Chapter 381  “Before you asked me for the money, why didn’t you ask for my help in tracking down your mother’s grave?” asked Jackson.  Serenity was caught by surprise when she heard his question. At that moment, she realized how foolish she was. Even if she really handed fifty million to her father, was he really going to stop at that? Who’s to say he wouldn’t ask for more?  As Jackson suggested, she really should have just sought his help in finding out where her mother’s grave was moved.  The only explanation was that she was blinded by pante. She couldn’t believe she had managed to overlook such an obvious option.  “Can you bring me there now?” she asked anxiously. At this point, the only time she could be at ease is after personally visiting her mother’s grave.  “There’s no need to rush. You should rest first. If you’re feeling sleepy, you can take a nap first,” advised Jackson.  But how could she sleep now? Serenity could only stare at him with helpless eyes.  After roughly 15 minutes, his phone rang. He answered the call, and moments later, he replied, “Alright, I understand. I’ll be there shortly. Remember to make the arrangements I mentioned earlier.”  Jackson tucked his phone away after ending the call. He turned to Serenity and said, “Follow me.”  She immediately understood what he meant. Looks like he was bringing her to her mother’s new grave after all. She got on her feet and followed closely behind Jackson  When she got onboard his car, she realized that instead of heading to one of the various cemeteries in Solaria, they were heading for a large neighborhood in the city.  When the car rolled to a stop, Serenity looked around the area in surprise, then she turned to Jackson with a skeptical expression. After all, they were parked in an old suburb in the middle of the city.  “Let’s go,” said Jarkson as he led her by the hand into the area.  Serenity dazedly followed his lead Sonn, they arrived in front of one of the houses where Connor, his secretary was waiting There also appeared to be several men who lonked like bodyguards standing nearby.  The moment Connor caught sight of Jackson, he stepped forward and said, “Sir, it’s inside.”  Jackson brought Serenity into the house. It was apparent that Connor had it cleared out before they arrived. When she entered the place, she could tell that this place was likely rented out. However, no one was home at the moment.  Walking ahead of them, Connor opened one of the rooms. It was minimally furnished with an empty bedframe and a table. From what Serenity could see, aside from a box on the table, the room was virtually empty.  Hold on, that wasn’t a box. It was an um!  Serenity’s pupils constricted when she realized what it was. She marched forward and grasped the urn with her trembling hands. She noticed there were engravings on the side of the um, and sure enough, it was her mother’s name and the date when she passed.  This was… her mother’s urn!  Serenity felt her heart racing. She assumed that her father had bought a new grave plat for her mother when she heard about the move.  To her shock and dismay, he couldn’t even bother to buy her a new grave. Instead, he had rented a room just to store her urn!  Connor’s subsequent explanation continued ber quess.

Chapter 379  “I know,” replied Serenity through her sobbing. Now that things had come to this, she had no idea what other method she could use to acquire fifty million dollars.  Jackson smiled at her. “I’m not gonna pay you,” he said.  Serenity froze up immediately. All of a sudden, she felt like a deflated balloon as the last glimmer of hope faded from her eyes.  Of course, he wasn’t going to pay her. What made her think that he would fork out such an outrageous sum of money just because she promised to stay with him?  Serenity laughed at how pathetic she was. Did she really think that his interest in her was worth that much money? She silently lowered her head, and her grip on his hand gradually loosened.  Jackson gazed at her silently. After a while, he stood up and said, “Sis, I think you should get a proper rest first. I’ll get the servants to prepare some food for you. After that, you should go get some sleep.”  After telling her that, he got up and left the room. That left Serenity alone in the needlessly–spacious room.  She clasped her hands together tightly. As she thought… she’d be left alone again. Turns out, a combination of loneliness and helplessness really eats away at one’s soul. Even if she was willing to sell herself, it wasn’t as easy as she thought.  Jackson went straight to his study. There, he gave Connor a call “I need you to check her trail today. Find out what happened, and what made her lose control like this.”  “Understood,” replied Connor. It took only an hour for him to figure out the gist of what happened. He reported the findings of his investigation to Jackson over the phone.  “Her grave was moved?” asked Jackson with a frown.  “Yes. A week ago, Ms. Lewis‘ father had his late wife’s grave moved somewhere else. She found out about this today when she visited her mother’s grave. The caretaker said she grew incredibly emotional upon learning what happened and insisted on going up the hill. He said she left in a hurry after coming back down…”  Connor went on to describe Serenity’s visit to her father’s home, and the conversation he had with their neighbors. He even went as far as to report the records of her phone call with her father as well as Aria.  “From the call record, it seems that she called her family 38 times in total, but they were all unanswered.”  Jackson’s expression grew increasingly bitter as the report went on. A rough guess told him that they were demanding fifty million dollars from her in exchange for information about her mother’s whereabouts.  She was planning to sell herself just to obtain that information? That woman…  An indescribable wave of emotions surged in Jackson whenever he thought about her.  “Find out where her mother’s grave is,” he instructed.  “Understood.”  At that moment, one of his servants locked on his door. She came to report that Serenity wasn’t willing to eat, nor was she responding to their words.  “I understand,” replied Jackson. He then walked over to Serenity’s mom. When he entered the place, he immediately noticed the untouched plate of food sitting on a platter. She was still in the same curled–up position as when he first entered her room earlier.
