost both her dream job and love.

She was here because she wanted to marry him, but he was here because he wanted to break up with her.

It was not fair to her.

A tear rolled down her cheek, and she wiped it off. It was her own decision, and she shouldn’t shed a single tear.

She strode towards the parking lot. Before she could see her car, she heard people arguing.

“Eric, don’t you get it? My parents want me to marry a capable man who can help my family’s company. And you are not helpful even in your own family.”

A woman and a man were quarreling, and Evelyn’s car happened to be beside them.

Was it a good day to break up?

Evelyn looked over and knitted her brows.

She saw Eric, the scion famous for being good for nothing in Lavine City.

And he was also the man she had saved from the kidnapper.

“Have you made up your mind?” Eric asked carefully.

Then, his eyelids drooped. A flicker of slyness flashed through his eyes.

“Yes. I’m here today to tell you that my family found me a better boyfriend,” Kassidy Wagner said with a smug expression.

She didn’t seem to be unhappy that her family made the decision for her.

“Is he the heir to the Brilliance Group?” Eric looked up with an upset look.

“Since you’ve heard about it, don’t pester me. No one would like to marry a loser.” Kassidy got together with Eric because of his gorgeous face, but it wouldn’t bring her anything material, so she wanted to break up with him now.

Eric nodded. “Are you sure? Wouldn’t you regret it?”

“Regret it? I will only regret it if I marry you. I thought you were promising, but it turns out you are just a good-for-nothing,” Kassidy sneered. She attached more importance to material comforts than to visual enjoyment.

“What the girl said is humiliating,” Evelyn thought.

She stood there and didn’t know what to do.

“Wish you happy then,” Eric said with a smile.

“Thank you. I hope you pretend that you don’t know me whenever you see me again,” Kassidy said with a look of disgust.

Eric nodded. “Okay.”

Maybe because Evelyn just encountered the same unpleasant thing as he did, she felt bad for him.

Then, they all heard a car horn.

The person who h onked it seemed impatient.

They turned to look in the direction of the sound and saw a car by the roadside. A man leaned out of the window. “Ka ss, hurry up.”

It turned out that Kassidy didn’t come here alone.

“Kassidy, can’t you show me some respect?” Eric gave a faint smile.

“Why should I? You are a loser in all Laviners’ eyes.” Kassidy turned around and walked towards the car by the roadside.

She didn’t have the least attachment to Eric.

Eric curled his lip and continued standing there for a long while.

Then, he grabbed Evelyn’s arm when she walked past him. “Will you marry me?”

“What?” Evelyn was confounded.

“Marry me.” Evelyn looked up at her with red-rimmed eyes. He seemed to have been hurt.

Evelyn was about to push him away when she found someone was staring at them.

She wanted to upset the person, so she sneered and responded, “Okay.”

“Are you sure?” Eric asked. He didn’t expect her to agree so soon.

“Yes,” Evelyn said as looking at Caden.

“How about today? Let’s make it quick.” Eric looked at her with a flirtatious smile. He didn’t recognize Evelyn.

Evelyn glanced at Caden, who was not far away from them, and nodded. “Okay.”

“Then I’ll see you at the city hall at 4 this afternoon.” Eric didn’t want to give himself any chance to go back on his word.

“Are you sure you won’t stand me up?” Evelyn looked at him.

It made no difference to her since she couldn’t marry the person she loved.

“I never broke my promise. Now, go get ready.” Eric extended his hand.

Evelyn didn’t understand so stared at his palm.

“Why are you just standing there? Give me your phone.” Eric frowned and wondered if he would marry a slow person.

“All right.” Evelyn didn’t think much. She unlocked her phone and handed it to him.

Eric dialed a number. Hearing her phone ring, he returned it to her. “I’ll call you.”

“Well, don’t you think you should ask if I have a boyfriend?” Evelyn thought he was too hasty, but she was more anxious than him.

“Do you?” Eric asked.

Evelyn shook her head. “No.”

However, her ex-boyfriend was stepping towards them.

“There you go. I’ll see you in this afternoon,” Eric said and got in the car beside her car.

Right after Eric left, Caden rushed over and grabbed Evelyn’s wrist.

“Eve, who is he?” Caden asked with anxiety.

“It’s none of your business.” Evelyn shook his hand away and thought, “You are not my boyfriend anymore. Why do you bother to ask?”

Caden opened his mouth and couldn’t say a word.

He could only watch her get in her car and leave.

Evelyn stared at Caden through the rearview mirror. She was dying inside. They had been together for five years. Even though they couldn’t see each other most of the time, he was the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.

Now, they didn’t end up well.

She hoped he could be happy with his present girlfriend.

And she didn’t want him to show up in her world anymore.

There were not many people in the city hall. Evelyn arrived first.

She hesitated when she was standing at the door.

She wasn’t so sure about the marriage.

After all, he didn’t have a good reputation in Lavine City.

However, her hesitation disappeared when she saw Eric.

“I thought you would chicken out,” Eric said to her. Now, he was a little interested in her.

Evelyn smiled. “I’m not a coward.”
