Chapter 439  Liliana was always overshadowed by Serenity when Serenity worked at the law firm. Serenity shone so brightly that it made Liliana feel invisible.  Now, Liliana would make sure everybody in the law firm get a good look at Serenity. She wanted them to see what the so- called pride of the female lawyers from back then looked like now!  She wanted to let the people in the law firm know how wrong they were!  That was the only way her anger could be quelled.  Just then, a nurse passed by, and the co–worker who was talking to Liliana asked the nurse, “Excuse me, a staff member told us earlier that ultrasound room is not open for medical checkups, but a nurse clearly led someone who’s here for a medical checkup to that room. What’s going on?”  “Oh, that person must have booked our hospital’s VIP medical checkup package,” answered the nurse.  “VIP medical checkup package?” The co–worker looked stunned. She asked, “How much does that cost?”  “It depends on the package, but even the cheaper ones cost tens of thousands of dollars. The expensive ones can go up to six figures. If you want to know more, you can ask the special consultation desk on the 6th floor.” The nurse left after saying that The co–worker looked astonished. She turned around and saw Liliana’s similarly shocked face.  “Lily, is she really just a delivery rider? A medical checkup that cost tens of thousands of dollars was not something that the average person could afford.  “That’s impossible!” Liliana exclaimed, her face twisted in rage. “How can she afford a VIP medical checkup package?”  “But we did see her go into that ultrasound room,” the co–worker said.  Some of their co–workers nearby turned their eyes towards Liliana too.  Liliana realized that she had reacted too strongly. Chapter 4,38  When they arrived, the hospital staff was already waiting for them. All Serenity had to do was follow the nurse.  And 30, the mirse guided Serenity through the whole process of drawing blood, getting X–ray, getting ultrasound, and so on, Jackson waited for Serenity in the VIP lounge of the Health Screening Center.  As the nurse led Serenity to various departments to perform tests, Serenity saw long queues at the entrances of several of the departments,  According to the nurse, some companies were also conducting their medical checkups there, so it was a very busy day.  Serenity followed the nurse to the ultrasound department. There were long queues outside several of the ultrasound rooms. The nurse led Serenity towards a room with no queue.  “Serenity!” Suddenly, a voice called out.  Serenity turned around and saw Liliana Granger. She was queuing in one of the lines.  Serenity was surprised to see Liliana. Was she there for a medical checkup too? Then Serenity looked at the people around Liliana. Sure enough, she saw the familiar faces of some of her old co–workers from the law firm.  What a coincidence. It seemed like the law firm was also conducting a medical checkup there today.  Liliana spoke a few words to the person next to her, then jogged over to Serenity. “What a surprise to see you here! Are you here to deliver food?”  “No, I came for a medical checkup,” said Serenity.  “A medical checkup, huh…” Liliana scrutinized Serenity. Serenity was indeed not in her work clothes today. She was dressed much more nicely. “That’s great. You probably haven’t done any medical checkups after getting released from prison, so you should really get one.”  Liliana pretended to say with a regretful face, “The queue is really long today. I thought about letting you cut in front of me so that you could save some time, but that would be unfair for the people behind me. Sorry, Serenity,”  Serenity was rather amused. If Liliana really was sorry, she did not have to say those things at all.  “That’s okay. I never thought about cutting in line anyway,” replied Serenity.  The nurse next to Serenity said, “Ms. Lewis, should we go into the ultrasound room first? The doctor is waiting.”  “Okay,” answered Serenity. She followed the nurse into an ultrasound room.  Liliana looked dumbfounded. What’s going on? Why did the nurse lead Serenity into that ultrasound room? Earlier, she inquired about why no one was lining up in front of that room, but the hospital staff told her that that the room was not open for medical checkups  Then how come Serenity could po in?  Liliana returned to her own queue gloomily. The coworker who was queuing up next to her asked, “Lily, was that our firm’s former employee that you said went to prison? Is she here for a medical checkup too? How come she didn’t queue up at the back and instead went into that empty ultrasound room?”  “Who knows?” Liliana answered with a pout.  “Lily, is she really working as a food delivery rider now that she’s out of prison?” the coworker asked curiously to confirm the rumors she heard.  “Yeah. Star’s delivered food to our office a few times before. Next Monday, I’ll order takeout from her restaurant again to give them some business,” Liliana said with a smile. She would make sure Serenity made a fool of herself when the time came. 

Chapter 437  1/1  Before she went to prison, all the clothes in her closet were either formal clothes for work or the type of clothes that Zeke Shaw liked. She barely had any clothes that she herself liked.  It was as if she was trying so hard to please other people that she forgot to please herself.  “I wish I get to know you sooner,” Jackson suddenly muttered.  If he had known her sooner, they might have started off on the right foot and she wouldn’t have to go to prison for three years. He also wouldn’t have to feel apprehensive of her finding out about certain things.  Serenity felt like Jackson’s eyes currently contained a lot of emotions that she could not decipher.  “Alright, let’s go,” he said and helped her down the stairs. She skipped breakfast today because she had to go to the hospital on an empty stomach for the medical checkup.  Jackson led Serenity to the car. In the car, he watched her tie her hair with the scrunchie he bought yesterday. It was just a simple black scrunchie, but unlike the old one, the rubber band inside wasn’t showing  That made him feel much better.  She was obviously important to him, but why had he not noticed these things before? The thought of her wearing a scrunchie that was so old that the rubber band inside was showing made him feel upset.  He had never experienced this kind of feeling before. She was the only one who could make him feel upset because he let her wear a torn scrunchie even though he possessed virtually limitless wealth.  If she hadn’t gone to prison in the first place, all this would not have happened.  He was not the entire cause of her tragedy, but he was not entirely blameless either.  “How’s the scrunchie?” Jackson tried asking casually.  “It’s pretty goud,” answered Serenity. Even though it was expensive, Its quality was indeed much better than the quality of the ones she bought from roadside stalls,  “Good to know I’ll get someone to buy you scrunchies of various other brands later so that you can compare them and see which one you like more,” he said.  “There’s no need for that. Those you bought me yesterday will last for a long time,” Serenity quickly refused.  “Consider it my way of spoiling you. Isn’t it natural for a boyfriend to buy his girlfriend stuff?” asked Jackson.  Serenity’s heart started beating faster. She felt a sweetness that came froin the bottom of her heart.  Spoiling her… She did not remember anyone ever saying that to her except for her mother. Even Zeke Shaw never said that kind of thing to her back when they were dating even though he would buy her branded things.  At that time, she thought that was his way of spoiling her, his way of loving her.  But thinking back on it now, perhaps Zeke Shaw was just trying to dress her in a way that would match his status.  Well, even though she kept telling herself to be strong and independent, deep down, she still hoped to be pampered.  After arriving at the hospital, Jackson brought Serenity to the hospital’s Health Screening Center, Herause Jackson booked a VIP medical checkup session for Serenity, she did not have to queue up and could go in right away through the VIP channel.
