Chapter 113  In the midst of the afternoon magazine shoot, Sheila started being a total diva.  She kept sending Ellinor on errands, having her run up and down the building like a hamster in a wheel  But Ellinor saw this coming a mile away so it didn’t really rock her boat.  She figured she was quick on her feet, so she took it as a form of exercise.  She didn’t agree to be Sheila’s assistant for the dough, but because she wanted a front row seat to how Sheila and Tracy got where they are today  She bet her bottom dollar that Sheila and Tracy had done some shady stuff to get ahead.  Sticking close to Sheila seemed like the best way to sniff out some dirt.  By the time the shoot wrapped up, night had already fallen,  Instead of hopping into Sheila’s car. Ellinor decided to hail a cah home.  “Ellinor Where the hell do you think you’re going? Who said you could leave?”  Sheila’s needle sharp voice echoed again, clearly not done with Ellinor.  Ellinor coolly turned around and said, “Isn’t it time for me to clock out?”  Sheila snorted, “Who said you could clock out? There’s no set off time for personal assistants, you’re off only when your boss is done!”  Ellinor took it in stride and asked, “So, have you got other work lined up?”  Sheila haughtily said, “No more work! But I have an upscale dinner to attend tonight and you’re coming with me. You might learn a thing or two!”  An upscale dinner?  Ellinor couldn’t care less  But who would’ve thought that Sheila, a second rate starlet, could rub elbows with high society?  Ellinor thought for a bit, “Alright then.”  Sheila broke into a satisfied grin. “Then get in! I’ve got a dress for you for tonight. Go change!!  “Okay”  Ellinor nodded and hopped into the car to change.  Sheila watched her with a cunning smile playing on her lips.  Tonight’s dinner was super swanky, with celebs from all over expected to attend.  Sheila had to pull a lot of strings to score an invite.  Because she heard Theo would be there tonight!  Ever since that wedding, she couldn’t get Theo out of her mind, feeling like she just missed the opportunity to become Mrs. Theol  What a shame!  Plus, she was curious about who the lucky lady was. The bride even lived in the same villa complex as them!  There was hardly any info online about the Blanchet family, and not a single photo of Theo. It was all very hush–hush.  What did Theo even look like?  She hoped to use tonight’s dinner as an opportunity to meet Mr. Blanchet.

Chapter 112  Sheila shot Ellinor a look, ready to throw a couple more insults her way, but was cut off by the sudden ring of her phone  It was a video call from their dad, Arnold Mendoza  Sheila waved her phone in front of Ellinor, bragging, “See, it’s Dad calling! I bet you hardly ever get calls from him, huh? Just shows that he doesn’t care about his illegitimate  daughter!”  Ellinor just shrugged and laughed, “Better answer it quick, sis, or your beloved dad might hang up.”  Sheila picked up, making sure Ellinor could hear  On–screen, Arnold and Tracy appeared, smiling at their celebrity daughter.  Amold asked with concern, “How’s work today, Sheila? Have you eaten yet?”  Sheila pouted, pretending to be upset, “Haven’t had the chance! I’ve been so busy, who has time for food?”  Arnold frowned. “You’ve got to eat! No matter how busy you are, health comes first!”  Tracy chimed in, “Sheila, your dad is night! if you really can’t, have some milk first We’ll be worried sick if you starve yourself.”  Sheila put on a wronged face, “Ive no appetite for anything but Dad’s cooking”  Arnold cooed, “Well, that’s easy I’ll cook for you when you get back from work!”  “But I’ll get home so late! You’ll be asleep…”  “Doesn’t matter! No matter how late, I’ll get up to cook for you!”  “Thanks, Dad I knew you loved me the most!”  “Alright, your mom and I won’t disturb you at work. Come home early tonight; I’ll cook for you!”  Just as Arnold was about to hang up, Sheila called him back.  “Wait, Dad! Look who’s here!”  She suddenly turned the camera to Ellinor.  Spotting his less accomplished daughter, Ellinor, Arnold frowned in disappointment, “Ellinor? What are you doing in Sheila’s car?”  Ellinor smiled, ready to talk to her father.  But Sheila didn’t give her the chance, turning the camera back to herself, “Dad, here’s the thing! I ran into Ellinor at the company today. She was there for a job interview. So I asked her to be my assistant! You know, family helps family!”  “Oh, I see! Sheila, turn the camera back. I’ve got something to say to your sister.”  Sheila did as told.  Arnold, looking at his younger daughter on screen, advised seriously. “Ellinor, your sister has given you a great opportunity. You should work hard! It’s much better than being someone else’s maid. It’s better to look after your sister than serve others. It’ll put me and Auntie Tracy at ease!”  Ellinor felt the irony, but she just smiled sweetly, “Tll be sure to appreciate my sister’s help”  Sheila’s pride was evident as she excitedly bragged, “See? I’m Dad’s favorite. No matter what I do, he forgives me. He treats me like a princess‘ But you, no matter how good or hardworking you are, no matter how much you try to please him, you can’t get his attention!”  Ellinor closed her eyes, choosing to ignore her.  Sheila felt she hadn’t vented enough and added, “Ellinor, nobody in this world could love you!”  Ellinor gripped her water bottle tightly, “So what? Should I die if no one loves me?*  Sheila scoffed, “No one would care whether you live or die No one would mourn your death! What’s the use of being a top graduate? In the end, aren’t you just my assistant? Ellinor, you better behave yourself, or I’ll have Dad kick you out of the Mendoza family!”  Without batting an eyelid, Ellinor replied, “Do as you wish, sis I’ll be waiting”  Sheila glared at Ellinor’s nonchalant look, feeling unsatisfied.  But she figured there was no need to deal with her right away. She had plenty of time and opportunities to knock her down a peg or two in the future! 

Chapter 111  The minute Sheila heard this, she immediately jumped in, “Mr. Fang, she’s looking for a job, right? Why doesn’t she come work with me? I really need an assistant right now!” Manager Fang seemed a bit troubled, “Well..”  After all, Ellinor was brought in by Collin. It seemed inappropriate to have her serve as a personal assistant  “Sheila, I appreciate your thought. But it might not work because Ms Mendoza is…”  “How much is the monthly salary for an assistant?” Ellinor cut off Manager Fang’s words and asked  Manager Fang was clearly surprised by Ellinor’s question. He found this girl’s behavior quite odd.  She was not interested in becoming an artist but was somewhat interested in becoming an artist’s assistant?  Sheila glanced at Ellinor smugly. “As my assistant, the monthly salary is three to four thousand‘ Don’t worry, I won’t shortchange you!”  Hearing this price, Ellinor lost interest, she leaned back in her chair and said, “The pay is too low, I’m not doing it!”  She had seen through Sheila’s concerns  Sheila frowned. “You think three to four thousand is low? How much do you want then?”  Ellinor yawned, casually raising a finger, “Ten thousand!”  4  Sheila acted like she had heard a joke. She rolled her eyes and scoffed, “Ten thousand? You want a ten thousand salary for being an assistant. In your dreams!”  Ellinor ignored her, turned to Manager Fang, and asked, “Manager Fang, did you say I could sign up to become an artist earlier? I’m guessing an artist’s salary should be pretty high, right?”  Manager Fang, seeing her interest in becoming an artist, immediately smiled, “Of course! You’ll not only earn a salary but also a high percentage of the income.”  Ellinor looked excited, “That sounds great, then I’ll  Seeing this, Sheila started to get anxious. “Alright, ten thousand a month, come be my assistant!”  Ellinor looked at Sheila, smiling. “Can I get an advance on my first month’s salary?”  Sheila’s face dropped and she murmured, “Ellinor, don’t push it!”  Ellinor ignored her and turned to Manager Fang  “Manager Fang, I’ve decided, I think becoming an artist…”  “Fine! You can get an advance on your salary!” Sheila grudgingly agreed.  Ellinor smiled satisfactorily. She said, “Thank you, please advance me my first month’s salary!”  Sheila held back her anger and forced a smile. She transferred the money to Ellinor, all the while thinking about how to get back at this crafty gall  Manager Fang was somewhat confused by the situation between the two girls. He didn’t want to get involved, but he did really want to keep the seemingly very talented Ellinor  “Ms Mendoza, are you sure you want to be an artist’s assistant? It’s a tough job. You should consider becoming an artist.”  Sheila had already transferred the ten thousand in advance to her account. Ellinor gave a satisfactory smile, then politely declined. “I really appreciate your kindness. But I’m not really good at the arts. I think being an assistant suits me better”  Manager Fang sighed regretfully, “Alright”  What a pity if she had decided to debut, she would definitely have been a hit!  Sheila hurriedly pulled Ellinor out of the company, fearing any further complications.  In the car.  Ellinor, who had received her salary, naturally slipped into the role of an assistant. She handed Sheila a bottle of soda, ‘What are you so nervous about? Have a drink to calm down!”  Sheila felt she had been duped out of ten thousand dollars and wasn’t very happy. She glared at Ellinor discontentedly, I’m not nervous! What do you know?! Don’t try to guess my feelings with your shallow understanding!”  “Not nervous? Then why were you in such a rush to pull me out? Were you worried that Manager Fang would really sign me up?”  “Ellinor, don’t think you’re something special just because Manager Fang wants to sign you! Even if you became an artist, you wouldn’t amount to anything! I was worried that your inappropriate behavior would disgrace the Mendoza family!  Ellinor raised an eyebrow, “Really?” 

Chapter 110  “To work? Aren’t you a nanny at some wealthy person’s home?”  “My employer is hardly ever home. And there’s not much to do around the house So, I thought I’d find a side gig to make some extra dough  Sheila gave Ellinor a once–over with a mocking smirk on her face. Seeing Ellinor looking for extra work made her laugh, “You need a side gro? Looks like your employer isn’t paying you much, huh?”  Ellinor nodded. “Yeah, not much”  “What’s up, Sheila? Why are you still hanging around the door? Aren’t you supposed to be shooting a magazine cover?”  A frendly middle–aged man’s voice came from the office.  Sheila turned her head, giving the man inside a flirtatious laugh, “I was just leaving, but someone’s blocking the door!”  “Blocking the door? Let me see who dares block our star’s way!”  The manager. Mr Fang came out, ready to scold an ignorant subordinate. But when he saw Ellinor standing at the office door, he froze.  He’d worked in the entertainment industry for years and seen many beauties, but he was rarely taken by a woman’s looks  But a girl with a bare face like the one at the door was a rare sight in the entertainment circle.  “You are Mr. Fang collected himself and asked her  Ellinor introduced herself politely. “Mr. Fang, my name is Ellinor. Someone told me to come see you and said you’d arrange a job for me  Mr. Fang paused, “Ellinor? So it’s you! Come in!”  Collin had just called him to arrange a job for a girl named Ellinor.  Though Collin hadn’t specified who this Ellinor was, anyone who had Mr Blanchet’s right hand man, Collin, personally arranging a job for them must be special. He couldn’t afford to neglect her  Ellinor followed Mr. Fang into the office.  Sheila was left at the office door, looking displeased.  She thought Mr. Fang would come out and give Ellinor a piece of his mind!  But not only did Mr. Fang look at Ellinor like a dirty old man, but he also cordially invited her into the office, leaving her hanging!  What the hell was going on?!  Sheila felt uncomfortable So she didn’t leave and turned back into Mr. Fang’s office  She wanted to see what kind of job Ellinor would be doing  “Ms. Mendoza what kind of position are you interested in?” Mr. Fang asked Ellinor from behind his desk  Ellinor replied, “Anything is fine, as long as it pays well!”  Mr Fang looked at her somewhat regretfully, thinking, “Ms. Mendoza, have you ever considered being an artist? I’ve noticed you’re quite attractive. If you’re willing to debut as an artist. I believe you have a bright future”  An artist?  Ellinor frowned, “I’m not interested in that! Are there other positions?”  She was just here to get by She’d leave after three months and had no intention of staying long–term.  Sheila immediately felt threatened when she heard Mr. Fang’s intentions to sign Ellinor.  Even though she despised Ellinor and didn’t want to admit that she was beautiful. But in this situation, she had to face reality and be on guard.  If Ellinor could also sign with the Blanchet Corporation and make her debut, she might steal her thunder.  No, she absolutely couldn’t let that happen! 

Chapter 109  Collin had just parked the car when he suddenly got a phone call. His face turned serious in an instant and he said, ‘Ill be right there”  After hanging up, he turned to Ellinor apologetically. Ms Mendoza, something urgent has come up and I can’t accompany you anymore. Just go in by yourself and look for Manager Fang Tell him I sent you, and he’ll take care of you”  Ellinor quickly nodded flashed an OK sign, and then exited the car  Collin sped off in a rush, driving really fast.  Ellinor watched his car pull away and raised an eyebrow wondering if something urgent had really come up. Maybe something happened to Theo?  This was an entertainment company under the Blanchet Corporation Ellinor walked into the lobby and explained her purpose to the receptionist.  The receptionist glanced at her and then called Manager Fang to confirm the situation.  “Ms Mendoza, please follow me  The receptionist led Ellinor to the manager’s office  “Ms Mendoza, Manager Fang is currently in a meeting with one of our artists. Please wait outside until they’re done!  Ellinor nodded, “Alright.”  After explaining everything the receptionist returned to her post.  Ellinor quietly waited at the door.  Not far away in the break room, two girls were chatting while waiting for their coffee  “Did you hear our company just signed Sheila Mendoza?”  “How could I not know! Sheila is the hottest female artist now!”  “She’s definitely hot! But it’s mainly because her previous scandal hit the trending list, and then she managed to clear her name these past few days. I really don’t know why the company would want to sign someone with a bad reputation like Sheila!”  “Who cares about a bad reputation? She’s still very famous! Her value has skyrocketed because of this incident! In this era, no one cares about reputation, as long as you can make money, you’re a good artist!”  “Speaking of Sheila, she was here just now. She might be in a meeting with Manager Fang in his office!  *Really?  The two girls returned to their posts with their coffees.  Ellinor overheard the news and started thinking  So the artist in the office was Sheila.  She saw yesterday on social media how smug Tracy Mendoza and her daughter Sheila were about signing with the Blanchet Corporation.  But she had a hunch that something was off  In the previous scandal video, the woman sitting on the investor’s lap was Sheila Now, it was said to be someone who looked very similar to her The woman in the video was identified as a web celebrity who had plastic surgery to look like Sheila.  Not only did Sheila gain a lot of attention from this, but she also successfully cleared her name.  This seemingly simple operation of clearing one’s name actually required a lot of manpower and financial support Tracy and Sheila’s money alone wouldn’t be enough to pull it off.  If Sheila was able to get this much attention, Tracy must have done something underhanded.  At this moment, the office door opened.  The glamorous Sheila walked out of the manager’s office with a smile. As soon as she saw the person standing outside the door, her smile froze, and then she frowned unhappily  “Ellinor, what are you doing here?!”  Ellinor smiled and said, “I’m here to work! 

Chapter 108  The maid answered “Ellinor, Marissa Blanchet is about to hit the road”  Was Marissa leaving?  Ellinor was worried about whether Marissa had been affected by yesterday’s incident with Veronica Blanchet. Then she heard Marissa calling her name in a soft voice.  “Ellinor”  She lifted her head and saw Marissa sauntering over from across the room.  “Granny. I heard you’re about to split?”  Manssa smiled gently, sighing. “Yeah, I gotta jet. I need to go look after your grandpa. The stubborn old man hasn’t followed the doctor’s orders since his surgery He needs  me  “Oh, I see” Upon hearing this, Ellinor didn’t insist on Marissa staying. “Well, take care of yourself, Granny Watch your step.”  Manssa nodded and held her hand gently. “Ellinor, I know you’ve been having a rough time. Veronica really crossed the line! Don’t worry. I’m gonna ship her off to her grandpa’s. She won’t be a nuisance to you guys anymore”  It’s rare to find an elder who doesn’t play favorites when it comes to their grandkids, even in the face of right and wrong  Ellinor felt moved. “Thanks for understanding Granny.”  “After I leave, you and Theo have to keep your chins up, alright?”  Keep their chins up?  Ellinor was puzzled. She didn’t immediately understand what “keep your chins up” meant. Seeing the meaningful smile on Marissa’s face, she blushed  She giggled awkwardly, “Don’t worry, Granny, we will  Marissa laughed. Tll be waiting for some good news then!”  -Sure!  Granny was definitely going to be disappointed. There was absolutely no chance of any good news between her and Theo  By the time Granny comes back, her agreement with Theo would have expired and she would be leaving.  Theo Blanchet sent Collin to take Marissa to the airport.  Considering how kind Marissa had been to her, Ellinor decided to accompany them to the airport.  After bidding goodbye to Marissa, Ellinor came out of the airport. Collin handed her a job application form in the car.  “Ms. Mendoza, Mr. Blanchet knows you’ll be looking for a job after college. He asked me to arrange one for you.”  Ellinor was surprised. She looked down at the form in her hand, “So what job are you arranging for me?”  As he started the car, Collin replied, “Ms. Mendoza, fill out this form first. After that, I’ll have the HR department arrange a suitable job based on your application.”  Working for the Blanchet Corporation was undoubtedly a golden opportunity, but Ellinor didn’t seem interested.  However, she might be able to break free from Theo’s control within the three–month agreement period. She might as well go along with his plan.  After some thought, Ellinor put down the form, ‘Nah, I won’t fill it out. I’m not picky about jobs. As long as it pays well!”  Collin couldn’t help but admire Ms. Mendoza’s straightforwardness. He smiled and said, “Alright then, I’ll arrange a job for you as soon as possible.”  “No need to wait, arrange it now! I have nothing to do back home anyway!”  Alright.”  So, Collin drove her to a subsidiary of the Blanchet Corporation.  Chapter 109  Collin had just parked the car when he

All she could think about was how she was still in her clothes and had gone to sleep without a shower She felt gross all over  So she got up, grabbed some clean clothes from her closet, and headed straight to the bathroom  There was steam and the sound of running water in the bathroom it was warm and burnid  Did she forget to turn off the tap when she came back home?  Ellinor walked further in to check the tub and then she saw a man’s naked body.  The man showering heard her and quickly turned around. Their eyes met – one set cold and dark, the other shocked and embarrassed  Ellinor’s sleepiness vanished in an instant. She was wide awake.  She gasped and quickly turned around, “You why didn’t you lock the door?”  Theo replied coldly. Ms Mendoza, I believe this is my room. I’m taking a shower in my room, why should lock the door? Why didn’t you knock before coming in?” Ellinor was both embarrassed and angry…You hardly ever stay here. I’ve gotten used to being alone. How was I supposed to know you were showering?  “I’m showering, and you just barged in. I didn’t get mad, and yet you’re the one blaming me?”  Fair point!  “Ms. Mendoza, aren’t you going to leave? Or are you planning to join me?”  Ellinor scoffed, quickly exited the bathroom, and slammed the door shut!  The scent of soap made her blush. She wanted to forget what she had just seen!  The shock reminded Ellinor of something  She faintly remembered falling asleep on the subway and him not waking her up when they reached the station. Did he carry her back from the subway station?  Thinking of this, Ellinor became even more embarrassed.  She woke up early today for her graduation ceremony, and the day had been full of events. First, she was framed by Veronica, then she had to prove her innocence at the police station, then she had to attend a reunion and was forced to play the violin.  She was genuinely exhausted, that’s why she fell asleep on the subway.  The fact that he didn’t just leave her alone on the subway was already a big deal!  Then, Theo came out of the bathroom, dressed in a bathrobe, smelling fresh.  Ellinor silently went into the bathroom to avoid the awkward face–to–face encounter.  When she came out after her shower, Theo was already asleep on the sofa.  They had to sleep like this since Marissa was home, and they couldn’t sleep in separate rooms.  He slept, and Ellinor went back to bed  The next day  When Ellinor woke up. Theo was nowhere to be found in the room.  She didn’t mind, she felt more comfortable when he wasn’t home.  As she came out of the room, she saw the Blanchet family’s maid carrying a suitcase downstairs.  Ellinor found it strange and asked, “Whose luggage is that?” 

Chapter 106  Ellinor seemed to be feeling worn out and said slowly  “I hope you can try to trust me in the future, don’t always be on quard, thinking I’d stray to other men. I need some personal space! I’ve told you that since I’ve agreed to work with you for the next three months, I won’t do anything to harm you before the contract ends. You can rest assured  Theo asked, “Do you think I came to see you today because I don’t trust you?”  Ellinor looked up and glanced at the man. “What else? If you trusted me, you wouldn’t have stuck around with us all day and kept an eye on me in our booth, it was super awkward for my classmates!”  Theo said lightly, “Ms Mendoza, we may be business partners, but during the next three months, I will inevitably share some responsibility for your safety I don’t doubt your character, it’s the guys hanging around you that I don’t trust Can’t you see they’re after something?”  Ellinor shrugged off his concerns, Tm not a fool, of course I can see what they’re up to. But I know how to handle it.”  Theo snorted. “You know how to handle it, then why did you take the drink they offered so readily?”  “It was just a cocktail!”  Ellinor genuinely thought Theo was overthinking!  “Just a drink?” Theo’s eyebrows knitted together in disapproval “How do you know there’s nothing slipped into that drink? You’re an adult, shouldn’t you know better than to accept drinks from strangers in a messy place like this? Do I need to remind you?”  Ellinor was stunned and caught off guard by his lecture.  Did he see himself as her guardian now after attending her graduation ceremony as one today?  Since her mother passed away, she hasn’t had anyone to take care of her.  Her father barely paid attention to her and only cared if she’d embarrass the Mendoza family’s reputation.  It had been a long time since anyone had spoken to her in such a caring tone.  Ellinor snapped back, “So, if you offered me a drink, I shouldn’t take it either?”  Theo paused for two seconds, then squinted, “Am I the same as the others?”  Ellinor chuckled. You’re definitely not like the others! You obviously have no shortage of women, you don’t need to resort to dirty tricks to get them, the key point is that.. you’re not interested in me, so you wouldn’t stoop to such tactics, right?”  Theo replied casually, “Ms. Mendoza seems to understand quite well.”  Ellinor snorted, “You’re a strange one! One moment you’re mocking me and saying no one would dare marry me, the next you’re worried someone might spike my drink.”  Theo instantly responded, “There are plenty of men in the world, someone might end up liking you.”  Ellinor replied, “Well, thanks for your concern!”  Her voice gradually softened  Then, Theo felt a weight on his shoulder, a small head had fallen asleep there..  Ellinor was just too tired and dozed off  She had been tired since the beginning  Theo turned to look at the first girl who dared rest her head on his shoulder, his face expressionless, but he didn’t disturb her.  When Ellinor woke up, she found herself lying in a comfy bed.  It was still dark outside  How did she get back?  She tried to recall, but she couldn’t remember anything from the subway trip to the Blanchet family’s house 

Chapter 105  Ellinor walked slowly with Theo towards the waiting area. She couldn’t help but laugh again when she saw him hang up on Collin  Theo heard and shot a cold glare at her, “What’s so funny now?”  Ellinor giggled. “I was wondering, if you rich folks went bankrupt, would you even lose your basic survival skills?”  Theo frowned. “Are you mocking me?”  Ellinor nodded honestly. “Yup! I got you just standing there clueless in front of the ticket machine on camera It’s perfect for showing grandma back home!  Theo roared. “Ellinor!”  Ellinor pulled out her phone and showed him the photo, waving it in front of him, “Look, you were hilarious!”  Suddenly, a boy on a skateboard rushed past.  “Watch out!”  Before Ellinor could react, she was yanked aside, falling into a warm, sturdy embrace and narrowly avoiding the skateboarder  The skater glanced back but quickly skated away without stopping  Theo looked down at the woman in his arms who had just been mocking him, ‘Ms. Mendoza, were you too busy laughing at others to watch where you’re going?” Ellinor couldn’t find the words to respond, as she had indeed been very careless  Theo added, “No phones while walking and stay on the inside.”  Ellinor put away her phone and obediently moved to the inside, “Thank you, but I’m not deleting the photo!”  Theo snorted, glancing at her, seemingly indifferent about the photo.  The subway was not too crowded at night, with many seats available  Ellinor and Theo found a quiet spot to sit  Perhaps because of Theo’s striking looks and his top tier designer suit, he naturally became the center of attention.  Women sneaked glances at him, even men couldn’t help but stare.  Theo seemed oblivious, turning a blind eye.  After a few stops, the car was pretty empty.  With the quiet atmosphere, it was a bit awkward.  Ellinor’s phone was out of battery. Left without her go–to distraction, she noticed Theo silently staring at her.  It made her uncomfortable.  “Can we discuss something?” Ellinor tried to break the ice.  Theo replied, “Shoot.” 

Chapter 104  Amold and Tracy both looked out of the car window when they heard Sheila’s surprised voice  Tracy said, ‘Amold look, that’s Ellinor!
