Chapter 12  Hugh waited at the Boyle’s home for an hour and a half.  As time went by, although t the air conditioning wasn’t turned on, the Boyle family felt as if they were in a cold cellar.  Odin was so pissed off that he called Mira a few times to urge her.  Whenever he called her, she would always say that she was on her way back, and yet there was nothing she could do, as there was a huge traffic jam in the morning.  Looking at Hugh’s face which was growing more and more sullen, Odin wished he could strangle Mira.  Finally, Mira went back.  Odin scolded her angrily, “What’s keeping you so long? Do you have any idea that Mr. Leopold went to you early in the morning despite anything else? And what did you do besides being slow? And how old are you? You are too old to run away from home! You shouldn’t let Mr. Leopold worry about you. Get over here and apologize to him.”  Hugh sat on the couch with his legs up in silence and looked at them coldly.  He had drunk four gla**es of water already. His waist was sore, and he was filled with anger.  happen 12  If it weren’t for his image and upbringing, he might have flared up before Odin.  Mira ignored Odin and looked at Hugh, looking aggrieved. “Darling, didn’t you tell me to get lost last night? Hearing you say so, I didn’t dare to do otherwise.”  Hugh was a bit embarra**ed. After all, Elle and Odin were  present.  Yet he calmed down after looking at Odin’s expression. It seemed that Odin wasn’t planning on standing up for Mira at all. Hugh said, “I told you to get out of the room, not the villa. Pack your things and come back with me now.”  “No.”  Mira shook her head decisively. “You told me to get lost, and I did. And now, am I supposed to get back, just because you say so? How am I different from a pushover then?”  Hugh was so furious that he actually laughed.  Odin spoke for Hugh, “Cut the crap! Who cares if you’re a pushover or not? Who is Mr. Leopold? You should be flattered now that he is here to pick you up. Go back with him now. Stop wasting time.”  Mira sat down on another couch without changing her expression. “I’m not going back. I feel great living outside, as I don’t have to walk on tiptoe while observing others‘ expressions. What if he tells me to get lost again? If I don’t follow his orders, things are gonna be ugly.”  “Mira, this is your last chance. Come back with me right now” Hugh squinted, and his patience ran out officially.  “Calm down, Mr. Leopold. Let me talk to her”  Odin was flustered and rudely dragged Mira into the guest room downstairs.  “If you continue to force me to go back, I might reveal the fact that I am not the daughter of the Boyle family,” Mira knew what he was going to say and threatened him impatiently.  “Stop hanging that over my head!  Odin pointed at Mira and warned, “Your mom lives with me every day, and she can’t live without me. I may not be able to control you, but I can deal with her at home.”  “I dare you!” A trace of viciousness flashed across Mira’s crystal–clear eyes.  “Then be good. I mean what I say” Odin’s eyes were full of evilness.  Mira raised her eyes and met his eyes, and finally, she gave in. She said, “Fine, I’ll go back.”  She opened the door and looked back at Odin as she went  Out  “I hope it’s just a threat. If you really hit my mom…” Mira’s pulled out a bleak smile. “I will definitely avenge her. She is the only one I care about, you know.”  Then she turned around and walked out.  Odin shivered.  The look in Mira’s eyes made him feel like he was being targeted by some kind of beast.  He regretted it. He should never have agreed to let Elle send Mira for some fighting lessons.  It turned out that Mira had been well–prepared.  Mira went to the living room.  She looked up and said to Hugh, “Let’s go. I’ll go back with you.”  Hugh raised his eyebrows and glanced at Odin behind her, and he didn’t know what they had said.  Yet he was glad that Mira agreed to go back with him so  soon.  He mocked, “You were hard back then, weren’t you?” 

Chapter 11  “No need. Stay here.”  Paige stopped Mira and said apologetically, “Mira, I believe you, and Allen won’t blame you. It’s just that Allen and I have just got married, which has made Abby insecure all the time. Abby even ran away from home a while ago. Sometimes Allen can’t bear to blame her, for fear that he might irritate her, and she will run away again.”  “I’m fine, Paige. I’m just worried about you. With Abby’s character, you may suffer in the future,” Mira said, feeling sorry for Paige.  Paige shook her head. “Life is never easy. You know I’ve always been very tolerant. I had no problem accepting my parents‘ divorce and you and Elle moving in. Besides, Allen told me about Abby before we got married. I willingly entered their lives, and I don’t regret it. Even if I fail in the future, at least I tried, and I won’t have regrets.”  Mira didn’t know what to say.  In the end, she stayed the night.  She slept with Paige.  Abby insisted on being accompanied by Allen instead of  Paige.  apter 11  40 Vouchers  It was the next morning.  Hugh went down to breakfast after a refreshing sleep.  He was relatively late, as Brenden, Taryn, Brady, and Sylvia were already here.  “Now that everyone is here, let’s dig in.”  Hugh felt that something was missing, but he could think of nothing for a while. He picked up the fork and was about  to eat.  Brenden banged the table, making a great sound. “Put it down! We have rules in our family. No one is allowed to eat before everyone is here.”  Hugh was stunned.  Being reminded, he suddenly knew why he had felt so comfortable this morning.  There was indeed someone missing. He almost forgot he was married.  “Where’s Mira?”  Taryn grumbled, “What time is it already? Is the whole family supposed to wait for her?”  Brady said, “Mom, she’s young, and it’s perfectly normal for her to sleep in.”  “She is married now. Since she is now one of us, she should know our rules.” Taryn looked at Sylvia. “She is on your  15  watch now. Discipline her so that we won’t embarra** us”  Sylvia said sarcastically, “Mom, I don’t dare discipline her at all, given her temper. Besides, she seems to have run away from home last night.”  “What?”  It was Brenden who asked. “What happened?”  Brenden glared at Hugh. “Did you say something?”  Hugh was a bit stunned.  He had asked Mira to sleep in a different room last night. He had not expected her to leave.  “Dad, I didn’t say anything,” Hugh strongly denied it.  Brenden sneered. He knew how mean Hugh could be better than anyone.  “Surely you said something unpleasant to her. And you! Why didn’t you tell me that Mira had left till now? We live in the suburbs. Has it ever occurred to you that the traffic here isn’t convenient, and it is dark at night? She is a young woman. What if something happens to her when she’s out there alone?”  Sylvia guiltily explained, “Dad, I found out this morning.”  Brenden ignored her and ordered Hugh, “Go get Mira back right now. Bear the consequences of your own mistakes.”  Hugh was livid. “Dad, I have to go to work later…”  40 Vouchers.  “Fine. Then about the woman’s treatment…” Brenden turned to look at Hugh.  Hugh immediately got up, gritted his teeth, and said, “Fine. I’ll go.””  “Eat before you leave,” Taryn said.  “I don’t think skipping one meal will kill him,” Brenden snorted.  Hugh was so pissed off that he was in no mood to eat, so he grabbed his car keys and left.  After asking Lucas for the Boyle’s home’s address, he drove directly there.  The Boyle family lived in a small townhouse with a small garden. 

Chapter 10  “Allen is indeed excellent, yet he has divorced once already”  Mira frowned and said, “And Paige, you have never dated. It’s not a good deal for you at all.”  “I don’t think so. I feel very happy to give all the things I’ve done for the first time in my life to the one I love. You’ve never loved someone, and you don’t get it.”  Paige smiled, “Besides, a lot of things he did were against his intention. His ex–wife leaked his academic materials in order to go abroad, and then she did not want to return home. Things between them were destined not to work out.”  Mira was stunned.  She had no idea that Allen’s ex–wife was such a woman. “So, his ex–wife didn’t come back?”  “That’s right.” Paige nodded.  Mira was relieved. She was worried that Allen’s ex–wife would show up out of the blue someday and make trouble.  Mira and Paige were walking side by side on the path with trees on both sides.  They were in the block filled with accommodation buildings  0.07%  for teachers built by the school. Although the buildings here were already more than ten years old, the environment here was quiet, and the walls were covered with many  climbing plants.  Allen’s place was at the back, a room on a relatively higher floor, equipped with elevators.  When they were almost there, Paige glanced at Mira’s face secretly and whispered, “There’s something I haven’t told you. Allen has a five–year–old girl who has lived with her grandmother and recently came to visit us on vacation. The girl hasn’t been in a very good mood these days. Don’t mind her.”  Mira, who was walking steadily, was shocked, and even her legs trembled. “Allen has a kid? You’re a stepmom now?”  “Keep your voice down.” Paige covered her ears. Then she added, “He has a girl. She’s cute.””  Mira didn’t want to say anything anymore.  She had never loved anyone, and she thought love made one nothing but crazy and irrational.  They got out of the elevator, and Paige opened the door.  Allen was sitting on the couch, reading a fairy tale book with a cute girl.  Allen, dressed in a loungewear, had handsome, gentle features.  Despite his gentlemanly side, Mira had seen his rigorous,  Chapter 10  knowledgeable side in cla**.  “Hi, Mira.”  Allen stood up and said kindly, “Have you eaten yet? Would you like me to fix you something?”  “No need, Dr. Duncan. I’ve had a lot tonight,” Mira said, well–behaved.  Allen patted his daughter on the head and said, “This is my daughter, Abby Duncan.”  After a pause, he reminded Abby, “Say hello. This is Paige’s younger sister.”  “They don’t look alike at all,” Abby curled her lip and said.  Mira frowned quietly.  Then Abby pushed away Allen’s hand. “I’m going back to my room to read.”  After that, she ran back to the bedroom.  “I’m sorry. She’s too young and not sensible,” Allen rubbed his brow and said helplessly.  “It’s fine.” Mira wouldn’t argue with a five–year–old girl.  “Paige, stay with Mira while I make her bed.”  Allen went back to the room to lay the sheets and bring out clean towels and toothbrushes.  Mira whispered to Paige, “Paige, Abby is cute, but I don’t  think she’s nice enough to accept you.”  Paige smiled, “It’s normal. Children this young will inevitably feel insecure when their parents get divorced. To her, I am a stranger, and it’s inevitable that she is wary of me. Wasn’t that what you did when you first came to the Boyle’s home? And what now? Aren’t we close or what?”  “I wasn’t like this back then. I was worried that you wouldn’t like me. Besides, not every child is as nice as I am.”  Mira wanted to say that Elle’s upbringing was one of the  reasons, too.  On the contrary, Mira’s father was an alcoholic and had never taken care of her. 

Chapter 9  The young man chuckled. “I guess you are waiting for the car behind.”  “Sorry.”  Utterly awkward, Mira unbuckled her seat belt and got out of the car at once.  As Mira got into the Honda, the young man tapped on the window and gently reminded her, “You forgot your suitcase.”  Then he easily opened the back seat door and put her suitcase inside.  After that, he waved his hand, smiled, and said to Mira, “I’ve got the license plate already. Don’t forget to text when you get there.”  Mira was stunned, and then she quickly understood.  He was worried that something might happen to her, as she took a car driven by a stranger at night, so he deliberately said these in front of the driver.  She quickly pretended to be familiar with him and nodded. “OK. Go back.”  Her heart was still pounding after he drove off.  She thought, “Gosh!  000%  17.02  40 Vouchers  “How can a man be so handsome, sweet, and considerate?  “How come Hugh can’t be like him?  “I guess people are greatly different after all.”  There was something she didn’t know.  Shortly after she left, the Maserati drove directly into the Leopold’s villa.  Hugh just got out of the shower. Hearing a knock at the door, he went to it impatiently. “What…”  He stopped when he saw his friend standing at the door.  “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?” Hugh punched Chad Alfred’s chest.  Chad chuckled with interest. “Who did you think I was? You sounded so impatient.”  Ignoring his question, Hugh turned around and said, “Come in.”  “Is it a good time?” Chad had a half–smile. “I heard that you got married. Is your wife inside?”  “Piss off.”  At the mention of Mira, Hugh was irritated. “I sent her to the other room.”  “That’s a bit too much, isn’t it? You’re newlyweds after all.”  140 Nouchers  Chad walked inside and looked around. He clicked his tongue and said, “It’s not at all like the place of a married man.”  “She and I are going to divorce sooner or later.”  Hugh took the towel and wiped his wet hair.  “To be honest, are you still thinking about Jacey?”  Chad found a sofa and sat down, said with his legs up, “One of them is an orchestra musician with national and  international fame, both talented and beautiful, and the other is the daughter of the unknown Boyle family. The comparison is so huge that no man can take it easily.”  At the mention of Jacey Tyler, Hugh glanced at Chad. “Has Jacey reached out to any of you these days?”  “No.” Chad shook his head. “I heard that your family has reached out to the Tyler family when choosing your bride, yet they said no, and no one has seen Jacey these days. Presumably, she didn’t want to become a widow. To think I used to figure that she loved you so much.”  Hugh frowned gloomily. “Forget it. It’s all over now. People are all selfish, so it makes sense that she refused.”  “Since when did you become so understanding?” Chad was surprised. “Don’t tell me that you want to divorce your wife and marry Jacey.”  “Get lost!”  A wet towel was thrown in Chad’s face.  Chapter?  ID Vouchers  “I was just joking. By the way, something funny happened near your villa when I was on my way here.” 

Chapter 8  “Fine. I eat as much as pigs do. Then what does that make you? These days at the hospital, you’ve been eating a lot more than me.  “What are you then? A pregnant sow?” Mira smiled.  “Mira, how dare you!”  Hugh had never been so humiliated. He squinted and pinched Mira’s arm.  He used so much force that she felt like her arm was about to break.  “Let go, Hugh!” She twisted her arm hard yet to no avail.  “I’m warning you. Watch your mouth from now on,” Hugh warned her viciously, his figure even more beefy right now. “Or there will be consequences.”  Mira never was willing to suffer any losses. She was short- tempered.  Now that she couldn’t struggle free, she simply pounced at him and bit his other arm.  Hugh groaned in pain, and he pushed Mira.  Though Mira was in pain, she refused to let go, and she  even bit him harder.  “Fine. I’ll let you off.”  Hugh loosened his grip.  Mira soon let go as well and then quickly retreated to a position two meters away from him, staring warily at him.  “You were a dog in your previous life?” Hugh pulled up his sleeve.  She bit him so hard that he was injured, and blood was oozing out.  “You attacked me first.”  Mira rubbed her arm, which hurt from being pinched by him. “What’s it say online? Either domestic violence doesn’t happen at all, or there will be countless domestic violence forever. The only way is to fight against it the first time it happens. Now that you don’t want to make it easy for me, I might as well return the favor.”  “Me? Domestic violence?” Hugh couldn’t believe his ears.  “You’ve bruised my arm. If that’s not domestic violence, what is?” Mira stared at him with a look of contempt.  Hugh thought, “Damned woman!”  He seriously suspected that if he were to be married to her for life, he would die out of anger for her at a young age.  “Get lost! This is my room! Get out of here!”  “Don’t go too much. We agreed to cooperate, and your  attitude now is a breach of contract,” Mira said.  “If you want to cooperate with me, show me the sincerity of cooperation and pay me respect.” Hugh kicked her pink suitcase. “Take your things and get out of my room.”  She frowned. “Where am I supposed to sleep then?”  “How should I know? My dad insists on having you here, so go find him.”  Hugh waved his hand and turned to get his clothes for a shower.  Mira stooped to pick up the kicked suitcase, turned around, and dragged it out the door without saying a word.  The Leopold’s villa was large, and there were some guest  rooms.  Yet instead of stopping, Mira directly left the villa.  The guard stopped her. “Mrs. Leopold, it’s so late. Where are you going with your suitcase?”  She said dejectedly, “My husband told me to get out. I had no choice but to get out.”  The guard felt so sorry for her, as she looked so innocent and pitiful. Only ruthless people like Hugh could bear to kick her out. He said, “Wait a second while I report it to Mr. Brenden,”  “No. Don’t do that. You work here, and I don’t want to make things difficult for you. Don’t offend Hugh because of me.”  Mira stopped him, sighed, and dragged her luggage into the night with a helpless look on her face.  The guard was so moved, thinking, “Mrs. Leopold is so pitiful, and yet she is still looking out for me, who is just an employee here.  “No way. I’ve got to tell Mr. Brenden.”  Yet he had just reached the lobby when he ran into Sylvia. She was just coaxed by Brady and went downstairs.  Knowing that Mira was kicked out by Hugh, Sylvia was thrilled. “Mr. Brenden is talking to Mr. Brady. Don’t disturb them.”  “But…”  Sylvia said coldly, “She is just a bumpkin who doesn’t get to be with Hugh at all. Don’t offend him because of this.” 

Chapter 7  Soon, Brady went back from work.  The dinner tonight was fancy. When Mira was living in the Boyle’s home, the food there was OK, yet it was nothing compared to that of the Leopold family.  Yet Mira didn’t dare to act recklessly. After watching Brenden and Taryn take the warm towels handed by the servants and wipe their hands, she imitated them and then began to have soup.  She liked to have soup before eating, and she found the soup particularly delicious.  Sylvia looked at the way Mira was eating soup and said with disdain, “Some eat soup alone without knowing to serve some for her husband, who just got out of the hospital. Well, that makes sense. After all, she may not even have seen such a rare soup before.”  Then she placed some soup in front of Brady.  She was determined to make Mira look like some unvirtuous, selfish wife who had never seen the world.  Sure enough, Taryn frowned in the next second.  Hugh looked at Mira with a hint of schadenfreude and said, “You’re right, Sylvia. She is not half as virtuous as you.”  140 Vouchers  Mira calmly swallowed the soup and said, “Sylvia, you must love Brady very much.”  “What do you think? We studied abroad together,” said Sylvia, elegantly wiping the corners of her mouth with a tissue.  Mira smiled, “You’re nice to Brady because you love him, whereas I don’t care much about Hugh because I have no feelings for him.””  The atmosphere at the table suddenly changed.  Hugh put down his fork, and his eyes became subtle.  Sylvia said unhappily, “Do you have any idea how outstanding and capable Hugh is? He’s young, and yet he is already in charge of a public company worth tens of billions of dollars. What’s more, he is so good–looking. None of the male stars are as handsome as him. He has been courted by countless rich girls. If you hadn’t been lucky, how could you have married him? Don’t be ignorant of your blessings.”  Taryn nodded approvingly. Although Mira was the reason why Hugh woke up, she cared about Hugh more.  “He is outstanding indeed.”  Mira nodded earnestly. “And I admit that he’s rich and handsome. However, am I supposed to love him, just because he has all that? Do I love his money or his looks? Sorry, I’m not that shallow.“‘  Sylvia choked. Then she said gloomily, ‘What do you mean? Are you mocking those girls who like Hugh? Are you calling  15.92%  them shallow? You are the noble one here. Happy?”  Taryn was unhappy, too.  She was pregnant with Hugh at an old age, and she doted  on him.  She found Mira’s words offensive and inappropriate.  “I didn’t mean that.”  In the face of Sylvia’s aggressiveness, Mira blinked innocently. “I didn’t know him before getting married to him. Am I supposed to love him deeply, just because we’re married? That’s so unrealistic.”  Though her words made sense, those from rich families were used to being buttered up, and no one liked the truth.  Seeing how gloomy Taryn was, Sylvia immediately tried to fan the flame. “You…”  Brenden interrupted her, “Enough, Sylvia. Mira didn’t say anything wrong. She is honest and straightforward, and I like her.”  It was the second time he had said he liked Mira tonight.  Mira could feel the cold in Hugh’s eyes.  She thought, “I guess that’s enough.  “I’ll eat before anything.”  Mira had two bowls of soup and a full plate in a short time.  3542%  40 Vouchers  Sylvia was done eating and couldn’t bear to watch Mira. “She eats that much? Those who don’t know better might think that she’s a refugee.”  Brady nudged her in helplessness, signaling her to stop talking.  Sylvia glared at Brady and ignored his motions.  Mira looked up in pretended bewilderment. “Did I eat too much? I’m sorry. I didn’t know that I wasn’t allowed to eat much at the Leopold’s home.”  Then she hurriedly put down her fork. 

hapter 6  When the doctor arrived, Mira was in the bathroom washing her clothes, looking disgusted.  Hugh was lying in the bed looking pale.  Thinking of the situation reported by the carer just now, the doctor asked helplessly, “Mr. Leopold, should we inform your parents?”  Hugh shook his head weakly at the image of Taryn and Brenden, who were in their 60s with grey hair, rushing over. The doctor sighed, “I don’t think you should continue to hurt each other. After all, both of you are adults.”  “Doctor, I’m 20 years old, and I’m still a student,” Mira said, poking her tearful face out of the bathroom.  The doctor even thought that she was still a teenage girl.  The doctor choked and then said, “Anyway, regardless of age, Mr. Leopold is hospitalized after all, so you shouldn’t make things risky for him. He is allergic to durian. Also, Mr. Leopold, focus on recovering for now.”  Men in their late 20s ought not to mess around.  Yet the doctor didn’t dare to say this out loud.  After the doctor left, Hugh stared at Mira in disbelief. “You’re only 20 years old?”  Chatt  40 Vouchers  “I’m 22,” Mira scratched the door frame of the bathroom and said honestly.  Hugh breathed a sigh of relief. It was also a young age, but at least it was better than 20. “Then why did you lie to the doctor?”  “Well… It’s easier to understand when younger people do childish things.” She blinked. “Unlike you, who is still brazen at such an old age.”  “Mira…” Hugh was about to flare up again.  “Mrs. Leopold…” The carer glanced at Mira nervously. “Maybe you shouldn’t anger him again.”  “Fine.”  Mira nodded. “Hugh, you’re a patient after all. Can we settle for a while? I know you don’t like me, and vice versa, but you just won’t believe me. I swear that I married you for nothing but the 33 million dollars.”  Hugh took a deep breath, calmed down, and stared at the woman in front of him.  Somehow, he was irritated.  He thought, “What does she mean? I’m not as attractive as 33 million dollars?  “Forget it. Things might get tricky if she falls for me.  “I’ve got more than pursuers than I need.”  Chapter 6  40 vouchers  Seeing that he was silent, Mira continued, “Logically speaking, you and I should work together. After all, we have the same goal, which is to divorce.”  Hugh agreed, so he nodded. He said, “What do you have in mind then?”  “I think… Since your dad is the one saying no to our divorce, I have to make him hate me,” Mira analyzed. “We’re in the hospital now, and there’s no way to see your dad, so I figure that I’ll try to make him hate me after you get better, we move back to the Leopold’s home, and I get to spend time with him every day.“”  “With your personality, he’ll hate you without you trying,” Hugh said.  Mira was speechless for a second.  She pretended that she didn’t hear him and said, “So, let’s call a truce for now.“”  “Are you begging me?” Hugh raised his eyebrows.  Mira was speechless again.  She thought, “How did you figure?”  Before she could say anything, Hugh nodded. “In that case,  OK, for the time being.”  Mira didn’t want to say a word.  She thought, “He’s so pretentious!”  Fapte  “Hugh, how old are you, if I may ask?”  Hugh narrowed his eyes. As if he knew what she was going to say, he parted his thin lips slightly and said, “None of your business.”  “I think you may be only 18,” Mira smiled.  “This is your attitude of wanting to reconcile with me?” Hugh looked at her with cold eyes.  Mira wanted to say, “I don’t see you wanting to reconcile with me at all.”  Yet on second thought, she said nothing. If she pissed him off so much that he fell sick again, the Leopold family would probably bury her together with him.  She decided to let go.
