Chapter 340  In the past, Jackson would never leave the Valor Residence in the evening on this day no matter what. De would stay in front of his fathers portrait the whole night to remind himself not to repeat his father’s mistake.  He would do this every year.  But this evening, things have changed!  Jackson led Serenity out of the hospital.  A black car was at the entrance of the hospital. After getting into the car,  dream she thought this evening would become a nightmare, but su still felt like everything that happened was a  he showed up.  “Scared?” He asked while holding her hand. Even now, her hand was still slightly trembling  Serenity bit her lower lip, then nodded her head. Yes, how can she not be scared? Her fate was completely left in the bands of others. She felt so powerless  As if a single word from others could determine her life and death.  “I got careless today,” Jackson said, “I thought the old man wouldn’t touch you so quickly. He’s more anxious than I thought, and I didn’t expect him today of all days.”  She was stumped. “Today… What’s so special about today?”  When she asked this question, his expression changed slightly. He pursed his thin lips and his deep, beautiful eyes stared right at her, as if he wanted to devour her whole.  The atmosphere in the car suddenly became oppressive.  Serenity uncomfortably tried to pull her hand back, but Jackson Lightened his grip. He simply stared at her for a while without saying a word, then looked out the window.  Serenity was puzzled. Was it something he could not say?  Just now, when he stared at her, she felt as if she had said something tabou.  The car arrived at the Valor Residence, and Serenity followed Jackson out of the car.  “It’s getting late. Get some rest. The old man has made a move on you today and he already got his answer, which means he won’t do anything to you again for the time being, so you don’t have to be scared anymore,” said Jackson. He was the old man’s grandson after all. After thinking about it a little, he could already figure out why the old man chose to do this today of all days.  Serenity nodded. Jacksun walked Serenity back to the room. After she entered the room, she noticed that he was not going back to his room next door, but was walking to the stairs on the other side.  He was going back downstairs?  Serenity was surprised.  That night, she lay in bed tossing and turning but unable to fall asleep.  She could not stop thinking of Jackson walking towards the stairs. Where was he going? Why didn’t he go back to his room? He felt a little different today, for some reason.  She sat up and looked hesitatingly at the dour separating the two rooms.  If she opened the door, she would be able to see if he had gone back to his own room, but…  Stop being so curious! Curiosity kills the cat! Especially when it involved a man like Jackson Valor!  She kept telling herself that, but in the end, she could not help it..  All she saw was darkness. Through the light from her own room, she saw that, sure enough, there was no one there. 

Chapter 339  Didn’t she choose to study law in order to uphold justice? But now, she could not even uphold justice for herself.  “A wise decision,” the man laughed and said.  Serenity’s hands clenched into fists. So this is what it felt like to be powerless!  The closer the dagger moved towards her face, the harder she trembled. She abruptly ducked under the man’s arm and dashed towards the door of the ward.  When she opened the door, she was grabbed and held down by the two bodyguards who were guarding the door.  The man walked up in Serenity and mocked, “I thought you had guts, but it turns out you were just waiting for an opportunity to run away. But, like you said, you can’t escape.”  Yes, she could not escape, but even if she was just a lamb waiting for slaughter, she wanted to give herself a chance to fight  back.  Serenity was dragged back into the ward once more. When the dagger was going to cut her face for real this time, the door was suddenly kicked open  A figure walled in and went straight towards Serenity. In the blink of an eye, the dagger changed hunds and the secretary was kicked away.  “Aren’t you being a little rash, Grandpa?” While playing with the dagger, Jackson asked Master Zack who was still half lying on the bed. I thought I told you not to touch her?”  Master Zack seemned unperturbed, as if he expected this to happen.  “She’s not right for you.”  “Whether she’s right for me is up to me, not up to you,” said Jackson. He then turned to Serenity and asked, “Are you hurt?”  Serenity shook her head. He came just in time to stop her from getting hurt.  The secretary who tried to hurt Serenity got up fruen the floor in pain, Jackson walked over to him and said, “You should thank your lucky star you didn’t hurt her, or you’ll regret it for the rest of your life, I promise you that.”  He kicked the man on the chest and stepped on him. “But I still need to teach you a lesson,” he said. He threw away the dagger and raised his fist, then punched the man’s face repeatedly.  The man was a tough guy, but he was obviously in a lot of pain.  “Count yourself lucky. If I wasn’t worried that she would feel uncomfortable If she saw blood, I would have done something much worse to you than just punching you a few times.” After Jackson was done, le grabbed Serenity’s hand and led her out  of the ward.  “Cough…” Master Zack yelled, “Do you want to go down the same path as your father?”  Jackson stopped in his tracks for a moment, but he quickly started walking away again.  “Cough cough cough cough…” Master Zack coughed incessantly. What he did today was only a test to see how important the woman was to his grandson.  If the woman was not important, it would not matter if he really ruined her face, but if his grandson came, then it meant that the woman… was very, very important to his grandson  Because today was the birthday of the woman whan gave birth to farlison. 

Chapter 338  At the moment, the atmosphere in the ward was quiet. No one made a sound. She could tell that Master Zack was observing her very seriously, but there also seemed to be a bit of disdain and disgust in his eyes,  Next to Master Zack, in addition to a nurse, was the man who brought her here. He claimed to be Master Zack’s personal secretary.  “Do you know why I brought you here?” After a while, Master Zack finally broke the silence.  “I know,” answered Serenity, “It’s because of Jackson, right?” She would be lying if she said she wasn’t nervous and apprehensive on the way here, but now that she had arrived and had seen the disdain in Master Zack’s eyes, she managed to calm down for some reason  She had already been through the worst possible experience. How bad could this be?  Master Zack harrumphed, “I’m glad you know that!”  “What do you want to say to me? Serenity went straight to the point. She was tired, so she did not want to beat around the bush.  “I can’t believe he would let you stay in the Valor Residence. Do you really think a woman like you can join the Valor family? Master Zack remarked coldly.  Serenity now understood that the old man brought her here to make sure she knew her place.  She lowered her head and said nothing. He would not believe anything she said anyway.  Because she was silent, Master Zack turned to his secretary and asked, “What does my grandson even see in this woman?”  “I’m not sure, but there must be something outstanding about her,” the secretary replied.  The old man waved his hand and said as if he was tired, “I don’t see anything outstanding. I don’t like her face. Destroy it. Let’s see if Jackson still wants her after that.”  “Yes, sir,” the secretary answered.  Serenity looked up at Master Zack in shock and shuddered.  He wanted to destroy her face. An old man like him said those words so calmly, as if it was something very ordinary.  Then, Serenity smiled bitterly. She almost forgot that Master Zack was once the shot–caller in Solaria. He would not bring her here just to say a few threatening words.  Did she expect the old man to send her home after giving her a warning?  The secretary took out a dagger from his coat and walked slowly towards Serenity. Serenity looked at him without a trace of panic on her face. She did not beg for mercy either. She just sat there quietly.  Master Zack was a little surprised to see her reaction.  “You’re not running away?” the secretary asked after he walled up to Serenity,  “I can’t escape,” she said calmly. Since he was someone that Master Zack kept by his side and someone that Master Zack would entrust such a task to, he must be really skilled. On the other hand, Serenity was just an ordinary woman.  Besides, even if she managed to escape from the ward, could she escape from the hospital?  Her mind told her to resign herself to her fate, but her heart was indignant. Why must she be at the mercy of others like this? They were both human beings, but when he wanted to lay hands on her, she could not even retaliate! 

Chapter 337  “Thanks,” Serenity took the book and said.  “I’m the one who should be thanking you,” said Clara, “Yanny doesn’t communicate much with strangers. Because he can’t hear or speak, people are also reluctant to communicate with him. I’m so glad you’re willing to learn sign language to  communicate with him.”  “Yanny is very lovable. He also seems to like me a lot. Maybe we’re fated to be friends,” said Serenity.  Fate… Clara looked like she was going to say something, but in the end, she simply said, “Yeah… maybe it’s fate.”  “I’ll see you tomorrow then, Clara,” said Serenity.  “Yeah, see you tomorrow.” Clara waited for Serenity to leave before she lacked the door and went to the small residence at the back of the restaurant. Her son was lying on the bed and had already fallen asleep. Mrs. Wells was gently patting the baby’s  back  “Is he asleep?” Clara asked softly. Even though she knew her son could not actually hear her, she still lowered her voice subconsciously.  “Yeah, he just fell asleep,” said Mrs. Wells, “Does Serenity really want to learn sign language?”  “I think so. She even thanked me when I gave her the sign language book just now,” said Clara.  “I’m surprised that she’s actually not bad. She gets along really well with Yanny too,” Mrs. Wells sighed. She was seeing Serenity in a new light after spending a few days with her.  “I don’t think she’s guilty of her crime,” Clara sat down and said, “She seems like a careful person. I heard her on the phone with her friend the other day. She was talking about overturning the case. She would only try to overturn the case if she believed she was wrongly accused.”  “Looks like she shares your fate,” Mrs. Wells‘ face suddenly turned gloomy. “If you weren’t wrongly accused, you wouldn’t have gone to jail and  “Mom, say no more,” Clara shook her head and said, “It doesn’t matter anymore. I’m happy to have you and Yanny. When we earn enough money for Yanny’s cochlear implant operation, our lives will become better.”  “Are you sure you don’t want to look for him? Mrs. Wells said after a moment of hesitation.  “Mom, I know you think that if I go to him, he might give Yanny and I a better life because Yanny is his son, but you have to remember that he personally sent me to prison when I was pregnant. Do you really think he cares if Yanny is his son? Clara calmly said.  She had been through so much pain and so much despair that all that was left was calmness.  Mrs. Wells wiped away the tears in her eyes. “It’s tiring being a single mother. I’m just worried that you might not hold up.”  “I will I have you and Yanny. No matter what happens, I’ll hold up. Don’t worry about me.” A smile crept onto Clara’s gentle face. “Go to bed, Mom. I’ll clean up and prepare the ingredients for tomorrow.  Mrs. Wells nodded and lay down beside Yanny.  When Clara turned around, the smile on her face disappeared. Her mother thought that if she went back to that man’s side, she might live a better life, but instead, she was afraid that he may still want to get revenge on her.  The reason she left that city with her mother and Yanny and came to Solaria after she got out of prison was to avoid that man.  Only by staying away from that man could her life truly begin anew.  She wished she would never see that man again for the rest of her life!  Serenity stared at the old man who was half lying on the bed in front of her. She did not expect Jackson’s grandfather, the old man who used to call the shots in Solaria, to send someone to intercept her on her way home and bring her here to the hospital 

Chapter 336  Serenity pursed her lips. She did not know how to answer that. She could only open the lunch box and bury her head in it.  Jackson’s eyes were fixated on Serenity. He tried to keep her by his side time and time again. It was almost a habit by now,  He did not want her to leave. He kept thinking of how he could make her stay willingly.  He did not know when he started eagerly anticipating having lunch with her every day. He was happy just getting to eat with her, even if the atmosphere could be pretty quiet sometimes.  Now that he thought about it, the days of him being “Jack” were probably the happiest days of his life. At least, back then, she would talk and laugh with him, treat him like an ordinary person, dry his hair intimately, and call him “Jack” over and over again  Jack… Jack….  She had no idea how much he wanted to hear her call him that again. Back then, whenever she called his name, it was as if she was calling out to her most important family member.  Serenity finished eating and looked up. Her eyes met with Jackson’s.  He was just looking at her. He had not even opened his lunch box yet. In other words, he had been looking at her the whole time she was eating?  Thinking of that possibility, Serenity suddenly blushed. She stood up in a hurry and said, “I… I’m gonna go back.”  She bent down to clean up her lunch box on the coffee table.  He moved his hand on top of her hand and looked up slightly, his eyes gazing at her fixedly. “Sis, can you call me “Jack” one more time?”  He almost sounded like he was begging.  Her body stiffened. She felt her throat going dry. “Why… so sudden…”  “Call me “Jack“. I want to hear you call me “Jack” right now,” he said.  She pursed her lips, not doing as he wished.  He moved his face a little closer to hers. “You wouldn’t call me that even once?”  She could feel his breath at the tip of her nose. When she saw his lips closing in on her lips, she quickly yelled, “Jack!”  His lips stopped inches away from hers. He smiled and said, “That sounds so nice.”  She felt her face becoming even hotter.  The moment he let go of her hand, she dashed out of the CEO’s office like she was running away.  In the office, Jackson stared at his hand that had just touched the back of Serenity’s hand. He could still feel the heat of her hand in his palm.  After a while, he slowly closed his hand as if he was trying to hold onto the heat firmly.  That evening, after cleaning up the restaurant, Serenity was about to leave when Clara handed Serenity a book on sign language. She told Serenity, “If you really want to learn sign language, you can take a look at this.”
