hapter 109 It’s not until past nine in the evening that Celeste woke up. She opened her eyes and luckily, the room was not in pitch dark. The lamp beside the bed cast a yellow glow, enveloping the room in a warm atmosphere. The heating in the room was on. Celeste had a parched throat.

Chapter 101  Celeste covered herself with a blanket, closed her eyes to take a nap.  When she opened her eyes again, the environment outside the car window  had turned unfamiliar. It was still dark, and the headlights cut through the  night, illuminating a narrow path forward.  Celeste rubbed her eyes..  “How much longer?” she inquired.  “Just one more hour.”  The sky, veiled in mist, had already started to reveal a faint dawn.  It wasn’t until they arrived at the hospital that Celeste’s anxiety began to subside. The Intensive Care Unit was located on the second floor. As Celeste  ascended the stairs, she saw Kendric standing outside the ward.  He was dressed in a black overcoat, a stark contrast against his pale face. He stood there, exuding an aura of profound sorrow.  Caleb held immense significance in Kendric’s life. In Kendric’s heart, Caleb wasn’t just his grandfather but also a role model. Caleb was his guiding light that illuminated his path.  Kendric was engulfed by endless helplessness. He couldn’t wrench his grandfather back from the grasp of the Grim Reaper. In this moment, he seemed  remarkably small and powerless.  “Kendric.”  Celeste softly called out to him, and he turned around. It was then that she could clearly see his face.  Chapter101  It seemed he had lost a lot of weight, his eye sockets sunken, and his cheeks  pinched.  But Celeste’s arrival stirred up a ripple on the dead water in his eyes.  “Why are you here?”  Since they parted last time, they hadn’t seen each other for a full two  months and three days.  “How’s Grandpa? Why did his condition suddenly turn critical?”  “Grandpa has always been plagued by ailments. The doctor said that the  organ failure was the reason for the deterioration of his condition.”  Yes, Caleb had been suffering from a myriad of health issues. Back then, the  passing of Kendric’s father was a significant blow to him. Moreover, he had to spend great energy managing family business, which had left him more and  more exhausted.  “Originally, Grandpa wished to witness our wedding before he died. But we broke up.”  “He’d be so happy if he wake up and see you now,” Kendric mumbled.  The following day, the sky was clear. The sunlight filtered through the ward’s windows.  Caleb’s condition still remained critical.  Kendric paced anxiously outside the ward. He was now a caged animal trapped in despair.  Chapter101  Celeste had been at the hospital for two days, and their conversations were few and far between. Kendric seemed unusually quiet. During the day, he would wait on the ward for Caleb to wake up. At night, he’d push himself to work late.  Celeste was worried that Kendric would stress himself to much, but she had  no way to persuade him into rests.  One noon, Cade brought them lunch.  While Celeste was setting up the meal, she heard a muffled thud behind  her. She turned around, only to see Kendric lie motionless on the ground.  “Doctor!” she shouted.  Tears poured down her cheeks and fell like raindrops on his coat.  Celeste felt her heart pound in her chest. Each beat sounded like a  thunderclap in her ears. She felt an overwhelming sense of fear and panic.  She cried out desperately, calling Kendric’s name, hoping to wake him up.  But there was no response. He just lay on the cold marble floor.  In this moment, all her suppressed love and feelings for this man washed away her sanity like floods.  “Ken, wake up, please!”
