Chapter 25  After spending some time with Mira, Hugh knew her much better now more or less./  He figured that his attitude toward her just then wasn’t exactly great. It was unlike Mira to let it pa** just like that.  Hugh had a bad feeling when he saw Mira walking toward the bed- with a basin of water. He hurried over with his long legs, grabbed her by the arm, and asked, with a cold face, “What are you doing, Mira?”  “Pouring water onto your bed, of course. Now that I can’t sleep, you don’t get to sleep either:”  Mira raised her head, and the bright eyes on her baby–fat face were very calm.  Hugh was taken aback and then warned sternly, “Don’t you dare!”  “Why should I be afraid?”  Mira looked at him coldly. “I’ve put up with you long enough, Hugh. You wanted a divorce and asked me to cooperate, and I did. What about you? Yesterday, you told me to get out, and today, you called me a thief in front of the police!  “You’re a neat freak, and you wouldn’t let me take a shower in the bathroom, so I used the communal bathroom. You wouldn’t let me sleep on the bed, and I said nothing. I just asked you to go get me a cushion and a blanket. You know exactly your attitude when facing  Hugh was a lot higher than her, and when he looked down, he could  Chapter 25  40 Vouchers  see her soft, rosy lips parting and closing clearly.  Her eloquence gave him a headache. “It’s just a blanket. Can’t you fetch it yourself?”  “I’m practically a stranger here. How should I know where it is?” Mira said angrily. “Hugh, I know my family is inferior to yours, and you despise me. But again, what we share is a partnership. You’re a businessman. Is that how you treat your business partners? Since you don’t respect me, I might as well return the favor.”  She said while walking to the bed.  “Don’t go over there!” Hugh grabbed her other arm.  Mira tried to break free, and they pushed each other. Hugh was a man, so he was stronger than her anyway. The water in the basin spilled out and was all over Mira’s breasts.  The room fell silent at once.  Hugh looked down and saw that as Mira had just gotten out of the shower, she was wearing nothing but a cotton light pink pajamas.  Now most of her upper body was wet, especially her breasts. He could even see the color of her underwear.  Hugh’s eyes darkened.  She was so skinny.  And how sexy she actually was surprised him.  “What are you looking at?” Noticing that Hugh was staring at her breasts, Mira blushed out of fury and shyness.  She didn’t know what she was thinking. Anyway, she got impulsive.  26.40%  Psstour hous  She grabbed the basin and poured the water on Hugh’s lower part.  Water spilled all over the wooden floor.  Hugh felt cold.  He looked at his wet lower part, and his handsome face was utterly gloomy. “Mira!”  He gritted his teeth, his eyes so vicious, as if he was about to kill her.  “What are you looking at? Courtesy demands reciprocity.”  Mira subconsciously emboldened herself. She stiffened her back, and her breasts shivered under her wet pajamas.  Hugh was so pissed off. He had the urge to strangle her, but he found  it hard to look at the woman who was with wet clothes.  He clenched his fists and walked angrily to the door.  He couldn’t stay here for another second.  As he approached the door, he thought about his wet pants. He went into the locker room and changed them, and then he slammed the door and left.  After he left, Mira was relieved.  She figured that since he was so furious, he probably wouldn’t come back. 

Chapter 24  As Taryn finished speaking, she saw Mira walk down followed by Hugh.  Brenden was speechless  He thought, “Fine. We shouldn’t judge Mira’s behavior with normal minds.”  “Where are Brady and Sylvia?” Hugh asked after sitting down.  Taryn glanced at Mira, who was wiping her hands with a warm towel, and said sarcastically, “Sylvia has gone back to her folk’s place. Brady called back to tell us about it.”  Hugh glanced at Mira. “You are something. Sylvia has lived with us for decades, and this is the first time she has ever gone home with anger.”  “You mean she has gone home with embarra**ment, right?” Mira looked up at Hugh blankly with her bright eyes. “I’m the one who is with anger. I didn’t go back, only because you took my luggage away.”  Hugh was speechless.  Taryn wanted to flare up again. “Mira, you…”  “Enough. Let’s eat,” Brenden ordered sternly.  He figured that if their conversation continued, let alone Taryn, he would have a heart attack.  ***  Chaiter 24  40 Vouchers  Mira was full.  She went upstairs to take a shower. She took her clothes out of the suitcase and carried them to the bathroom.  Hugh, who followed her inside, frowned. “I don’t like my bathroom being used by others. It’ll be dirty.”  Mira said nothing.  She thought, “You might as well say directly that you think I’m dirty.”  Her cheeks were bulging as she glared at the man behind her.  “I’m a clean freak,” Hugh added.  “OK.”  Mira nodded. She thought, “What a coincidence. I’m a clean freak as well. I don’t want to use his bathroom at all.  “Anyway, given his personality, even if we divorce in the future, I don’t think any woman will be able to stand him.”  Mira, unwilling to argue with him, took her clothes and went to the communal bathroom on the second floor to take a shower.  When she was back, Hugh had already taken a shower.  He was sitting at his desk in a navy blue pajamas. His skin was fair, and the neckline of his pajamas was casually loosened, revealing his delicate collarbone and sexy Adam’s apple.  Even though Mira hated him, she had to admit that he was the most dignified man she had ever met.  Mira walked over and silently put away her laptop and textbooks,  267  Chapter 24  40 Vouchers  which had been pushed aside.  Hugh glanced sideways at her. “Where’s the couch in my room?”  “Your dad had it move out. He didn’t want me to sleep on it at night,” she said.  Hugh was stunned by how thorough Brenden was.  Then he looked at the only large bed in the bedroom, and his handsome face darkened.  “In that case, sleep on the floor. I will take the bed.”  Mira did not argue with him, as she did not want to sleep in some man’s bed. “Then give me a cushion and a blanket. I can’t lie on the floor just like that.”  Hugh said indifferently, “That’s your business.”  His indifferent tone stung her again.  She thought, “I’m new here. How am I supposed to know where the cushions and the blankets are?  “I’m beat today, and I don’t want to fight with him.  “Yet my compromise is rewarded by nothing but his indifference instead of his compromise and cooperation.”  Mira glanced at him meaningfully and turned back to the bathroom.  Hugh looked at her back. Somehow, he had a bad feeling. 

Chapter 23  Hugh looked down at the woman in front of him. Her baby–fat face was bulging with anger, and her whole face was indescribably vivid.  Yet he somehow was a bit upset.  He thought, “How come she wants the divorce more than I do?  “Countless socialites have tried to get my attention.”  “The police have just left, and you want to divorce me in the blink of an eye? If word gets out, the Leopold family will be humiliated.” Hugh Moosened his tie, irritated.  Mira said, “I see. You are afraid that it will get out that you falsely accused me of stealing, and you will make a fool of yourselves.”  Hugh’s face went sullen, and a trace of embarra**ment flashed across his deep eyes. “Stay here for now. We’ll divorce after a period of time.”  “That won’t do.” Mira looked distressed. “I’m so poor and greedy of money. What if something is missing from your study, and you say that it is me?”  Hugh choked, and his face turned even colder. “Mira, are you done?– You can never let it pa**, can you?”  “What are you talking about?”  Mira sat down in the chair and frowned at him. “I genuinely don’t like being here. I don’t like any of your family. Everyone in your family hates and bullies the poor, fawns on the rich, and is overbearing.”  0.00%  40 Vouchers  Hugh’s anger, which he had managed to suppress, flared up. “And do you think we’re fans of you, Mira? You have no respect for your elders, and you are sharp–toned and arrogant.”  Mira nodded and casually spread her hands. “So be it. I don’t care how you think of me.‘  11  Hugh was speechless.  He now knew how stubborn and cheeky she was.  Quarreling with her would do him no good.  He was amazed by Xavier’s capabilities to find him such a fiancée.  Hugh pinched his brow and changed the subject, saying, “My dad asked me to take you out to live. What do you think?”  “No way!” Mira shook her head decisively. “Absence makes the heart grow fonder. You know the saying, right? I have to stay here to make your parents hate me. How else can I divorce you?”  Though Hugh wanted the same thing, seeing how eager Mira was to divorce him upset him a lot.  “It’s OK to make my parents hate you, but you have to be careful not to push too hard. My dad has heart disease, and my mom has high blood pressure. Don’t get out of the line and piss them off.”  Mira was stunned.  She thought, “Who knows? Both Brenden and Taryn are in poor health.  “I guess I have to be cautious. Once something goes wrong, perhaps the Boyle family will get implicated.  Chapter 23-  40 Vouchers  “Damn! Why is everything so hard?”  Seeing how distressed Mira was, Hugh raised his eyebrows.  He was glad that finally, something got to trouble her.  Soon after, the maid came up and asked them to dinner.  “OK. We’re coming.”  Mira stroked her belly and was hungry. She figured that arguing with them today consumed her a lot.  Hugh was surprised. “You just had a fight with my parents, and now you have no problem eating with them?”  What’s wrong with that? I’m not the one who wronged anyone. It’s you and your family who should be embarra**ed,” Mira said and went downstairs to eat.  Hugh was silent for a long time. No matter how much he disliked Mira, he had to admit that she was not like any of the women he knew.  As for the difference between Mira and those women, well, he was pretty sure that she was way cheekier than them.  ***  Brenden and Taryn were sitting in the dining room downstairs.  Taryn was in a bad mood.  She sighed, “You shouldn’t have asked me to dinner. If I see Mira, I’ll lose my appetite.”  “You’re thinking too much. She may not come down for dinner at all,” Brenden comforted her. 

Chapter 22  Sylvia thought, “Why should I?  “Mira is nothing.”  “Dad, don’t get mad. Sylvia will apologize to her.”  Seeing that, Brady pulled Sylvia and walked to Mira. “Mira, we’re sorry. What we did today was not right. We got you wrong. It will never happen again. As your elder, I shouldn’t have said those harsh words. I’m sorry.”  Then he pulled Sylvia hard and said sternly, “Apologize to Mira now!”  Sylvia gritted her teeth hard, feeling humiliated and unwilling.  Yet she knew that if she didn’t apologize to Mira today, neither Brenden nor Brady would forgive her.  “I’m sorry. OK?” Sylvia forced herself to say so, and then she pushed Brady away and ran out of the villa with red eyes.  Brady went after her helplessly.  Taryn had never seen Sylvia like that, and she felt distressed. “We’re family. Did you have to push Sylvia like this?”  Mira was a bit speechless for a second. She then said, “You’re right. We’re family. So, did you have to push me like that? Even the police were here.”  This time, it was Taryn who was rendered speechless.  “Enough! Just shut up, all of you.” Brenden was getting a headache.  Chapter 22  40 volts  “Hugh, don’t you have a villa out there? Take Mira to live there. She and Sylvia can’t live under the same roof.”  Hugh was stunned. If Mira moved out, there would be no way for her to irritate Brenden and Taryn.  “What? You want me to live with him alone?” Mira’s surprised voice rang out. “Mr. Leopold, why don’t you let us get a divorce? I can never fit in your family.”  Hugh was speechless.  For the first time, he vividly realized that Mira really wanted to divorce him. She wanted even more than he did.  “Mr. Leopold? I’m your father.”  Brenden had the urge to knock her on the head should he have his cane. “Hugh, get her suitcase upstairs. I forbid you to divorce.”  Hugh had no choice but to carry Mira’s suitcase upstairs.  “Don’t! I don’t want to be here anymore. I want to go.” Mira hurried after him.  Looking at them, Taryn clutched her chest. “If I saw her every day, I’d have a heart attack. You should have agreed to their divorce. Don’t you see the way Mira looks? She’s so uneducated.”  Now that Mira was out of sight, Brenden calmed down a lot. “Think about it. Wouldn’t you be angry if you were taken for a thief for no reason?”  “Brenden, are you confused, as you are too mad at her?” Taryn reached for his forehead. “You don’t have a fever.”  “Do you think I’m the same as you? I’m the head of the family,”  Chapter 22  40 Vouchers  Brenden said impatiently. “First of all, we were wrong indeed, because we took Sylvia’s word for it and made Mira out to be a thief. In view of subjective consciousness, we genuinely looked down on Mira. Second, after the truth came out, we refused to apologize to her because of our pride and her low status.”  “We should. We are Mira’s elders. Your parents are the only ones I’ve ever apologized to in my life. Why should I apologize to my daughter- in–law at my age?” Taryn said unhappily.  “I’m not happy about it either.”  Brenden snorted, “Yet given her courage, I guess she is the material for the daughter–in–law of the Leopold family after all. What’s more, she talked back to us with organized thoughts and without fear. None of the rich girls I’ve seen can be as good as her. Hugh is in charge of the Leopold Group, and his wife ought not to be weak.”  “Jacey is much better than her…” Taryn disliked Mira a lot.  “But Jacey didn’t get to marry him. They aren’t destined,” Brenden said indifferently.  ***  Mira was upstairs.  She treated Hugh with nothing but impatience.  “Why did you bring my luggage up? You should have sided  up  with  me so as to get your dad to grant us a divorce. You and your family hate my guts now, aren’t you?” 

Chapter 21  “You are new to the family, and you’re claiming that you know us?” Taryn was so furious that she actually laughed.  “I do,” Mira said straightforwardly. “I know you have twisted virtues, I know you look down on people who are poorer than you, and I know you unconditionally favor your own. I don’t dare to stay here anymore.  “You called me a thief for the missing necklace today. What if something goes missing again? I’ll be a thief again, right? After all, I was lucky that the police found proof today, but I might not get to be so lucky next time.”  She went out without hesitation, dragging her luggage.  When pa**ing by Hugh, she didn’t even glance at him.  Everyone in the Leopold family, including Hugh, was stunned.  The Leopold family was the richest in Svallion City and was buttered up by everyone.  Yet today, a girl in her 20s called them “people with twisted virtues“.  Brenden shivered with fury.  “Stop her, Hugh!” he ordered through gritted teeth.  Brenden thought, “Once she gets out and divorces Hugh, everyone in Svallion City will know that we wronged her.”  Hugh was stunned and grabbed Mira’s arm subconsciously.  “What now?”  0.00%  1542  Chapter 21  40 (Vouchers  Mira turned around and looked at Brenden warily. “Mr. Leopold, are you going to let your son hit me? Let me remind you. The police have just left. If I die here, they will definitely suspect you.”  “What are you talking about?”  The corners of Hugh’s mouth twitched. He thought, “Seriously?  “She actually thinks we will kill her? And she will die here?  “Who are we in her eyes? Villains?”  “Am I wrong? Then why won’t you let me go? You don’t like me anyway. Even if we managed to live together, we wouldn’t get along.”  Seeing that they had no intention of hurting her, Mira gradually let her guard down.  Hugh saw the changes in her eyes, and he felt completely speechless.  He thought, “Does she really think I’m gonna kill her?  “She is just a girl. Why does she think so badly of others?  “She is so bold that she dares to confront my parents.  “I’ve never seen such a woman before. I can’t help but feel a little curious about her.”  “Let her go, Dad!” Sylvia shouted. “There hasn’t been a day of peace in our family since she came.”  “Shut up!”  Brenden glared at her. “Aren’t you ashamed enough of what happened today? Having a junior laugh at our family’s bad manners doesn’t embarra** you at all?”  Chupter 21  4D Vouchers  “Dad, we have manners,” Sylvia said, still trying to argue.  “Apologize to her,” Brenden ordered.  A hint of surprise flashed across Mira’s eyes. She figured that Brenden would be too embarra**ed to do so, yet…  “Apologize to her? Me?” Sylvia couldn’t believe her ears. She said with great grievance, “Does she deserve it?”  “Are you really going to let her laugh at us for being less sensible than kids?” Brenden’s eyes were filled with coldness and warning. “Go apologize to her right now or kneel.”  Sylvia’s heart shuddered. After more than 20 years together, she knew that Brenden was angry indeed.  Yet she was unconvinced still. 

Chapter 20  “I saw it, too.”  The police kept discussing.  Their voices faded away.  Hugh didn’t catch up.  His face was utterly tight, his dark eyes filled with embarra**ment.  He thought, “Their words were harsh, but when I think back on what happened back then, what my family and I did was indeed humiliating.  “I thought Mira was greedy for money, so I a**umed she was the thief, even though there was no proof.  “What the heck is wrong with me? I’m not usually this stupid.  “How come I act as an entirely different person whenever  I’m with Mira?”  ***  Meanwhile, Mira was in the living room.  She had been quietly waiting since Hugh left.  After a long while, Sylvia said, “Dad, Mom, sorry for the fuss  40 Vouchers  today. I’ll go upstairs and put this necklace away. By the way, Mom, Jacey brought you a very nice watch today.”  “Really? Let me take a look,” Taryn wanted the whole thing to go away, so she said.  “It’s upstairs. I’ll take you to see it.”  Sylvia held Taryn’s arm while walking upstairs.  Mira looked at them coldly and said, “Even kids know that people who do something wrong and misunderstand others should apologize. Some are already in their 40s, and they aren’t as sensible as kids.”  Sylvia’s expression changed.  Taryn lowered her voice and said, “What happened today is shameful enough. Sylvia got you wrong, and she made a mistake, but you were aggressive and didn’t lose anything.”  “I was branded a thief by everyone. No matter how hard I tried to argue, you didn’t believe me. Even though the police found evidence, Sylvia continued to smear me. And you are saying that I didn’t lose anything?”  Mira bit her lip. “If you don’t want to apologize, just say so.”  Taryn was talked back to by Mira, the younger generation, so she was disgusted by Mira at once.  Brady stepped up and said, “Mira, I apologize to you on Sylvia’s behalf. She made a mistake today. Yet you shouldn’t take it out on my mom, as she is your elder anyway.”  な  40 Vouchers  “Fine. Now that you say so, what am I supposed to do  anyway?”  Mira turned around and went upstairs.  Sylvia looked at her back with a flicker of disdain.  Sylvia thought, “So what if I wronged her? She is new to the family. She is no match for me at all.  “Brenden and Taryn dote on me, and even Hugh respects me.”  Five minutes later, Mira came down the stairs with a suitcase.  Hugh happened to be back. Seeing that, he subconsciously blurted out with a sullen face, “What do you want now? Has running away from home become a habit for you?”  Brenden said with a straight face, “Mira, I know what happened today wasn’t fair to you, but it only happened. because we didn’t know you well enough. Stop making a scene.”  Mira smiled and looked around. She scanned the people in the room one by one and then said, “You may not know me well, but I know you. I know everyone in the Leopold family. I think that’s enough for me.” 

Chapter 19  “Everyone, stop it.”  Suddenly, a policewoman said in a low voice, “Is this the necklace you’ve been talking about?”  The people present looked over.  The policewoman was holding a glittering blue diamond necklace in her white–gloved hand.  “Yes! This is the one!” Sylvia was thrilled, and she rushed to take the necklace. “Where did you find it? Was it in this woman’s suitcase?”  Mira almost couldn’t suppress the urge to roll her eyes.  The policewoman pointed under the couch in the living room. “It was under that sofa.”  Sylvia glared at Mira. “How scheming you are! You were afraid we’d go through your suitcase and your room, so you stuffed the necklace under the couch, and you thought you’d get it out without anyone knowing. Sure enough, the most dangerous place is the safest.”  “Are you crazy?”  Mira was about to lose it, and she clenched her fists so tightly that even veins could be seen.  “Mira, watch your mouth when talking to my wife.  111  Manners!” Brady scolded angrily.  “Has she watched her mouth when talking to me?” Mira glared at him. “She claimed that I put the necklace in my Suitcase, and now she says that I put it under the couch, Get the necklace for fingerprints! I’ll do whatever you want if my fingerprints are on it!”  “You are so good at it. Who knows? Perhaps you wrapped the necklace in something and then hid it,” Sylvia said, curling her lip.  Seeing the family so aggressive, the policewoman who found the necklace couldn’t stand it anymore. “That’s your cat, right?”  “Yes. She’s mine.” Sylvia nodded.  The policewoman said, “According to my observation, the cat likes to jump up and down on the couch and the coffee table. I think the cat was playing on the coffee table and accidentally knocked over the necklace box, and then it rolled under the couch. When I found the box, the lid was open, and the necklace was outside. If someone deliberately tried to hide the box, it would have been closed.”  The living room fell silent.  Everyone looked at the cat that jumped easily onto the table and said nothing.  Mira glanced at the cat and said indifferently, “You’ve got your proof now.”  Cheer  “Who knows if you did it on purpose?” Sylvia muttered, and then Brady pulled her.  “Enough! Stop talking.”  Brenden glared at Sylvia. At such an age, he was utterly humiliated because of her nonsense.  Brenden walked forward on his cane and said, “Officers, I’m sorry to drag you here today because of some  misunderstanding. You must be tired. Let’s have a cup of tea in the tea room.”  The leading policeman said, “Thanks, but no need. It’s our job. Now that everything is clear, we shall go.”  Brenden was just being polite. He wanted them gone as soon as possible.  Less than a minute after the police left, Hugh saw a pen left on the table, presumably by the police.  “Dad, I’ll send it to them.”  He walked out with the pen.  When he approached them, he heard them whispering.  “See? Women should never marry into rich families. They may look glorious, yet in fact…”  “So true. The family is simply unreasonable, especially Mr. Brady’s wife. When I saw her on TV earlier, I thought she was pretty gorgeous. Who knows? She is just a shrew.”  40 Vouchert  “What about Mr. Hugh? He is such a joke. He thinks his wife loves money, so he thinks she stole something. If that’s the case, then the world is probably full of thieves.”  “If you ask me, I think he loves money more than his wife does. He is such a miser. Did you notice? Mr. Brady’s wife was dressed in luxury, with priceless diamonds on her ears. On the contrary, Mr. Hugh’s wife was wearing cheaper clothes than mine with no jewelry at all.” 

Chapter 18  Mira thought, “What the heck is Hugh talking about?  “I used to think that he was good–looking and decent.
