Chapter 23  Debby was just out to get Connor, that scumbag who had given her a measly 200 grand as a breakup fee! And she dragged EMinor into the mess, ruining her reputation and chances with any decent guy.  But who would’ve thought the silent security cameras would suddenly have sound?!  At this moment, Connor was frantically pulling at Belinda, “Belinda, let me explain. I really don’t know her.”  “Don’t touch me! You’re still trying to justify yourself even now! Connor, I really misjudged you!” Belinda, disgusted, pushed him away. She picked up her wedding dress and walked out of the church without looking back.  Connor shot Debby a furious look and ran after Belinda.  On stage, Debby was being blamed by everyone and had to leave in disgrace. This woman, playing the mistress and even attending the wedding as a bridesmaid. Taking the breakup fee and still trying to push the blame onto others, she was shameless!  If there were rotten eggs around, everyone would’ve definitely thrown them at this shameless woman!  Ellinor, tired and yawning, looked up to see Theo staring at her from the crowd. Why was he looking at her like that?  Ellinor walked off the stage and was immediately replaced by Collin who cleared his throat and said, “Everything that happened here today, including the wedding, is best forgotten. If word gets out, the Blanchet family will deal with everyone present. Remember that.”  The church fell silent, then people started to voice their stance:  “We don’t know anything!”  “Right! We didn’t see anything!”  “I’m just here for the buffet!”  “Yeah, me too.”  The Wesley family was the family of Theo’s mother. The Blanchet family and Theo were people they absolutely could not offend.  Theo stood up and left amidst the shocked stares. Ellinor, wanting to get out of there and go to sleep, followed him.  Jonah, in high spirits, walked up to Ellinor and smiled, “Didn’t expect you to be this pretty, kid!”  Ellinor glanced at Jonah. Who was he?  They left the church. In the corridor, they ran into Connor pleading for Belinda’s forgiveness, “Belinda, I promise I won’t cheat again! Today’s our wedding day, let’s finish the ceremony first, okay?”  “Connor, it’s over. There won’t be any weddings!” Belinda said.  Seeing that Belinda was not going to forgive him no matter what, Connor’s face darkened. Only by marrying into the Wesley family could he inherit his family’s wealth!  He forcefully pulled Belinda close and whispered in her ear, “Belinda, listen to me. Just go through with the wedding, I promise I’ll treat you well. If you don’t cooperate, don’t blame me for leaking your private photos online for all the men in the world to see!”  Belinda froze, looking at the man she had loved for three years in disbelief. What did he just say? 

Chapter 22  Connor turned pale as a sheet, his eyes wide as dinner plates riveled on Debby, one of the bridesmaids.  That chick, she must be up to no good!  Belinda’s joyous smile slowly hardened into a grimace. She gaped in disbelief at her groom–to–be, “Connor, what’s the deal between you. and that woman? What were you two doing in the storage room?”  Connor gently laid a hand on Belinda’s shoulder, “Belinda, let me explain, it’s not what you think! That bridesmaid said she was feeling sick and asked me to help her get to the storage room. But once we were in, she started undressing and tried to seduce me! I was freaked out and bolted right out of there, I swear I didn’t do anything!”  Belinda was far from convinced by Connor’s explanation. She pushed him away and headed towards the four bridesmaids on the stage, “Which one of you is the woman in the video? Step forward now!”  From the back, Debby sneakily shoved a yawning Ellinor forward. Caught off guard, Ellinor stumbled and ended up standing in front of Belinda!  Belinda was taken aback, furrowing her brow, “You?”  In the audience, Jonah was enjoying the drama unfold, “Theo, your wife is trying to seduce the groom at someone else’s wedding? And that groom is your niece’s fiancé! Oh boy…”  Theo remained quiet, watching silently.  Ellinor, always a bit slow when yawning, took a moment to collect herself, then shook her head, “Just look at the dress the woman in the video is wearing. It’s clear who it is. My dress doesn’t have a ruffled neckline.”  Debby glanced down and realized, darn it! Among the four bridesmaids, only her dress had that design!  She quickly blamed Ellinor, “It was her! She seduced the groom! She was originally wearing this dress, but after she went to the bathroom, she suggested we swap dresses. I didn’t think much of it and agreed. Turns out she seduced the groom and switched dresses to frame me!”  Belinda and Ellinor exchanged glances.  “Ellinor, you were indeed wearing that bridesmaid dress at first, why did you switch?” Belinda asked.  Hearing Belinda question Ellinor, Debby chimed in, “Yeah, Ellinor, if you weren’t seducing the groom, why did you switch dresses with  me?”  Ellinor looked at Debby who accused her, “I remember you being the one who insisted on switching, not me.”  Debby retorted, “Do you have any proof? If not, stop spreading rumors!”  Ellinor raised an eyebrow, “Isn’t the proof already on the big screen?”  Debby glanced at the screen, where the surveillance footage was still looping. The footage wasn’t clear and didn’t capture the woman’s face. This was hardly concrete proof!  Debby sneered dismissively, “The woman in the video is you, isn’t it? You said this is proof, so you’re admitting it’s you!”  Ignoring Debby, Ellinor calmly turned to the control panel, “Can someone please turn the volume up to the max? We’ll clear up who the woman in the video is.”  The volume on the big screen maxed out, and the voices from the surveillance video became clearer. Everyone heard the quarrel between Connor and Debby, their conversation revealing their illicit relationship, making it clear they were lovers!  “It was you!” Belinda slapped Debby in a fit of rage!  Debby covered her face, her complexion pallid and lips trembling.  How could the surveillance have sound? And so clear at that!  When she snuck to retrieve the surveillance footage, it was definitely without sound. Yes, the surveillance footage that suddenly popped up on the big screen was her doing! 

Chapter 21  “You disgusting woman!” Debby spat out, fire burning in her jealous eyes.  Ellinor had no intention of arguing with Debby at someone else’s wedding, so she turned around and headed for the restroom.  When she came out, she was surprised to see a man and a woman arguing at the far end of the corridor, who then slipped quietly into the storage room together.  If she wasn’t mistaken, the man was the groom, Connor, and the woman was Debby, wearing a bridesmaid dress the same color as  hers!  What on earth could be going on between the groom and the bridesmaid on the wedding day?  Inside the storage room.  “Connor, you’re heartless, getting married behind my back!” Debby said.  “Debby, what are you doing here?” Connor asked.  “I’m here to be a bridesmaid, but I didn’t expect the groom to be you! No wonder you stopped answering my calls!” Debby said.  “Debby, here’s a card with 20,000 dollars in it. Consider it our breakup fee. Leave after you’ve done your bridesmaid duties, and don’t make a scene!” Connor said.  Debby took the card, “Twenty thousand? If you want to break up, you should give me at least a hundred thousand!”  Connor was annoyed, “A hundred thousand? Debby, don’t be so greedy! If you don’t want this twenty thousand, I’ll have security escort you out!”  Hearing their argument in the storage room, Ellinor finally remembered why Connor looked familiar.  Connor had picked up Debby from Nexus Industries before. Debby was always showing off and parading her handsome boyfriend around. And Belinda had said that she and Connor had been in love for three years. That seemingly well–mannered Connor had a  mistress!  Poor Belinda, she loved him so much!  Ellinor’s face was expressionless. Belinda was Theo’s niece. This was the Blanchet family’s business, none of her concern. She didn’t  need to meddle.  The wedding began.  Belinda walked down the aisle, steadily advancing towards the man she believed would accompany her for the rest of her life.  In the audience, Jonah, suddenly reminded of something, gently nudged Theo beside him and asked with a smile, “Theo, where’s that girl you brought home the other day? Why didn’t you bring her?”  Theo remained silent, his gaze fixed on Ellinor on stage.  Collin answered for him, “Sir, she’s here too.”  “Here?” Jonah looked around, “Where? I don’t see her.”  Collin pointed to the stage, “There.”  Looking at the stage, Jonah saw only the bride Belinda and four bridesmaids left, “Which one is she?”  Every time he’d seen her before, she was either heavily made up or wearing a veil. He hadn’t seen her true face yet!  The big screen on stage was playing a video of the bride and groom’s love story. Meanwhile, the priest was asking the bride if she was willing to marry the groom, no matter what the future held.  Suddenly, the screen switched to a surveillance video showing Connor and a woman in a bridesmaid dress struggling with each other in the corridor before entering the storage room.  The crowd immediately broke into whispers. 

Chapter 20  “Alrighty, Connor! Off you go, entertain our guests outside! No need to worry about the bridesmaid stuff, I’ve got it covered!” Belinda shoved Connor out of the dressing room.  She tumed around and looked at Ellinor, who was already dressed in her bridesmaid dress, and said with a smile, “Ellinor, you look stunning! No wonder Theo suddenly flipped a switch and decided to marry you!”  Ellinor managed a weak smile.  Belinda continued, “Ellinor, how did you and my uncle start dating?”  Dating Theo? That was a painful memory!  Ellinor frowned, “Let’s not talk about him and me, today you’re the spotlight, let’s talk about how you and your  fiancé.”  Belinda enthusiastically started talking about her and Connor’s love story, focusing on the sweet and happy moments.  Soon, two girls entered the dressing room, temporary bridesmaids Belinda had found.  Belinda sent them off to change into their bridesmaid dresses, took a call in the meantime, asked Ellinor to greet the last arriving temporary bridesmaid, and then rushed off.  A few minutes later, Debby walked into the dressing room, “Where do I change into the bridesmaid dress?”  Ellinor pointed to the side, “Over there!”  Seeing Ellinor, Debby said angrily, “Ellinor? You again! What are you doing here?”  Ellinor, lounging on the sofa and looking at her phone, glanced at her and said lightly, “I’m here to help out, as a bridesmaid.”  Debby, who had lost her job and was approaching her credit card repayment date, saw an ad online for a bridesmaid gig, with a day’s pay of 300 dollars, and promptly took it up.  She didn’t expect Ellinor to be doing the same thing!  She looked at Ellinor, dressed in a bridesmaid dress, with a sarcastic tone, “Oh! Weren’t you chasing after rich men at the auction house this morning? Now you’re here being a temporary bridesmaid? Got dumped, didn’t you?”  Ellinor didn’t respond, just kept scrolling through social media on her phone.  Thinking she had hit a nerve, Debby snorted in satisfaction, “You had it coming! You really think those rich guys would actually consider you girlfriend material? They’re just playing games with you!”  Ignoring her, Ellinor continued to tap on her phone. Debby threw a few more jabs before going to change.  Seeing the last bridesmaid dress left on the rack, Debby frowned in displeasure. She didn’t like the simple and elegant strapless style. It had no design sense!  She glanced at the dress Ellinor was wearing, walked over, and demanded, “Hey! Take off the one you’re wearing and swap with me!”  Ellinor raised an eyebrow, “Why?”  Debby stated defiantly, “Because you cost me two jobs, you owe me!”  Ellinor gave a cold laugh, “Then, I wonder who cost me my job?”  Debby didn’t care about that, she hurriedly grabbed Ellinor, trying to help her undress, “Less talking, more undressing!”  Ellinor was getting annoyed, and clenched her fists, but then she thought of Belinda….  This was Belinda’s wedding: finding four temporary bridesmaids was no easy feat. The wedding was about to start, and there could be no more hiccups.  “Alright, I’ll trade with you!” Ellinor said.  “That’s more like it!” Debby said.  After changing, Debby was pleased with her reflection. She was feeling beautiful about herself, until she saw Ellinor coming out of the changing room.  Ellinor had put on the bridesmaid dress Debby didn’t like, but her elegance wasn’t diminished. Instead, her shoulders and neck looked even more delicate, her skin even more exquisite.  Turned out, it wasn’t that the dress on Ellinor was more beautiful, but her grace made any dress look high–end. 

Chapter 19  The girl in the wedding dress was Theo’s niece. She was getting hitched today and needed a bridesmaid. So, Theo brought her along.  Ellinor couldn’t help but retort, “Theo, don’t you know? Bridesmaids are supposed to be single young girls. I’m your newlywed wife. How can I be her bridesmaid?”  Theo frowned. Did he really not know?  The girl was surprised, “Oh my gosh! You’re Ellinor!”  So, the girl enthusiastically grabbed Elinor’s hand and introduced herself with a smile, “Hi, Ellinor! I’m Belinda, Theo’s niece! Uh, my bridesmaids got stuck in traffic on the overpass. We needed someone to step in last minute, so we didn’t think too much about it.”  Ellinor nodded, “I see.”  “Come on, Ellinor. Let’s get you into a bridesmaid’s dress!” Belinda pulled Ellinor towards the dressing room.  Ellinor glared at Theo before leaving. This guy promised her a job, but it turned out he just wanted her to be a free bridesmaid!  Seeing Ellinor all riled up, Theo couldn’t help but smile. Messing with her every now and then was quite amusing.  Jonah appeared with a glass of champagne and patted Theo on the shoulder, “Theo, what are you looking at?”  Theo came back to his senses, “Nothing.”  “Let’s go mingle.” Jonah said.  “Sure.” Theo said.  In the dressing room.  Belinda pointed at several evening gowns hanging on the rack, “These are the four bridesmaid dresses I ordered. Pick one you like, Ellinor!”  Ellinor, who was always casual about her attire, grabbed the one on the far end, “This one will do!”  Belinda smiled, “Great! Get changed here, Ellinor. I’ll go check if the other bridesmaids have arrived.”  “Alright.” Ellinor changed into the dress.  It was a blue strapless dress with pleats at the neckline, making her look innocent and pure.  She sat on the sofa in the dressing room, waiting for Belinda to come back. She checked the unread message from Chase on her phone. and sent a reply.  “Belinda!” Suddenly, someone walked into the dressing room.  Ellinor looked up and locked eyes with the man.  “Belinda just stepped out.” She said.  The man asked, “You…”  Just then, Belinda came back, “Connor, what are you doing here?”  Connor turned to Belinda and smiled gently, “I came to see how your preparations were going. Have all the bridesmaids arrived?”  Belinda was full of confidence, “No worries, everything’s under control!”  “That’s good.” Connor nodded and turned to Ellinor, “By the way, who’s this?”  Belinda excitedly pulled Ellinor over and introduced her, “She’s the bridesmaid Theo found for us! Isn’t she gorgeous?”  “I see!” Connor extended his hand to Ellinor in a friendly manner, “Hello, thank you for being willing to help us.”  Connor, Belinda’s fiancé, was a handsome man.  Ellinor felt like she’d seen Connor before, but couldn’t remember where.  Out of courtesy, she shook his hand, “No problem, it’s what I should do.”  As Connor held her hand, he smiled. It was supposed to be a simple handshake, but he suddenly squeezed her hand, his thumb gently rubbing her palm.  Ellinor was slightly taken aback, frowning at Connor. 

Chapter 18  Ellinor turned to Chase, cocking her head slightly. Years of understanding made Chase instantly get Ellinor’s drift  Clearing his throat, Chase lifted his hand, adjusting the Bluetooth earpiece he typically wore on his left ear Then, with a nonchalant look, he walked past Theo and Ellinor.  He deliberately lowered his voice, pretending to be on a phone call, “It was super awkward just now, I was dissing Mr. Blanchet and he overheard me! Yep, he’s the one who nabbed the painting you were eyeing Let’s just let him have it! Lady Lotus has more than just Whispers in the Wind, we can get another one later”  With that, Chase walked away  Ellinor tumed to Theo, raising her eyebrows innocently. “That guy seemed to be badmouthing you‘  Theo looked at Ellinor, skeptical. “You guys don’t know each other?”  Ellinor shook her head, “No clue who he is! Do you know him? Why would he insult you?”  Theo asked, “What are you doing here?”  Ellinor feigned frustration, sighing, “Come on, I just got canned by Nexus Industries! Heard they were hiring auctioneers here, so! dropped off my resume. I’m here for an interview!”  Theo was still dubious. “Did you get the job?”  Ellinor shook her head and shrugged, “Nope! They’re looking for someone with at least three years of experience, which I don’t have.”  Theo eyed her. She looked really young.  If she were to stand on the auction stage, people might mistake it for a student supplies auction.  Ellinor looked up and asked, “What brings you here?”  “My grandpa wanted some paintings, I’m here to buy them. Theo said.  “Oh, you’re such a good grandson Ellinor said.  Just then, his phone rang. Theo answered the call, frowning, then hung up.  Afterward, he looked at Ellinor thoughtfully, “Where are you heading next?”  Ellinor answered nonchalantly, “I’ll keep sending out resumes and job hunting.”  Theo gently patted her head, leaning down slightly, his voice low and irresistible, “Come with me, I can give you a job.”  “What?” Ellinor was taken aback.  Before she could think, he grabbed her wrist and led her away.  Pearl Moon.  This was Ellinor’s second time here, the previous time was when Theo forcibly brought her here to get engaged.  The surrounding decorations were grand and beautiful, with colorful flowers, red carpet, ribbons, balloons.  Ellinor looked astonished, “What are you up to this time, sir? Don’t tell me you want to throw another wedding?”  Theo glanced at her impassively, “Are you that eager to marry an older man like me? You want another Western–style wedding?”  Ellinor was about to retort when a girl’s voice rang out, “Theo!”  She turned to see a young woman in a wedding dress, her dress held up as she ran towards Theo, anxiously asking. “Theo, did you bring the person I asked you to find?”  Theo brought Ellinor, who was standing next to him, to the bride, “How about her?”  The bride looked at Ellinor  Ellinor felt like she was being sold, crossing her arms defensively. “What are you guys up to?”  The bride looked at Ellinor, pouting a little unhappily. “She’s so pretty? Theo, the bridesmaid you found for me is prettier than me, the bride!”  Theo glanced at Ellinor, laughing coldly, ‘She’s pretty? When did your eyes go bad? And you didn’t even tell me?”  Ellinor glared at Theo in anger!  Now she got it. 

Chapter 17  “Boss, why aren’t we going in?” Chase asked.  Ellinor stood still, watching Theo alight from his car and enter the auction house. She frowned, “I saw someone I don’t fancy Let’s wait a bit before we go in.”  Chase followed her gaze, “That looks like Theo from the Blanchet family! Boss, do you know him?”  Ellinor looked displeased, “We’re not exactly pals.”  The auction house had two levels. The ground floor was for regular customers, and the upper floor was for VIPs who preferred privacy. It was filled with private booths, each with its distinct number.  Theo was in booth number 1, and Ellinor was in booth number 7.  After a few ordinary antiques were auctioned off, several oil paintings, the main attractions of the auction, were brought onto the stage. The auctioneer professionally introduced the era and the value of these paintings, before starting the bidding at a million dollars!  “1.5 million!”  “2 million!”  “3 million!”  Eventually, these paintings were won by a mysterious buyer from booth number 1 for a whopping 1.8 million dollars, causing a stir among the spectators!  Inside booth number 7.  Ellinor lazily leaned back on the couch, yawning. So, the weirdo came for the oil paintings.  He had got the paintings now. There was nothing left worth seeing. He should be leaving soon, right?  “Next up, we have a masterpiece by the famous Impressionist artist Lady Lotus, ‘Whispers in the Wind“. The starting bid is half a million dollars!”  Here it was!  “Bidder number 3 bids $600,000!”  “Number 11 bids $700,000!”  “Number 5 bids $750,000!”  Ellinor gave Chase the nod, signaling him to start bidding.  “Number 7 bids a straight one million!”  The audience gasped, this person really knew how to throw money around!  The auctioneer started to count, “One million once! One million twice! One…”  As he was about to finalize, Collin from booth number 1 suddenly raised his paddle.  The auctioneer was taken aback, his tone suddenly filled with excitement, “Bidder number 1 bids two million!”  There was an uproar in the room…  He jumped straight to two million! Was number 1 trying to compete with number 7?  Ellinor frowned, why hadn’t that weirdo left?  Chase wasn’t pleased either, “What’s Mr. Blanchet’s deal? Trying to show off his wealth?”  Ellinor calmly instructed, “Chase, keep going!”  “Yes, boss!”  “Number 7 bids two and a half million, any higher offers?”  “Number 1 bids three million!”  “Number 7 bids four million!”  “Number 1 bids five million!”  “Five million once, five million twice…”  Ellinor’s eyes darkened, the trouble now was that she was running out of funds.  Chase suggested, “Boss, this painting is important to you. We could temporarily use the money set aside for the project!”  Ellinor shook her head, “No, we can’t compromise the company’s financial health because of my personal business. 111 find another way. to get the painting. For today, let him have it!”  Chase was helpless.  The auctioneer slammed his hammer, declaring bidder number 1 as the winner of Whispers in the Wind‘ for five million dollars.  Everyone was stunned. Bidder number 1 spent five million on a painting far beyond its worth!  Ellinor was pondering Although her mother was somewhat famous under the pseudonym Lady Lotus, she wasn’t a mainstream artist, and her work was more niche. Theo paid a high price of five million for Whispers in the Wind‘. Could he have some connection to her mother, or know her personally?  *Hello.” Two female receptionists from the auction house came over with coffee and desserts. 

Chapter 16  Ellinor’s eyes were wide as saucers, completely flabbergasted at the sight of the man doing push–ups on top of her!  Her mouth was covered by Theo’s other big hand, and the man just pulled the quilt over their bodies, only their heads were visible.  They were staring at each other, sometimes close, sometimes for apart, so it almost seemed like they were….  Ellinor was a bit flustered. Faced with such suggestive actions, she couldn’t help but push away the man’s large hand.  “You..” Ellinor said.  Theo had just finished a push–up, he leaned over and whispered in her ear, “Didn’t you say you were going to take this three–month mission seriously? This is something you need to cooperate with, don’t move around!”  Ellinor was taken aback for a second, then she noticed some movement at the room’s doorway. Marissa had the door slightly ajar, sneakily observing them.  So, that was it!  Upon realizing, Ellinor whispered, “Do you need me to help you?”  Theo was somewhat surprised, “Can you?”  Ellinor’s gaze was very determined!  A hint of mockery flashed in Theo’s eyes, “Why don’t you give it a try?”  Ellinor took a deep breath, and started her performance, “Honey, keep it up! Faster! Go!”  Theo stared at her, veins throbbing in his forehead, and he quickly covered her mouth again!  Ellinor frowned, “Mmm mmm mmm…”  The suppressed sounds, somehow, suggested something else. The gap in the door gradually decreased, until the door closed. Marissa revealed a satisfied smile, and turned to leave.  Ellinor pushed away the man’s hand again, impatiently saying. “Your grandma left, you can get up now!”  Theo threw off the quilt, swiftly got up, and put on the shirt he just took off.  Ellinor sat up against the head of the bed, casually whistling, “You’re pretty old, but you still maintain your abs, really disciplined!”  Theo stiffened, old? How old did she think he was?  “Ellinor, if you look at me like that again, I’ll think you’re into me.” Theo said.  Ellinor said, “I’m only into your abs, the rest is not my type!”  “Really?” Theo walked to the head of the bed, reached out and pinched Ellinor’s chin, “Then what type of men do you like?”  Ellinor was forced to look up, “I like obedient and submissive types!”  Theo scoffed, ‘Do those even count as men?”  Ellinor snickered, “Then what type of women do you like, old man?”  Theo didn’t answer.  Ellinor raised an eyebrow, “Let me guess, do you  like sexy women?”  Theo looked at her, leaned down slightly, “Definitely not the type that would cheer me on in bed!”  Theo let go of her chin, and turned to walk to the bathroom. Ellinor thought, since Marissa was home today. Theo would definitely spend the night in the room. Though she knew Theo wasn’t interested in her, sharing a room made her feel uncomfortable.  When Theo came out of the bathroom, Ellinor had already fallen asleep.  Her phone screen was still lit, showing the game she was playing. She acted like a child, yet wanted a boyfriend?  Dream on!  Theo walked over and took her phone, pressed the lock screen button, and placed it on the bedside table. He was not planning to take care of her, but considering he accidentally hurt her today, he covered her with the quilt.  Then, Theo turned and walked towards the sofa.  The next morning, when Ellinor woke up, Theo was no longer in the room.  Since she was unemployed, she didn’t need to get up early for work. Sshe lay in bed, checking her phone.  Suddenly, she received an urgent message from her friend Chase.  Chapter 16  Boss, found a real work by the painter Lady Lotus! It’s in an auction house, hurry over!]  So, Ellinor immediately got out of bed to get ready. 

Chapter 15  Ellinor’s face started turning purplish–red.  Marissa, having just caught her breath, quickly said, “Theo, let her go.”  Only then did Theo loosen his grip, shoving Ellinor aside to ask, “Granny, are you okay?”  Marissa weakly waved her hand, “I’m okay now. I just had a dale pit stuck in my throat. Ellinor saved me using first aid. The pit on the floor. I just spat it out.”  Theo paused, looking down at the insignificant pit on the floor, then back at Ellinor, his brows slightly furrowed.  Ellinor, pushed harshly to the ground, picked herself up and rubbed her sore arm..  She then walked over to Marissa and explained, “Marissa, I baked that dessert for myself this morning. I didn’t remove the pits from the dates, which isn’t suitable for the elderly. I’m sorry for the trouble I caused.”  She bowed sincerely, then straightened up to look at Theo, “Mr. Blanchet, I suggest you call a doctor for a check–up, just to be safe.”  With that, she turned and went upstairs, back to her room.  Theo watched Ellinor’s thin figure, his expression complex.  Marissa, having been frightened, was helped into her room for a rest.  In the afternoon, their family doctor came to check on Marissa, took her blood pressure, and confirmed she was alright.  After the doctor left, a revived Marissa said, “Veronica, you go out, I have some words with your brother.”  Veronica was reluctant but left obediently at Theo’s stern look.  Now alone, Theo walked beside the bed, asking. “Do you feel unwell anywhere?”  Marissa looked up at her tall grandson and smiled kindly. “I’m fine, Theo, don’t worry.”  “I’m glad you’re okay.” Theo said.  Marissa asked, “Theo, how did you meet this Ellinor?”  “Coincidentally.” Theo said.  Marissa slowly nodded. “That girl is good, I like her.”  A hint of surprise flashed in Theo’s eyes, then he squinted, “Just because she just saved you?”  He remembered that before he came back, his grandmother had even punished her. Now she liked her?  Appreciation shone in Marissa’s eyes, “Ms. Mendoza is calm and composed, neither humble nor arrogant in front of me. Even when misunderstood by you, she didn’t freak out, and calmly apologized to me. She’s sensible and good.”  Indeed.  Theo thought about how he almost choked her just now, and didn’t say a word.  “Theo, you haven’t spent the night with her yet, have you?” Marissa asked.  The topic changed abruptly, and Theo’s face turned serious.  Marissa joked, “You’re almost thirty years old, what’s there to be shy about!”  Theo didn’t respond.  “Theo, I know, you rushed into this marriage to deal with your grandfather’s pressure, but I think the wife you chose is good. Marriage is no child’s play, you two need to get along.” Marissa said.  Theo didn’t explain anything to Marissa.  Marissa continued, “On your wedding day, I was abroad with your grandfather preparing for his surgery, so I couldn’t attend. Today, I’ll bear witness for you newlyweds, and you can move into your new house later. I hope when your grandfather recovers, he’ll see his grandson.”  Theo’s face was solemn, “Granny, I think…”  Marissa frowned, “If you don’t listen to me, I’ll tell your grandfather that you faked the marriage to deceive him! You know your grandfather’s temper, even after his surgery, he could hurt himself from anger.”  Theo rubbed his temples, “Granny, I’ll have dinner sent in later. You should rest after eating.”  With that, Theo turned to leave.  Chapter 15  Marissa didn’t give up. “I hope you two don’t disappoint me.”  When Theo returned to his room, he saw Ellinor sitting at the desk, writing something, not even looking up when he entered.  He walked behind her, looking at what she was writing. “Doing homework?”  Ellinor, focused on her work, retorted, “I’m copying your family rules! It’s the 21st century and your family still has rules, how outdated.”  Theo took her pen, “No need to copy, no one will punish you again.”  Ellinor stretched, “Then I go take a bath and sleep.” 

Chapter 14  Sheila was about to say, “My sister is.”  Suddenly, Veronica smelled the overpowering perfume from Sheila and started throwing up.  Seeing this, the maid quickly pushed Sheila away. “Keep your distance! We don’t have lime for you right now!”  “Miss, are you alright?” The maids carefully helped the weak Veronica, who was vomiting, into the room.  Sheila didn’t get any answers and was even pushed away, which made her very unhappy! But she didn’t dare to offend the people living  here.  The driver of the Blanchet family rolled down the window and kindly reminded, “You better scram, this ain’t a place for you to snoop  around.”  Sheila turned her head and asked, “Are you the driver here? Please tell me, who lives in this house?”  The driver was very cautious, “I can’t tell you who lives here, but I heard that they recently hired a bunch of new maids. Your sister might be one of them.”  Maids?  Did Ellinor come here to work as a maid? Wasn’t she an intern at Nexus Industries?  Before Sheila could ask more, the driver had already driven away.  The more she thought about it, the weirder it seemed. She called a classmate who worked at Nexus Industries and found out that Ellinor  had been fired.  So Ellinor really came here to work as a maid? Was it because being a maid required her to be on call all the time, that was why she had  to move in?  Ellinor’s ability was just that, and she bet she stole that expensive coat from her master!  Thinking about this, Sheila suddenly felt better and decided to go home and tell her father.  At the Blanchet family’s residence on the second floor.  Ellinor leaned lazily against the floor–to–ceiling window, watching Sheila leave, and a smirk appeared on her face!  The next day.  Around noon, an elegant elderly lady was helped out of a limousine and walked into the Blanchet family’s house.  Upon seeing the elderly lady, Veronica ran over, “Grandma, you’re finally here!”  “As soon as I got your call, I had someone book a flight this morning!” Marissa looked at her darling granddaughter with a worried expression, “Veronica, it’s only been a little while, how did you lose so much weight?”  Veronica complained, “Grandma, my brother’s new wife has been giving me pressure since she came in, and it made me go to the hospital.”  Marissa’s eyes widened with energy, “I want to see what’s so great about her, daring to bully my precious granddaughter! Someone, bring that Ellinor to me!”  Veronica helped Marissa to the sofa, snuggling up to her grandmother and whispering sweet words.  Soon, Ellinor was brought down by the butler.  “So you’re Ellinor?” Marissa looked her up and down.  Ellinor nodded. “Uh–huh, did you want to see me?”  Marissa’s gaze turned stern, “I heard that you bullied Veronica into the hospital? Just because you married into the family, you think. you’re the mistress of the Blanchet family now?”  Ellinor guessed the identity of the old woman and also had a rough idea of how Veronica twisted the facts.  She calmly explained, “Marissa, Veronica was the one who splashed dirty water on me first yesterday, I just defended myself. I didn’t bully her.”  Marissa turned to her granddaughter, “Veronica, is this true?”  Veronica shook her head with tears in her eyes, “Grandma, don’t listen to her making things up! There were many servants at home yesterday, they can all prove that I didn’t do anything wrong”  At Veronica’s signal, several maids immediately stepped forward.  I can vouch for Veronica, she didn’t bully Ellinor.”  “I can confirm that too!”  “And me!”  Marissa’s stem gaze turned back to Ellinor, “What do you have to say now?”
