Chapter 38 Chapter 37  Kylie took a deep breath. She had always been a person who kept a clear distinction between public and private matters. She glanced at the message notification on her phone and chose to ignore it.  In Toville, Ethan sat in his office at Hayden Group’s branch, staring at his silent phone with a gloomy expression.  Derick dared not say a word. It wasn’t clear what had happened. The surprise inspection at the branch revealed satisfactory results. Yet, Ethan’s face was still dark.  “Derick, Ethan said.  “Yes, Mr. Hayden. Derick replied.  “Book the earliest flight back to Beliey for tomorrow, Ethan instructed.  “Isn’t dinner with the urban planning bureau leader scheduled for tomorrow?” Derick asked. They planned to handle the inspection and the social obligations simultaneously.  “Tomorrow night’s flight then,” Ethan corrected himself. Anyway, he had to return the next day.  “Yes,” Derick replied respectfully.  He thought, I’m afraid it will be well into the midnight hours after the social engagement tomorrow night. It must be The writing was firm, exactly like that on the Hayden Group invitation. “Just woke up.” Perla deliberately yawned. “What time did you leave last night? I didn’t see you when I came back with my parents.”  “It was late.” Sergio brushed it off, clearly not wanting to talk about the previous night. “My dad said we should announce our relationship sooner.”  “What?” Perla was visibly excited.  “How about you? Don’t you want to go public?” Sergio asked. 

Chapter 33  “I’m late.” Ethan’s deep and melodious voice carried a hint of apology.  Kylie shook her head. Just in time,” she said. Everything was just right.  Ethan’s heart stirred as he watched kylie, tears streaming down her face. His eyes were full of tenderness. His well–defined fingers touched her cheeks and gently wiped away her tears  Kylie’s body trembled slightly. She opened her eyes and met Ethan’s gaze. Some emotions seemed to be slowly growing between them.  Ethan leaned in and got closer to Kylie. Kylie continued to gaze directly at Ethan. Feelings among adults could easily ignite…..  Ethan’s lips approached Kylie’s soft and moist ones. At the moment of contact, Kylie turned her head. The kiss landed on her cheek.  Ethan’s eyes flickered as he looked at Kylie up close.  “Sorry.” Kylie refused.  Ethan swallowed and slowly sat up straight, saying, “I was too abrupt.”  Kylie’s heart fluttered. Although they hadn’t reached this point, and Ethan didn’t show any signs of anger. she felt an unexplained sense of guilt, as if she had let someone down.  Ethan stood up and prepared to leave.  “I’m not comfortable getting close to people,” Kylie suddenly explained.  Ethan, with a slight pause, silently looked at her.  “When I was 18, I was drunk and drugged and ended up with a stranger. That night, my memory was hazy. When I woke up, my mind was blank. I only felt nauseous,” Kylie continued.  Ethan pursed his lips and listened in silence.  “Since then, any contact with men makes me physically or emotionally unconfortable, and I instinctively create a sense of repulsion.” Kylie looked at Ethan. “It’s not just with you.”  With that, Kylie suddenly sat up from the bed, quickly got out of bed, and rushed into the bathroom.  Because of her urgency, she closed the bathroom door casually, not securely. The sound of gut–wrenching vomiting came from inside.  The sound went on for a long time. Ethan looked in the direction of the bathroom, his expression… indescribable.  1/4  A  Chapter 33  11% 19:34  After some time, the sounds from the bathroom lessened. Ethan walked in and saw Kylie kneeling by the  toilet.  Kylie had vomited bile, making her feel a bit relieved. However, the violent retching left her body limp and powerless,  “Are you done?” Ethan asked. There seemed to be a hint of anger in his tone.  Kylie nodded obediently.  Ethan bent down, picked her up, and gently placed her back on the bed. His actions sharply contrasted with his expression.  “Ethan,” Kylie called him. It seemed to be the first time she had ever called him by his name.  “Hmm?” Ethan replied.  Tm sleepy,” Kylie said.  “Go to sleep then, Ethan said.  “You should go back,” Kylie urged.  “I won’t take advantage of you.” Ethan was a bit speechless.  Perhaps this statement did the trick. Kylie rolled over, found a comfortable position, and, under the hypnotic effect of alcohol, quickly fell asleep.  She slept soundly. Ethan watched her sleeping face and looked at the tear marks still visible on her face.  He reached out to wipe them away but retracted his hand when he got close to her flawless cheek. With a bitter smile, he asked, “Kylie, how repulsive am I to you?”  Under the same night sky, Zola, wearing an unhappy expression, was sent back to Hayden’s residence.  While walking, she made a call. “Quintina, why didn’t you come with Xavier to my grandfather’s birthday party tonight?”  “I have a lot of work on hand and am still working overtime,” Quintina replied.  “Why are you working so hard for the Vanderbilt family? Can Xavier appreciate it? He has a bunch of women outside, Zola commented.  “I’m not doing it for Xavier. It’s mainly for myself, Quintina said.  “You’re just stubborn.”  Zola went upstairs and casually opened a door with her phone clamped between her ear and shoulder. She turned away from the door and reached behind her back to unzip her tight dress with discomfort.  CM MI  Chapter 33  יד  QUEZ & Im 19:34  However, just as the dress was pulled down to her waist, the bathroom door suddenly swung open.  Leopold stood at the bathroom door, his eyes slightly stunned. 

Chapter 32  “Mr. Cavankugh, long time no see Kylie took the initiative and raised her glass.  “Miss Stafford, your stomach isn’t well. Drink less,” Leopold said while accepting her offer, taking a sip  himself  Kylie also took a small sip. They were not very familiar, and their conversation remained brief.  Leopold looked toward Ethan, who was socializing, and said, “Ethan is a good guy”  It took Kylie a moment to react to why he said that. Leopold, being Jason’s adopted son, was well- acquainted with Ethan due to their connection with Jason. Almost everyone knew about it.  Kylie chose to stay silent, refraining from expressing any opinions about Ethan.  “It’s getting late. I should go.” Leopold gracefully set down his highball glass.  Jason had left long ago, leaving only Ethan engaged in socializing.  “Take care.” Kylie smiled politely.  Leopold nodded slightly, his lips curling upward into a faint smile. He exuded a sense of refinement, making him easily likable.  Leopold left the banquet hall, followed by Joel and Xavier, who cast lingering glances at Kylie before departing  Kylie chose to ignore their stares. Her mind focused on how much longer she needed to wait for Ethan. She feared she might end up getting drunk.  Suddenly, she saw Ethan walking toward the backyard. Kylie’s eyes flickered, but she didn’t follow.  In the backyard, Ethan grabbed Zola’s wrist. “Zola.”  Zola showed impatience on her face. “Let go,”  “Where were you the whole night?” Ethan asked.  “Why do you care?” Zola shook off Ethan’s hand.  “I’ve arranged for someone to take you home,” Ethan said.  “I don’t want to go home so early. I have plans to grab midnight snacks with friends later,” Zola retorted.  “It’s 11 o’clock. Who eats at this hour?” Ethan responded.  “Are you an old man? It’s only 11. Zola did not give in.  Chapter 32  “You have a shoot tomorrow.” Ethan tried to persuade her.  Til manage to get up.  “Derick,” Ethan called out.  “Yes” Derick respectfully approached Zola. “Ms. Yvette. I’ll take you home.”  Zola glared at Ethan, realizing resistance was futile. He could get her filming jobs at will before, and certainly, he could force her to go home now. With a burst of anger, she left,  Ethan then entered the banquet hall.  Meanwhile, Sergio emerged from a dark comer.  Feeling utterly embarrassed that night, he was reluctant to leave. However, he couldn’t endure the whispers and gossip around him either. He found solace in the backyard, intending to smoke. However, he unexpectedly witnessed Ethan and Zola together. No wonder Zola had abruptly replaced his sister’s role. He had never expected them to have some kind of secret relationship.  “So what does Kylie mean to Ethan?‘ he thought.  Sergio had a sinister grin as he scrolled through the ambiguous photos of Ethan and Zola on his phone.  Inside the hall, Ethan approached Kylie.  She was holding a glass of red wine and about to take a sip when Ethan swiftly took the glass from her. There was still a good portion of red wine left in the glass, and Ethan finished the remaining contents in one gulp.  “Sorry for keeping you waiting. Ethan said, nonchalantly placing the glass down.  Kylie was a bit stunned and asked, “Are you done with your business, Mr. Hayden?”  “Let’s go. I’ll take you home,” said Ethan.  Kylie stood up. As she did, her head swayed, and she felt dizzy.  Ethan quickly supported her. “Be Careful.”  “Thank you,” Kylie said, pushing away Ethan’s hand. She deliberately maintained a distance.  Ethan pursed his lips but ultimately let Kylie go.  Kylie walked ahead, and Ethan followed beside her. Their silhouettes looked perfect, captivating the entire hall. People couldn’t help but wonder if there was really something going on between them.  In the car, Kylie felt a bit disoriented, probably due to drinking too much. It had been a long time since she had consumed alcohol like that, especially after leaving Moore Group and breaking up with Sergio.  2/4  Chapter 32  That night, however, emotions still surfaced. She thought she had fully understood, but amidst the numerous doubts, she realized she wasn’t as carefree as she believed.  Arriving at the destination. Ethan turned to see Kylie leaning against the car window, already asleep. Her cheeks were rosy, and she was breathing steadily. 

Salma stood still, genuinely shocked by Ethan’s imposing presence. But in the next moment, she disregarded everything and shouted loudly. “Ethan, do you think Kylie is a good person? You’ve just returned, and maybe you don’t know how promiscuous and unscrupulous the is! She messed around at the age of 18 and even got pregnant with an illegitimate child. And now, without breaking up with my brother, she shamelessly seduces you! Don’t fall for her tricks!”  As her words echoed, discussions erupted around them.  “So she’s Kylie. She managed to hook up with Mr. Hayden so  quickly. She is quite something.”  “I heard her dress is worth 1,776,000 dollars. She really went all out to seduce Mr. Hayden.”  “Earlier, I heard Mr. Joseph call Kylie Mommy: Could it be that Kylie has already won over Mr. Joseph?  “Kylie is indeed quite cunning…“.  Salma, hearing the sarcastic comments about Kylie, couldn’t help but wear a triumphant smile. She was determined to embarrass Kylie and make Ethan see what kind of person Kylie truly was. She refused to believe that Ethan could accept someone like Kylie. She would never allow Kylie to get involved with Ethan.  “Kylie was framed at 18 and forced to get pregnant. It’s her misfortune, not a stain on her character. We should pity and sympathize with Kylie for her past tragic experiences, not maliciously slander and mock her.” Ethan’s voice, cold and threatening, cut through the discussions.  “Don’t be fooled by her. She has no morals…” Salma retorted passionately.  “From today onward, anyone who dares to speak ill of Kylie is going against me. I never show mercy to my enemies.” Ethan declared firmly.  The people gossiping around couldn’t help but shudder, afraid of facing Ethan’s retaliation.  “As for what happened between Kylie and Sergio…” Ethan raised an eyebrow and looked at the Moore. family’s people. “Do I need to reveal it publicly?”  Jarrett was shocked and quickly responded, “Today, my daughter behaved recklessly and offended Mr. Hayden. I’ll take her back immediately. Mr. Hayden, please overlook her mistakes, and we’ll leave right away.”  With that, he rudely dragged Salma out of the hall. “What an embarrassing day, he thought.  But Ethan stopped them. “Wait.”  Jarrett dared not leave and looked at Ethan in fear.  “My son said she stained Kylie’s dress,” Ethan said.  1/4  UZN 11% 19:33  Chapter 31  *I’ll compensate. How much? I’ll compensate Kylie, Jarrett hastily said.  “Dad, the dress was bought by my brother. Why do we have to compensate?” Salma interjected, agitated.  They weren’t fools. There was no reason to give money to Kylie repeatedly.  “Shut up!” Jarrett scolded. At that moment, he wanted to give Salma a good beating.  “Compensation is just one aspect,” Ethan stated.  “What do you mean by that, Mr. Hayden?” Jarrett was unable to read through Ethan’s mind and could only inquire.  “Shouldn’t she apologize first when she’s done something wrong?” Ethan asked frankly.  Jarrett quickly turned to Salma and sternly demanded, “Apologize to Kylie. Hurry up.”  “I won’t…” Salma refused, with a proud and arrogant demeanor. In Salma’s eyes, she had always been at superior figure. Now making her give in to Kylie was something she absolutely refused to do.  “Salma, aren’t you listening to me?” Jarrett threatened sternly.  “Dad, didn’t you say Ethan likes me?” Salma blurted out.  Regret surged through her heart. If she had known Ethan was this handsome, she would have agreed earlier.  “I have no interest in Miss Moore, Ethan clarified before Jarrett could say anything.  As his words echoed, there were mocking murmurs around.  Salma had boasted to everyone in the upper class that Ethan admired her, and now she was publicly rebuffed. She was so smug before, and now she was embarrassed in public.  “Do you still refuse to apologize?” Ethan’s patience was clearly running thin.  Salma bit her lip and looked at Kylie. Kylie maintained her elegant composure and wore a faint smile. But no matter how Salma looked at it, she thought Kylie was laughing at her.  “Sorry.” Salma finally gave in. Feeling the weight of humiliation, she almost broke down on the spot..  “It’s okay,” Kylie responded generously with a wider smile, showing great tolerance. This was already enough for Salma to bear.  Seeing that Salma had apologized, Jarrett seized the opportunity and asked Ethan, “Mr. Hayden, can I take my daughter back now?”  “This incident should not set a precedent,” said Ethan.  “Yes, yes, of course. I’ll make sure to educate her properly when I get home.” Jarrett roughly pulled Salma  2/4  Chapter 31  away, leaving the hall in embarrassment.  Once they left, the atmosphere returned to normal, but many still looked at Erhan and Kylie with disbelief. Two people seemingly unrelated were now connected. How could this be possible? But everyone present witnessed what had just happened. They had to believe it. 

Chapter 30  “Kylie!” Sergio was almost losing control due to Kylie’s mockery  “There are many people watching you now,” Kylie reminded indifferently. “If you feel that you haven’t embarrassed yourself enough today, feel free to do so.”  “You.” Sergio gritted his teeth.  At that moment, he could not help but observe his surroundings.  People were still whispering about him from time to time.  Sergio left the hall, feeling ashamed and unable to face anyone.  Kylie watched Sergio leave, and the smile on her lips turned cold.  Her eyes flickered as she looked at Ethan, who was being surrounded and flattered by people. She turned around, intending to leave.  She came there to witness an important moment in Ethan’s life and to meet Jos, as per Ethan’s invitation.  Now that everything was accomplished, there was no need for her to stay any longer.  She did not like socializing unless absolutely necessary.  “Miss Stafford. Derick suddenly appeared in front of her, addressing her, “I am Mr. Hayden’s assistant, Derick. Mr. Hayden asked me to tell you not to leave and wait for him to come back.”  Kylie frowned.  How did he know she was about to leave?  Obviously, he had been surrounded the entire time and had no time to be distracted.  “I have to go over to him, Miss Stafford,” Derick conveyed the message and quickly left.  He was also afraid of Kylie’s refusal.  It was evident that Kylie wasn’t too keen on waiting.  Kylie eventually stayed.  ay with me.  Just in time, Joseph happily ran over and said, “Mommy, I knew you did not leave. You will stay right?”  “Yes.” Kylie felt a bit guilty.  She had originally planned to leave at that moment.  MI  Chapter 30  NH 19:33  “Mommy, Daddy said if you don’t like the hall, you can go to the backyard. There’s a swing in the backyard. Can I take you to swing?”  “Sure.  Joseph held Kylie’s hand and walked toward the backyard.  After taking just a few steps, a waiter coming toward them suddenly tripped over something. He lost his balance, and the tray he was carrying, filled with red wine and champagne glasses, was about to spill onto  them.  Kylie, quick–eyed and nimble–handed, immediately pulled Joseph away and swiftly moved to the side, avoiding the spill.  Even so, some red wine splattered on her gown.  I’m so sorry. The waiter was pale with fear.  Kylie looked up at Salma and Perla, who were nearby.  Without thinking, she knew who the troublemakers were.  “Oh, the gown worth 1,776,000 dollars. What a pity that it gets dirty. Salma’s mocking voice rang out.  The waiter turned even paler upon hearing “1,776,000 dollars.”  He froze on the spot.  “Kylie, you would not make things difficult for a mere waiter, right? Accidents are bound to happen when wearing such a gown, right?” Salma deliberately remarked.  Salma had suffered numerous setbacks that night, and seeing Kylie so proud angered her.  Kylie, after breaking up with Sergio, had hooked up with Ethan, even causing Sergio to be so embarrassed at the party.  If Kylie did not embarrass herself, Salma could not vent her frustration.  Kylie, with a calm tone and a smile on her lips, said, “You bought the gown for me. If you don’t want to make things difficult for the waiter, I can take it back and throw it away.”  Salma’s face changed instantly.  Kylie had to bring up the origin of this gown.  “The gown is dirty now. You probably would not want to stay at such an important event wearing it. That would be disrespectful to the host. Salma insinuated that Kylie should leave quickly.  Kylie’s gaze tightened.
