Chapter Thirty Reuben POV I was struggling to sleep. Just knowing Evelyn and my daughter were in the next rooms kept messing with my mind. It also wasn’t easy having, technically, enemy warriors sleeping in my pack houses. My Alpha King senses were in overload readying to defend against an attack. It would seem Evelyn couldn’t sleep either. I hear her soft footsteps walking down the stairs, no doubt checking on pretty boy. When I came back from my final boundary check, I found him asleep on the kitchen table. I wasn’t going to wake him, to encourage him to go up to bed with Evelyn. This was my pack, my house and she was still my wife. The thought of them having sex next door made me feel sick. After several minutes, I could hear her creep back up the stairs and then carry Elspeth down. Elspeth seemed still deep in sleep judging by her peaceful and steady heartbeat. Why was she taking her downstairs? She was acting anxious, nothing would touch them on my pack…it would be the best night’s sleep they’ve had in a long time. I finally start to drift off to sleep when one of my men on night patrol pushes on my mind–link. “Alpha?” “What’s wrong?” I had asked them to contact me with any strange activity, no matter how trivial it may seem. We had warriors on site that were from another pack, all usual rules were out the window tonight. “Alpha Evelyn has left in a car.” “What?” I sit up right, why would she leave now? “Do you want us to follow her Alpha?” My man asks. “No, leave it to me!” I command before cutting the link and leaping out of bed. I head downstairs to find Noah asleep at the kitchen table with little feet stretched out on his lap.– As I enter the room more I see Elspeth laying across two chairs, strategically placed so that the first one to wake will automatically wake the other! For the first time I can see the child properly. She was always hiding her face behind that large bunny teddy, or being carried by Noah or Evelyn. Seeing her truly for the first time, now knowing what she was to me. She was then most beautiful creature that had ever walked on this planet. Her white blonde hair partly covered her face…sticking to her as she snored gently. Her eyes were shut but she also had the same eyes as Evelyn. Evelyn wouldn’t know this but she had the same nose and mouth as my mother, a cute little button nose. But, just like her mother, I had the feeling Elspeth would push my limits. It angered my wolf that she called Noah daddy. I found myself growing more jealous by the hour of their closeness, a bond that Evelyn chose to take from me. The front door opens gently and Cassandra walks into the kitchen, gasping when she finds me in the dark. “Alpha….” “Where did she go?” I growl annoyed that Cassandra had assisted her. “She found an email, it said to come alone.” “Where’s the email?” “On the laptop!” She points at the laptop that had been closed but when I opened it, it was only on power save mode. Damn, it was password protected. “Noah?” I grunt, pushing his shoulder. “Hhmm!” He moans, the prick. “Wake up.” I slap the top of his head, that ought to do it. He springs into action, openings his eyes and putting his glasses on. “What’s the password?” I say as I grab the laptop and sit down on a chair. “Like I’d tell you!” He scoffs, finally looking down to see Elspeth asleep across him. He looks up at me and then Cassandra, concern in his eyes. “She’s gone. There was an email, to come alone….” Cassandra states looking down at the child across his lap. Her expression was odd, I couldn’t quite make it out. “Gone where?” He growls at her. Chapter Twenty–Nine  Evelyn POV I followed the satnav in my pack car which took me around an hour’s drive away to some kind of human industrial estate. We had similar buildings near the Silver Moon pack grounds. That’s how I managed to get the medical equipment first, the company’s warehouse facility was close by. I applied some friendly pressure to the business owner and soon enough had the best equipment going. He even takes me out for dinner every business quarter as one of his best buyers. Parking up, I walk around the warehouse building. Nobody was waiting for me outside, so I looked for a way in. Dawn was fast approaching and having driven for an hour already, I didn’t have any more time to waste. I needed Rex back now safely in my arms. I wasn’t sure how soon after leaving Cassandra would have woken Noah, who would have seen the address on the email, and could also be on his way. But they wanted me to come alone. If he turns up with Donnie, I’ve got no chance of finding out where Rex may be. A slight issue which hopefully I could get away with… this was wolf territory. I could feel the pull for me to leave as soon as I exited the car. I wasn’t meant to be here, I didn’t have the alpha’s permission to be here. Did this pack have my child? I found an unlocked door, which needed replacing as it was loose and not very secure. Surely a holding facility needed better security?  As I entered the warehouse the hairs on the back of my neck prick up. This was an abandoned warehouse…this wasn’t good. Now I realise my choice of coming here alone perhaps wasn’t a good one. Scattered around the place was empty boxes and broken glass on the floor. I look up to see the windows had been smashed in. Most likely from teenagers throwing rocks but it still added an uneasy vibe to the place. Lightbulbs hadn’t been replaced and even part of the roof looked damaged, perhaps from a storm. I didn’t want to be here but I needed to remember that my little boy was trying to be brave for mummy and I had to be brave for him. It won’t be much longer sweetie, until mummy never lets. you go again. Just keep staying positive. I walk around more, trying to find any clues that someone was here…any information on whose pack lands I was trespassing on. I start to walk up some steps that were just as derelict, the entire space needed repairing. A lot of these places have offices upstairs away from the packing floor, perhaps some information was in there. Once I reach the top, even for me…a werewolf, it was dark and creepy. I pull my phone out of my jean pocket and switch the torch mode on. It offers a good extra glow of light, complimenting my wolf’s night vision ability. By the looks of things, this place hadn’t been used in years. Cobwebs and layers of dust decorated the walls and ceiling, which gave off a damp smell. I look through the offices, empty! Nobody was here. I head back down the steps into the old pack area. Wanting to preserve my phone’s battery, I turn the torch off and place it back into my jean pocket. The hairs on the back of my neck were standing up again and my senses shout at me to turn around. As I do, I scream to find a pair of eyes in the darkness. Eyes that were determined to try and scare me off, but I wouldn’t leave…not yet! “Where is my son?” I order, trying to keep my hands hidden. They were involuntarily shaking. “Did you come alone?” A hoarse male’s voice grunts back at me. “That’s what the email requested, so that’s what I did!“. “Just yes would have done!” He growls at me, before taking heavy threatening steps towards me. “Get out!” My wolf shouts in my mind and I want to agree with her but not until I know what he wanted. “Why am I here? Where is my son?” I firmly ask. He doesn’t answer. His lips form an evil looking smirk as he stops right in front of me. Just when I think he is about to speak again, his hands are thrusted around my neck, around my throat. I claw at his hands, trying to remove them from my throat. His tightening hold now cutting off my air supply. He lifts me up, my feet hanging…no longer touching the floor. My clawing at him becomes more desperate…I could smell his blood from my nails digging into the back of his hands. With an almighty smack, he drops me to the ground. I can feel my ribs breaking under the impact and my skull screaming at me to pass out…to give into the black dots that now dance in my vision.

Chapter Twenty–Eight Evelyn POV “Your mate?” I ask through the mind–link. “Yes, I can smell her scent. It’s here in the house! It’s a new scent.” “What does it smell like?” I sniff the air, all I could smell was Reuben’s sweet leathery scent. “Lemon drizzle cake…” “Lemon drizzle cake?” I laugh through the mind–link. “I don’t know, it’s lemony with a touch of sugar.” His cheeks start to blush. Shouldn’t I be jealous? I didn’t feel jealous at all. Not like I was when Vicky placed her hand on Reuben’s shoulder. I wanted to twist her wrist and hear it snap for touching him. A jealousy rising within me like a volcano preparing the explode. It must be more of her than of Reuben. My hatred towards her, my wolf confusing intense dislike for jealousy. (1 “Each of my alphas have been informed and are going to report of any unusual activity, should they find any.” Reuben walks in followed by Nate and Donnie forcing me to cut mine and Noah’s mind–link conversation. “What’s wrong?” He looks at me with furrowed eyebrows. “Nothing, do you have someone new here?” “Only Cassandra why? She’s on loan from the Blue Moon pack to help Michelle around the alpha home.” “The Blue Moon pack?” I stand up, flabbergasted that they were still liaising with the Red Stone pack. I was confident in my approach to Alpha Ivo that he no longer needed to deal with the Red Stone pack. So why did he send help for the alpha house if they were on bad terms. “You stole them, it’s the least they could do!” Vicky enters, rolling her eyes and huffing at me. My blood kept boiling every time she entered the room, every time I heard her clicky high heels. “Do you want to meet her?” I ask Noah through the mind–link. “No…” He responds instantly. “Nows not the right time.” “Then it’s time to leave.” I stand, placing my hand out to Elspeth for her to take. “We will head back to our pack. If you hear of anything, let us know immediately!”  “Your leaving?” Reuben takes a step towards me and Elspeth. “I can help, let me help…” He mutters under his breath. “Reuben if she wants to go, let her go! I don’t see why we need to use our resources for the enemy’s lost boy!” She sneers as she perches herself up against the side of his desk. (1 She was vile.  “He isn’t lost, he was stolen!” Noah seethes through gritted teeth. “Whatever…” She waves her hands at Noah as if it was just a small tiny detail. “Stay for one night, if we receive any news in the night you will get it instantly. Otherwise you won’t get it until the morning and it will be too late to act on it!” Reuben offers but I hesitate, I never thought I would be back here. Let alone staying the night. I look to Noah who just shrugs, basically letting me decide. “You can have your old rooms, they are still available. You can…” He clenches his hands into fists and takes a deep gulp. “Share them together, the three of you.” “I don’t know…” “I’ll get some clothes fetched for Elspeth…” Things were changing rapidly, I didn’t really know how I felt about staying here overnight, returning to my old rooms. Knowing she and him shared a room. “Véry well…” I nod my head, agreeing only for one night. “Vicky go tell Michelle and Cassandra to prepare the room!” He orders at Vicky and she flashes her eyes at me. Oh yes, talking to the help was below Vicky. I couldn’t sleep, not without my sweet boy close by. Elspeth was sharing the bed with me and Noah had said he would do some more research as I settle Elspeth and then sleep on the floor in the bedroom. Miss Smith and the warriors had been put up in the spare pack houses and I had got a message to the Silver Moon pack to update them with our overnight stop. I head downstairs, wanting to know if Noah had found anything of importance.

Chapter Twenty–Seven  Evelyn POV Reuben was inhaling on a cigarette when he starts to choke on his own breath. Coughing as he starts to regain his steady flow of oxygen…or poison. I always hated it when he smoked. “You fucking what?” “The pregnancy….it wasn’t Noah’s, they are yours.” I keep my voice steady, trying to show no sign of emotions. For four years they had been mine, only mine. Now I was opening up their world. He moves quickly, taking me off guard. He pushes me up against the wall, pinning me under his body by holding my covered shoulders. His face was almost touching mine, I could smell the cigarette on his breath. The anger burning off his eyes was so intense that my wolf was preparing to shift. “Get off me!” I seethe. “You took my children away from me? The girl, she’s mine too?” He snarls, looking down into my face, pure anger emitting off from his touch. His once light blue piercing eyes seemed to be permanently dark blue, as if he was suppressing a long standing anger from his wolf. “They are mine….” I growl menacingly. I start to push him off me but he manages to grab my arms and places them above my head. Tingles that I hadn’t felt for so long start to dance on my skin. He places his knee in–between my thighs, pushing his body in even closer to me. His nose touching mine, his warm breath touching my lips. “Get off me!” I growl slowly, yet my wolf weirdly was enjoying this closeness to this monster. “Where is he?” He seethes at me. “That’s why I am here, you took him!” His eyes narrow against mine before they dip down to my lips. “Like I said, I’m not the monster you think I am sweetheart.” He pushes himself off me and I see him stretch out his hands, did he feel the same tingles? “Why? Why didn’t you tell me?” “I did what I needed to do to protect my baby at the time.” I close my eyes from the memories of being pushed for the stairs by Vicky and him rushing to her aid, believing her. That I pushed her out of jealousy. Lopen my eyes to find that he has watched me with a frown on his face. “I was never cruel to you Evelyn, what a load of bollocks.” 1 “I’m not doing this again Reuben. What’s been has past. They are mine….” He cuts me off with an almighty roar. “They are mine…if you don’t know where my son is, then I will leave!” I meet his roar, I was an alpha too. I head to the office door. I wasn’t going to defend my actions from four years ago with him. Not when he sided with the female that pushed me down the stairs. “Wait….” His voice takes on a slightly gentler tone to it. “…he is my son. I will help you.” “I don’t need….” “You’ve clearly made an enemy out of someone and my son is feeling their wrath. You’ve failed to protect him…” “Fuck you!” I open the door and slam it shut, letting my aggression towards him get the better of me. I glance towards the sitting room as I walk out and find Noah, Donnie, Nate and Vicky sat in silence. All their heads whip up as they watch me storm out of the house. Noah and Donnie are next to me in a flash as we walk towards my wartiors, towards Elspeth who was still protected in the middle. “Evelyn…wait!” He grips my elbow and pulls me back into his chest. “Don’t leave, let me help you!” “Mummy!” Elspeth breaks free and pushes through the warriors legs. She reaches me and I pick her up and place her on my hip. Reuben looks at Elspeth in my arms. His hand moves forward to touch her on her face but is stopped when Noah’s growl of warning echo’s through the courtyard. “Who is he?” Elspeth whispers into my ear. “I’m Reuben, I’m going to help find your brother.” He whispers to Elspeth. “He talked about you, said you were a strong alpha.” She looks at Reuben slightly apprehensive. “Is that so?” “Daddy?” She reaches out to Noah, who takes her in his arms. Reuben’s eyes flash with anger from his own daughter calling another male, daddy. “Come back inside at least. Let me call some contacts, see if there is any intel you have missed?” He offers to me, a slight plea in his voice. “Reuben?” Vicky half laughs. “The Silver Moon pack are welcome here at the Red Stone pack. You are to treat them with respect!” He orders out loudly to his warriors and pack members before he places his hand out to gesture for me to re–enter the house.

Chapter Twenty–Six Reuben POV “Is she lying?” I ask my wolf instantly. “No, she’s an alpha alright! She’s keeping her aura hidden but it’s strong.” He responds to me. “Fuck! A female alpha!” I growl to him. Vicky starts laughing from shock, as if Evelyn has just slapped her across the face. “Excuse me?” Vicky snarls, as she takes a step towards the Silver Moon pack. The warriors buff at their chests, not appreciating Vicky taking a step closer. “I suppose you are the Beta?” I spit out at Noah. “Yes, amongst other things…” He smirks in response to me. What the fuck did that mean? That they were mates? But Candice was right, she still didn’t bear his mark. Was still being married to me preventing her from bearing his mark? Jealously rises from the pit of my stomach, a motion I wasn’t used to. As Alpha King, what I want, I get. Yet I seemed envious of this beta. Wait, if Evelyn is the Alpha…the boy I met… Rex was it? He said he was the alpha’s son and future alpha. Was he Evelyn’s son? Did she have twins with Noah… “You, you’re the one that has been forming an alliance against me, against this pack?” I growl, taking a step closer but it is met with hostility by her warriors. They all start to lean forward on the balls of their feet, preparing to pounce, whilst elongating their backs. “Yes!” She only answers, her voice cold and very matter of fact. “Why?”  O H “I have my reason…I’m sure you remember!” Her growl is demonic, like something born from the depths of hell. What does that mean? She was the one that left me, that abandoned her position as Luna. She continues like a Queen that is bored of small talk. She holds her hand up to calm her warriors before willingly walking towards me. “In private! My men will remain out here.” She commands and I have to hide a smirk from my wolf finding her assertiveness surprisingly sexy. She was certainly acting like an alpha, an alpha with big balls. She walks straight into the alpha house as if she still lived here. My chest rattles as Noah and Donnie walk past me to join Evelyn. As Noah enters the house he freezes for a moment, sniffing the air before swiftly following his alpha. “Nate!” I order at my beta to join us as Vicky already starts to join the Silver Moon Alpha in the house. With one last gaze at the Silver Moon warriors I order to my men that they are to remain unharmed unless they provoke us. “Well this is a turn up for the books Evelyn, we all thought you were dead!” Vicky icily says, making no mistake in informing the female alpha how her sudden reappearance was a surprise. “Really? Reuben trespassed on to my pack just over a week ago. Surely he informed you of my resurrection, no?” Evelyn glares at Vicky, who was standing next to me as I sat at my desk. Evelyn was seated in the chair opposite me while her Beta and Head Warrior stand either side of her. Vicky’s face pulls as if she was in pain from Evelyn’s admission and I can smell some blood from her digging her nails into the palms of her now clenched hands. “You’ve asked the Alpha King for a meeting, so here we are?” Nate, who was standing on my left, crosses his arms and starts to act like a dick. “Careful Nate, she is still the Luna…” I reprimand him through the mind–link. “She’s an alpha now, of an opposing pack that has been stealing packs from us. She isn’t the Luna Sir, she’s not been the Luna

Chapter Twenty–Five Evelyn POV I wanted to leave immediately but I needed to be clever, I needed to make sure everything was planned correctly. My warriors were ready to go after a hearty breakfast and I made it very clear there would be no stopping, that we would drive straight. Only stopping to refuel the cars. The Red Stone pack was several hours away and I was hoping to get there just after midday. Having taken a quarter of the warriors with me, I called upon the neighbouring pack that was part of the alliance to lend their warriors to help defend my borders. My wolf was anxious that we didn’t leave our pack members vulnerable and she was right, we needed to plan meticulously. My biggest debate was whether to take Elspeth with us or not. Noah wanted her to stay here but I just wouldn’t be able to function as a strong alpha without her near me. With Rex taken, I needed her close. We took six large SUV cars. Five had the warriors in and our car leading the convoy had me, Elspeth, Noah and Donnie. The drive was horrendous, it was the longest journey of my life and my wolf was struggling to stay still. She was making me fidgety and it was Elspeth who kept her calm by reminding her that Rex was safe and well. I never thought I would be back here, back on these grounds. I didn’t need Donnie to announce we were close by, I knew instantly when we had reached the surrounding lands This time I have brought fire to his pack and I would make sure it burnt strong for taking my son. Our arrival by border patrol was noticed long before we arrived to the gate. I could see wolves. running along the side of the road which was covered in trees and bushes, keeping a watchful eye on our approaching vehicles. This was the King’s pack after all, his security had always been tight Donnie stops the car as we reach the manned gate and winds down his window. “We are here to see the Alpha King!” He brazenly declares earning a growl from the guard. “Is he expecting such a convoy? I think not!” The guard growls back at Donnie. I don’t have time for this. I lean forward so that I can now be seen. “Tell your Alpha that Luna Evelyn is at the gates, demanding entry!” “Luna?” The man gasps, my appearance shocking him. His eyes glaze over as he tries to reach Reuben or Nate through the pack link. “He will grant access but to ensure your vehicles are escorted.” The Red Stone warriors didn’t give us an inch of space to take advantage, to launch an attack. We were escorted down slowly towards the heart of the pack, to outside of the alpha home Warriors. walked in front of the car to set the pace that we had to follow. As we slowly entered the pack, I notice pack members coming out of their houses to watch our slow procession. They can’t see me through the tinted glass windows, but I can see them. I look around the pack grounds, I can’t see children playing near the alpha home like they once did, I‘ used to enjoy talking to them and hearing about their school days. Things here seemed different somehow, almost dull and grey. Not blossoming and thriving as t were when I left. Had I caused this onto them? Had my revenge actually reached so far as to hurt the innocent pack member of the Red Stone pack. That was never my intention, they weren’t involved in the death of my parents. Deep breath in, deep breath out! This is what I repeat to myself as I slowly open the back door to the vehicle. His sweet leathery scent is overpowering now that I am back on his grounds. I order my men to stand in the courtyard gathered behind me. Elspeth was being securely held in Noah’s arms on my left and Donnie flanked me on my right. Pack members seem to have followed us to the courtyard, where they stood together whispering about my return, how I was back from the dead. That is was a blessing the true Luna had returned. I have a feeling I was about to rain on their parade. That this isn’t the resurrection from death that they dreamed of. I wasn’t here to return to them. I’ll make it very clear, I’m here for my son and my son alone. Reuben POV I had been up late after being secretly informed that the Silver Moon pack announced that they had been attacked. I had spies dotted around and this news reached me in the early hours of the morning. Nate and I were trying to source information on what had happened and who might have attacked them. I contacted Alpha Ivo at the Blue Moon pack for confirmation but he denied knowing of any reports. I was tired recently, I wasn’t sleeping well. Evelyn’s face often tormented my dreams in some kind of parallel dimension where she was knocking on a sealed coffin pleading for release. Every time I open the coffin shouting for her, her corpse–like body would spring out at me causing me to abruptly wake up. Last night was no different and the interrupted sleep was screwing with my mind. A I skipped training this morning in favour of a lay in. I don’t think I’ve ever done that. I’ve always been part of morning training, been leading morning training or more recently watching morning training from the sidelines. But Nate and I didn’t finish our research until around 6am and judging by Michelle or Cassandra bashing around in the kitchen, it was now lunch time. “Alpha!” My mind was already stirring, knowing I had wasted an entire morning. “Alpha!” Nate roars at me through the mind–link. “Fucking hell Nate!” I growl back at him, he’s pissed me off for forgetting his place. Why wasn’t he asleep? “What is so urgent?”

Chapter Twenty–Four  Evelyn POV “Daddy!” Elspeth’s arms fling out for Noah who looked dirty and flustered. “Hello princess, I need to have a quick word with Mummy and Donnie, can you play upstairs?”  “No, she stays nearby. Miss Smith?” I call out for Miss Smith, who comes running out to me. “Alpha?” “Can you take Elspeth for a few minutes please, I won’t be long. You need…” “The warriors are still here, they decided to raid the kitchen!” She tuts as she pulls Elspeth out of Noah’s arms and walks her into the kitchen just as Donnie and the other Head Warriors walk through the front door. “I’ll make some more refreshments!” I hear Miss Smith call out to me as we re–enter my office. “Did you find anything Noah?” I desperately ask as I sit down at my chair, no longer caring how upset my voice might sound. “I found two dead police officers tucked away in the nearby woods. I’m guessing whoever has done this killed the police for their vehicle. They most likely tried to pull the SUV over but our men refused.” “Have you reported finding the bodies?” Donnie asks, as he and his comrades take some notes. “I’ve done it anonymously so that it couldn’t be traced back to us. But there’s something else…the police were stripped of their uniform.” “Okay, so they used the car and uniform to impersonate police to try and pull the car over!” I ‘respond. Why? What a fiasco to go through. “I found evidence of their clothing. I would say judging by the unkept condition, rogues!” “Why would rogues take a future alpha? They have no quarry with us?” I debate. It was true I was always open to rogues joining our pack as long as they obeyed by my rules. We had a few resettled rogues already that had actually found chosen mates and had submerged themselves completely into our society. “Alpha, if they were hired soldiers…crimes for money, then we need to find out who has hired them?” Donnie suggests. “Contact all our ally packs. Don’t raise the alarm on Rex just yet. I don’t want any have a go heroes getting involved. Say two of our men were attacked on human land and evidence shows rogues were involved.” I command, my body already aching to hold Elspeth, to hold Rex. “You have an hour, then let’s meet back here. All of us are to work through the night so now is your chance to freshen up. I’ll make sure food and drinks are on constant supply.“/ “I’ll ask Breatice over to help Miss Smith…” Donnie offers. “Are you sure?” I look to him. I didn’t want a pregnant she–wolf putting herself through stress. “She’ll want to be here, Harry can keep Elspeth entertained.” “Right, yes, good idea.” The Head Warriors leave and Noah closes the door after Donnie is the last one out. “Do you think it is him?” I growl at Noah, as soon as the door is closed. “There is no evidence that he is involved. This could be another pack…” “But what other pack would care if I competed against his alliance. It has to be him Noah, it just has to be. He would be that ruthless.” I was starting to break down, my wolf was constantly badgering at me to go find our son, My tone was becoming hoarse from lack of fluids. “I need to go find him, I’ll shift and spend the night…” “No Evelyn, it’s not safe.” “Rex is out there Noah…alone and scared!” I scream at him my hands fisting themselves. He grabs my wrists and holds them tightly. “They won’t hurt him, they need him alive. We will find him, we will get him back!” He pulls me into him, my screams being muffled by his chest as I bang my fists against him. He just holds me, let’s me scream it out, always my biggest supporter and biggest protector.

Chapter Twenty-Three Evelyn POV I couldn’t seem to focus, I was in real danger of unveiling our shifter community by shifting in front of the humans. My wolf needed to search the area, to smell for any clues. She needed out but I was working hard on reining her in. She was whining in my

Chapter Twenty-One Noah POV We had an increase in expecting mother’s of late, especially with the alliance and the new members using her medical facility.
