Chapter 84  That night, Serenity’s muffled scream woke Jackson up. He turned on the light and found that she was not sleeping peacefully. She seemed to be muttering something under her breath  However, her words were so slurred that he could not make out what she was saying.  “Sis!” he called out to her. He felt her forehead with his hand and found that it was wet with sweat. Her forehead seemed to be  a bit hot too.  Jackson quickly grabbed a towel, soaked it in warm water, squeezed it dry, and used it to wipe Serenity’s forehead.  Her eyes were still tightly closed as she kept mumbling  No matter how hard he tried to rouse her, her eyes never opened.  He pursed his lips. Anxiety washed over him. He did not know what he could do to make her feel better.  It was the first time he had ever felt so worried for a woman.  2  He grabbed his phone and called his secretary, Connor Gunn. Connor thus received a call from his boss at z. a.m. in the moming  “Connor, call a doctor and bring him to Serenity Lewis‘ apartment Immediately. Serenity is having a fever.” Jackson’s voice carried a hint of anxiety  “Right now?” Connor was flabbergasted.  “Yes, right now,” said Jackson.  What else could Connor say? He could only contact a doctor right away. He then left the warmth of his bed in the middle of the night to bring the doctor to the apartment  Connor was very careful when he knocked on the door. After all, Jackson did not want Serenity to discover his true identity,  The door was quickly opened. Jackson moved aside to let the doctor and Connor in  Once inside, Connar saw Serenity lying on the bed with her eyes closed. She did not seem to be awake.  “Take a look at her and see what’s wrong with her. I can’t wake her up,” said Jackson,  Connor could feel that his boss had lost some of his usual composure.  The doctor Connor brought was an experienced family doctor. Although he did not know Jackson’s identity, he knew who  Connor was  He thought he would be inspecting a patient in a mansion, but Connor actually brought him to a tiny studio apartment.  After giving Serenity a basic examination and hearing from them that Serenity had fallen down the escalator earlier, the doctor said, “It’s nothing serious. The fever is probably caused by an inflammation from today’s injury. I’ll prescribe some anti–fever medicine for her. If her fever hasn’t gone down by tomorrow, she’ll have to go to a hospital for further  examination.”  “Thank you,” said Jackson.  Connor then sent the doctor home whille Jackson remained in the house. He poured a cup of warm water to feed Serenity the  medicine.  On the way out, Connor happened to see his boss carrying the medicine and water to the bed.  Connor was slightly taken aback. When had Mr. Valor ever taken care of someone like this? And she’s not just any person,  she’s a woman  Was Mr. Valor really not in love with Serenity Lewis? Or was he actually in love with her but he hadn’t realized it yet?!
