Chapter 83 The Image of a Loving Father  “Why, you. Gwyneth, what are you talking about?” Gaspard cautiously spoke, feeling somewhat guilty. As he retorted, he subtly glanced at  Liam.  “What I’m trying to say is that ever since I moved out a few years ago, our father–daughter relationship ended,” Gwyneth held her arms and spoke each word with precision. She resisted acknowledging she was a part of the Glen family with every word she said, with her body rigid and her expression uninterested.  However, only Liam and Wanda could sense that Gwyneth’s words were like a knife wielded against herself.  “Mr. Glen, if I were you, I would have stayed far away and not pulled any feelings.” Gwyneth said. Her hands were firmly clenched into fists.  “Stop pretending!”  Her last sentence was not loud, but it carried a weight that made Gaspard’s body tremble. He did not anticipate Gwyneth to say such  words to him in a public setting. He intended to act in front of Liam. But now, he did not need to act like a loving father as his anger surged.  At this moment, Judy, at the side, watched things develop. She almost successfully grabbed Liam’s arm. Yet, looking at his displeased  face, she hesitated and spoke softly, “Liam. Look at Gwyneth. She has absolutely no manners. She’s talking back to her father just like that.  Judy deliberately spoke in a low tone, causing Gwyneth unable to hear what she was saying, but Elizabeth could.  Judy’s only reason for attending the auction today was that she knew Liam was present. Now that she has encountered such an opportunity, how could she not take advantage of it?  Judy just spoke her mind, all of it, not minding if it was alright to say it or not. It was best il she succeeded in letting Liam feel disgusted with Gwyneth and divorced her.  Elizabeth did not know Judy’s intentions or the means she would employ. But Gwyneth was a thorn in her flesh; getting rid of it would never be wrong. Lowering her head, Elizabeth subtly glanced around before passing by Judy and took a step forward.  “Although it’s not my place as an outsider to speak, Ms. Glen, you, as a junior, should stop talking and save yourself from laughter,” Elizabeth’s words seemed like she smoothened the atmosphere. But in fact, she was highlighting Gwyneth’s ignorance and immaturity.  This was probably where everyone kicks a man when he’s down. But these people got it wrong. Gwyneth snorted. She still stood here; a  few words could never tear her down.  Several people gathered in a circle, each hiding their thoughts. This situation has started to look strange. At this moment, in the corner of  the exhibition hall, the head of the Glacier Lake project started the project’s introduction.  Tired of continuing the confrontation, Gwyneth straight up remained silent. She did not even glance at Liam before walking directly toward the corner of the Glacier Lake project with Wanda.  Once Gwyneth left, only a group of people remained, each staring at one another dumbfounded. Gaspard pondered for a moment, looking at Liam. He thought about when he called himself Liam’s father–in–law, Liam did not resist nor refute. There was still a chance for him.  Although Gaspard looked down on Gwyneth, it would be great if she could help him win over Liam. He could not be the one to approach Liam in this matter. Neither his status nor seniority would make sense. Aller considering it carefully, he decided to count on Judy.  The father and daughter seemed to have the same idea. After a few seconds of eye contact, they reached an agreement.  *Liam, look at Gwyneth’s temper. How could she leave like that? Even after all these years, she hasn’t changed much. Please don’t take offense,” Gaspard said. He walked in front of Liam, hands jostling each other, his face filled with a smile.  This was the image of a loving father who wanted Liam, the husband, to tolerate Gwyneth’s temper. Although Liam was silent the entire time, he did not miss the expression on the faces of these people. Hearing Gaspard trying to play the role of Gwyneth’s father, he felt sorry for her. At last, he could not help it and chuckled. The corner of his lips raised, showing a fake smile. He clasped his arms and gently shook his head without saying a word.  Not one was sure of Liam’s expression. To say the least, they did not understand Liam at all. Not just Gaspard and Judy, even Elizabeth did not know what was happening in Liam’s mind..  After exchanging glances, they could not come to any delinite conclusion. And an awkward silence filled the air.  Judy tilted her head and was lost in thought as she watched Liam’s sharp profile. After snapping back to reality, she immediately cleared  her throat, covering up her previous awkwardness.  “How about checking out the projects? Is there anything worth investing in? Anything that interests you?“

Chapter 82 A Drama with a Few People  Seeing Gaspard’s snappy behavior, Gwyneth only felt irritated by him. She was genuinely baffled at why he would humiliate her publicly. thinking it would make him look good.  Catching a glimpse of Gaspard’s attempt to retort, she only found it funny. She turned around, ready to leave. To her surprise, Gaspard got his tongue–tied, but he got quick hands and grabbed her arm.  “Mr. Glen. What is the meaning of this?”  Gwyneth turned around to stare at Gaspard. Her once defiant smile was now gone, and her expression darkened.  Everyone in the area began to whisper, making various comments. Ultimately, they were all watching and looking for entertainment. These people might not even remember what was wrong or right once they walked through that door.  At this moment, Liam noticed the ruckus and walked over with Elizabeth behind. Liam’s gaze had always been on Gwyneth. Many approached him after he entered the exhibition hall and gave him their business cards and partnership proposals. Therefore, when Liam  looked back at Gwyneth’s original spot, she was nowhere to be found.  After searching Gwyneth for a while and seeing a crowd gathered here, Liam hurriedly walked over. As expected, it was his perpetually in- the–limelight wife.  “Liam…” Gaspard was the first who notice Liam’s approach. He hurriedly let go of Gwyneth’s arm and smiled brightly. On the other hand, Gwyneth took a quick look at Liam and furrowed her brows even more. She did not like Liam witnessing her entanglement with her family. She could not explain the feeling; it was just an inexplicable emotion.  “Liam, why don’t you look at her? I, your father–in–law, was just talking to her about family, and look at her attitude. This will never do!”  Gaspard’s self–proclaimed father–in–law almost gave Gwyneth goosebumps. He was willing to go to such lengths to gain some benefit. even if it meant sacrificing his dignity. She admired him for that.  Meanwhile, Judy, who had been following Gaspard, approached. Her eyes fixed on Liam, pursing her lips, and her mind active since he approached. “Gwyneth, even though this is a public occasion, Daddy is still Daddy. You can’t disown him, right?”  For Judy, it was best if Gwyneth never stepped foot into the Glen family. Right now, to attract Liam’s attention, it was easy to say a few words against her heart. It was not enough just talking to him. Judy walked passed Gaspard and stood in front of Liam.  Gwyneth did not feel anything about the current situation. But Elizabeth, who was standing beside him, was unhappy. Her brows furrowed, wanting to take a step ahead. However, it was still a public occasion, and Elizabeth hesitated to stand close to Liam. The original standing position already had a person’s distance between them. Elizabeth could not believe that this woman directly stood between them.  Judy noticed Elizabeth’s movements and expression, but she did not bother. The fact was that she wanted to find out whose side Liam would be on when they fought. She was confident that Liam would be on her side in her heart.  Among the tumultuous actions of these women, they did not expect Liam’s gaze not to meet them. Just as before, after seeing Gwyneth. his gaze only focused on her. All the voices and personnel around him gradually faded into the background, and only one person remained before him.  Liam was not familiar with the Glen family’s internal conflict and history. He only had a rough guess and understanding of it. He learned it the last time he helped Gwyneth investigate Gaspard’s sale of company information. At this moment, amid this confrontation, Liam knew exactly who was right and wrong. Remaining silent, Liam wanted to see how his sharp–tongued wife would resolve this situation.  On the other side, Wanda had never seen such an intense almosphere before. She was momentarily stunned, taking a few seconds to react. Taking a step forward, she moved her mouth, wanting to speak up for Gwyneth.  But, in the current family dispute of the Glen lamily, what could she possibly say? Or rather, would speaking up make any difference?  Wanda pursed her lips tightly. In the end, she chose to stay quiet.  This drama created by these few people had indeed liven things up, but Gwyneth had enough. She was never high–profile. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been until recently that her role as the chairman of AMC became known. Her patience was wearing thin as she observed this situation.  She scanned around and looked at Gaspard’s face. After being silent for two seconds, she let out a cold laugh. “Mr. Glen. It seems you’re getting older, and your memory has truly deteriorated.”  Liam observed Gwyneth’s expression, his eyes narrowing slightly as a spark of fire flickered within them. 

Chapter 81 A Daughter  After a while, the auction started on time when the lights in the hall suddenly dimmed. The incandescent lights turned on above the stage were dazzling to the eyes. Gwyneth frowned. If possible, she did not want to attend such an event. During Gwyneth’s days in AMC, Wesley was the one who helped her in these events. Come to think of it, Gwyneth realized how easy she had it back then.  The host walked slowly to the stage as the lighting gradually adjusted back to normal. Gently testing the microphone, the host was obviously nervous. It was understandable; everyone in the audience was influential. The host might offend someone with just one word  and ruin their career.  After the official opening, the host’s assistant began to show the various projects and sites up for auction. Glacier Lake and Emerald Trails  Project was saved for last, which was what Gwyneth and Gaspard were paying attention to.  Gaspard did not enter with Gwyneth but came with some business partners he had worked together. He was seated not far from Gwyneth, and his gaze remained fixed on the stage throughout.  “I have finished my introduction for all the projects,” The host visibly let out a sigh of relief. The lights at the next door of the auction hall  suddenly lit up. “Following up on the agenda, I invite all the heads of each corporation to check out the models of the various site.”  As the words fell, everyone stood and walked toward the exhibition hall. “Reminder for everyone to mind their steps. There are experts in  charge of providing more explanations per each model.”  The host’s voice constantly sounded behind them, making Wanda chuckle softly.  “What’s wrong?” Noticing Wanda’s emotions, Gwyneth slowed down her steps and asked softly.  “Nothing. It’s just a little weird. Why is the host of the official event so cowardly?”  Wanda’s question amused Gwyneth, and she laughed. “Oh, silly. Do you really think they are officials? The officials would never put  themselves in the spotlight.”  Hearing what Gwyneth had said, Wanda blinked her eyes, seemingly confused.  “During auctions, pre–auction phrases are the easiest to bob up problems. So, the officials try to circumvent it as much as possible.”  “So…”  “So, they would find people from the hosting venue to take the blame.”  Wanda could not help but shudder hearing Gwyneth’s explanation. Things here are a lot darker than she imagined. As the two talked, they reached the exhibition hall. Gwyneth slightly raised her head and saw Gaspard and Judy.  Gwyneth recalled the previous company meeting, where they intended to choose a representative. She remembered Gaspard stayed far away, not wanting to take the job. He stated he was busy and might not arrive at the scene. So what was the situation now? Not only did he arrive on time, but he also brought his business partners and even Judy along.  Gwyneth crossed her arms and let out a disdainful snort. ‘Gaspard has already passed his prime, yet he continued to speak in a way that kept undermining himself. Won’t he feel embarrassed and awkward if we bumped into each other?”  Disgusted, Gwyneth felt a wave of nausea rising. She pulled Wanda and walked to the side.  Gaspard was observing Gwyneth when she was sizing him up. Realizing her obvious ignorance of him, his expression instantly turned cold. Everyone knew he was Gwyneth’s father in these public settings. Why did it make him look like now Gwyneth had acquired the  company and even ignored her father?  Gritted his teeth, Gaspard instructed his companions and walked toward her. “Gwyneth…”  Hearing the voice behind her, Gwyneth sighed helplessly. She really hoped Wesley was here. Turning back, she raised her eyebrows and saw Gaspard standing before her.  “Is there something wrong. Mr. Glen? I thought you had to attend to other matters and would not be here.”  If Gaspard wanted to pick a fight, it would be better if she started it first. Clearly, Gaspard did not expect Gwyneth to take the initiative to  rise. He touched his nose, coughing hard to cover up his embarrassment.  “Gwyneth, I am your father, after all. Why don’t you greet me after seeing me?”  As the two began to converse, many people surrounding them turned toward them. Family matters placed within a business setting would always attract attention as fresh gossip. Gaspard’s words implied that Gwyneth was unfilial. Not only did she take over the company, but she also even denied her father.  The people present all understood these subtle intentions. Gwyneth, too, was well aware of it. Smiling, she crossed her arms, seemingly not noticing the whispers around her. “Mr. Glen, it seems you may have forgotten the occasion. Where are we now? Who is the one disrespecting others by publicly speaking about family matters?” 

Chapter 80 Betting for the Same Project  Gwyneth raised her eyebrows and scanned Elizabeth. Elizabeth dressed up meticulously and attended to every detail from the tip of her  hair to her toes.  While Gwyneth, on the other hand, just wore a decent gown; dressing up was something she never paid attention to. If Wanda had not insisted she wore this gown, she would have probably worn her daily casual wear here. Thinking back to what Elizabeth said earlier, this woman was not afraid to speak her mind.  “Thank you for the compliment, Miss Lisle,” Gwyneth replied and withdrew her hand. Just as she wanted to leave, Elizabeth continued.  “Ms. Glen, who are you representing today? Glen Corporation? If so, how is AMC’s situation?”  As expected, another immature question. Gwyneth turned her head, ignored Elizabeth, and left her in an awkward position.  It was a complicated and awkward situation for Elizabeth. She could not continue the conversation or stop talking. At last, she glanced at  Liam’s cold expression and decided to keep quiet.  “Wanda, how many auction items were pre–marked today?” Gwyneth kept herself busy by discussing with Wanda about today’s auction after ignoring Elizabeth.  “Ms. Glen. During the company’s meetings, we decided to bid without limit if the project was worthy,” Wanda replied helplessly, going through the bidding list. Her expression was seemingly blaming why Gwyneth had such bad memories.  *Tsk Tsk Tsk. What an audacious move. Should I just bid them all since there’s no limit?” Gwyneth shrugged her shoulders. Her tone was nothing like the chairman of Glen Corporation but rather more like a competitor.  Who would possibly complain about expanding their business? That was precisely how Gwyneth was behaving.  As Gwyneth was talking, she was also observing the people around her. The people who attended the auction had their intentions written  all over their faces, yet they still acted superior. It was rather funny to Gwyneth when she came to think about it.  Besides that, Gwyneth spoke openly for the old hags in Glen Corporation to hear. Thinking back to the early stage of the auction, the people in the marketing department and the shareholder were all trying to persuade her to bid for more land during the meeting. They just  wanted to wipe her out and take advantage of her situation.  Liam, sitting beside them, heard their entire conversation and found it amusing. The amusement was not about the content of the auction but about Gwyneth. Up until now, they lived in the same house. But aside from work and mealtimes, they hardly ever talked. Not to mention hearing Gwyneth discuss matters in her CEO tone.  “There are a few newly launched projects this year. But the locations aren’t desirable, so you should stay cautious.”  Liam’s sudden advice had Gwyneth and Wanda momentarily stunned. They had eye contact and did not know what to reply to him. Although these conglomerates appeared jovial deep down, they were seething with resentment. The chairman of Luther Corporation’s sudden interjection made them afraid.  Hearing Liam’s comment on the projects, Elizabeth, sitting on the side, could not contain herself. She took a proposal from her bag, which she had asked Porter to sneak in. “Mr. Luther, the bidding for this land is quite promising. It has the officials‘ support and is a popular  tourist attraction.”  Elizabeth’s words caught Gwyneth’s attention, causing her eyebrows to raise. Elizabeth was clearly referring to Glacier Lake. ‘Could Liam be interested in this project too?‘ With that thought in mind, Gwyneth slightly narrowed her eyes and looked at Liam in confusion.  Gwyneth believed that Liam did not have to do it to such lengths. He was the one who introduced the project to Mr. Curington. It would not make sense for him to compete with her for this project. She looked at Liam again and spoke without waiting for Wanda to finish..  “There’s no need for you to interfere or get involved. As for the project proposal, how did you bring it in?”  Liam would never show any favoritism to anyone toward the issues regarding business. Liam’s sudden cold indifference startled Elizabeth. She had to try every possible way to persuade Porter to hand her the proposal. The reason was to interact with Liam in such settings and prove her abilities.  However, she did not expect her efforts to backfire, receiving criticism instead of praise, Elizabeth pursed her lips, and her eyes welled up with tears, but Liam acted like he had seen nothing.  Her crying act made no difference to the situation. So Elizabeth put the proposal back and stayed quiet.  Gwyneth gave a light laugh in her heart as she watched the two interact. Sure enough, Elizabeth looked more like herself when acting pitiful.
