Chapter 56  Rosie was taken aback. She couldn’t believe Jasper didn’t see through the cunning girl’s pathetic act. He was indeed a fool.  At this moment, Jasper picked up a black umbrella. His face was calm as he pushed the door open.  “Hey! Mr. Jasper!” Rosie anxiously called out.  Jasper continued to walk out with the umbrella. Rosie was so frustrated she stomped her foot.  Outside the door, Liana sat helplessly in the rain, unable to hold on any longer. But as soon as she saw Jasper walking toward her, she became overjoyed. She turned on her charm and pitifully wept as she collapsed forward.  Jasper’s eyebrows furrowed. He walked up to her. He held the umbrella over her while using the other hand to forcefully lift her from the ground. His demeanor was firm and adamant, so she could not break free even if she wanted to.  “Jasper …” Liana murmured, then threw herself into his embrace.  Just moments ago, she seemed frail. But now, she miraculously revived in his presence. She wrapped her arms tightly around his sturdy waist and leaned against his chest.  A sense of irritability surged in Jasper’s heart, and he spoke softly, “You have a weak body. Staying under the rain will make you sick.”  “You wouldn’t have met me if I didn’t do this. I just wanted to see you. Why won’t you meet me?” Liana raised her pale and miserable face, her gaze filled with panic and confusion. “Jasper … do you no longer love me? Lately, you’ve been cold toward me. Is it because of the incident with the suit? I know I was wrong. I’ll apologize to Alice and beg for her forgiveness. Is that enough?”  “There’s no need. I’m no longer angry,” Jasper said indifferently. “You’ve seen me now, so you can rest assured. Go home and stay with  your family. I will find you once things settle down.”  “Jasper, please… save my brother, okay?” Liana realized he was becoming impatient, and her face flushed with anxiety. She put down her pride as a wealthy young lady and clung tightly to his muscular body.  “My brother is about to be sentenced! No lawyer in Solana City dared to defend him because of the Taylor family’s power and influence. They have gone too far and are pushing the Gardner family to the edge! Jasper, you must help us! My family is almost bankrupt. Everything will fall apart once my brother goes to prison! Please, I beg you.”  Jasper’s gaze remained cold and firm, his tall figure unwavering.  Some might call him heartless, but his love for Liana was persistent. He had kept his promise as a young man until he turned thirty, even if it meant hurting another woman who deeply loved him, and even if it meant bearing the title of an unfilial grandson, he was determined to marry her.  Some might call him compassionate, but he was impartial and resolute when it came to official matters. The Gardner family committed a crime, and he showed no mercy. He was as cold and decisive as a judge in the court of law.  At this moment, Jasper recalled his ruthless words to Alyssa when negotiating on behalf of the Gardner family and how he used the issue with the Gardner family against Alice. He was instantly filled with regret, and his tone turned frigid.  “The Taylor family is innocent, and your brother is the one who brought this upon himself. I suggest he confess and seek a lighter sentence. That’s the right thing to do. As for the Gardner family, your family should reflect on their mistakes. One rotten apple spoils the bunch. Even if I were to give you another billion, there’s no hope if you don’t address the issues within your own family.”  Liana’s lips trembled, and she was dumbfounded. She had thought that by crying and acting miserable, Jasper would soften and comply with her as he had done before.  But she was wrong this time. Jasper used to be lenient with her because she hadn’t crossed a line. But once she overstepped her  boundaries, he wouldn’t show mercy even to the woman he loved. 

Chapter 55  Jasper recalled the disappointment and resentment in Alice’s eyes as if they were sworn enemies. He suddenly felt empty inside, like he had lost someone important.  Rosie followed Jasper into the study looking upset, not long after.  “Mr. Jasper, Ms. Gardner is here. You should go greet her.”  “I’m not going.”  His answer took Rosie aback. Had he finally grown a backbone? It was so inspiring to see a fool turn over a new leaf.  “I know why she’s here.” Jasper slumped down on the chair. He stared ahead blankly and continued, “Tell her that she shouldn’t even bother if it’s about Dylan. The Gardner family must be in a mess right now. She should go back and spend more time with her parents. I’ll meet her in a few days after things have settled down.”  “What if she insists on staying?” Rosie asked.  “Then, let her be.” Jasper sighed deeply and rubbed his forehead. He kept thinking of the phrase “Good for nothing.” He was infuriated by Alice’s description of him as such. She had never relied on him. How would she know if he was useless?  Rosie smiled gleefully and nodded, giving him a thumbs up as she left the study.  Jasper furrowed his eyebrows. It seemed that Mrs. Rosie genuinely disliked Liana. She was so happy to send her away.  Meanwhile, Rosie stood outside the villa, looked at Liana coldly, and said, “Mr. Jasper said he would not get involved in your family’s affairs. You can go home.”  “Let me see him!” As she spoke, she was about to barge in. But she was no match for Rosie, who was quite well–built. Rosie merely stepped forward to stop her, and Liana stumbled to the floor.  “How dare you push me? I’m Jasper’s fiancée, the future Mrs. Beckett! How can you be so rude to me? I’ll tell Jasper you bullied me and get him to fire you!” Liana sat on the ground in a rage and pointed at Rosie.  “Huh? We’ll see about that in the future. I’ll never acknowledge you even if Mr. Jasper married you. Even if they’re separated now, I’ll only recognize Ms. Alice as the rightful lady of this house. Anyone besides her can step aside.”  “You!” Liana’s face turned red with anger.  “If you want to complain about me to Mr. Jasper, you can go ahead. I’ll even thank you if you can make him fire me. I’ve wanted to retire  and couldn’t find a good reason to.”  Rosie wished Jasper could’ve seen the vicious look on Liana’s face. It was not the sweet and harmless Liana he knew at all.  “Jasper! You have to help me! You can’t just turn a blind eye!” Liana ignored Rosie. She’d rather sit on the ground and wail.  This was like something out of movie screens, the ex–girlfriend kneeling outside the door, pleading for another chance. After some time without any response, Liana began crying desperately.  “Aunt Sophia! You have to help me! Uncle Javier!”  “Stop yelling! They are having dinner with Mr. Beckett Senior. They won’t be back in a while.”  “Then I’ll wait here until Jasper sees me!”  Rosie looked at the cloudy sky and said, “It will rain soon. I have to bring in the clothes. You can keep screaming if you want.”  Then, she returned to the house. She instructed the staff not to open the door for Liana under any circumstances.  Liana continued to yell for some time until her voice turned hoarse. Yet, there was no sign of Jasper coming. Her face turned pale as she began to panic and feel confused. She realized Jasper had changed and could no longer be easily manipulated.  In the past, he would drop everything to see her no matter how busy he was. He would spare no effort to comfort her with expensive cars and jewelry every time she cried. He would spend a fortune just to make her smile. But why was it so difficult for her to see him now? 

Chapter 54  Alyssa wasn’t in the mood to go to the hotel. She decided to head home. Sean remained silent for a long time. Finally, he asked, “Ms. Alyssa, does Jasper still not know that you are the heiress of the Taylor family?”  “Yeah,” Alyssa replied softly, looking melancholic.  Sean understood. No wonder she asked for a stand–in when Jasper visited her last time.  “Sean, I didn’t mean to keep it from you …”  “I understand.” Sean interrupted.  Alyssa raised her brows in astonishment.  “Who wants to dredge up heartache? Naturally, I prefer to keep it locked away, never to be touched again. Chapter 52  Alyssa’s eyes widened in shock. Her heart skipped a beat.  Her gaze bore deeply into Jasper’s.  Her captivating eyes seemed to blaze with fiery flames.  Her expression was almost overwhelming.  Even a man as commanding as Jasper couldn’t help but flicker his eyes as if trying to avoid her intense gaze.  After a moment, Alyssa smiled. There was a distant look in her eyes. It was as if she were emotionally detached or lost in thought, creating a sense of unfamiliarity between them.  “So, Mr. Beckett, you rushed here only to vent your anger on your dear wife? It seems like you’ve been holding it in for so long that you might explode on the spot if you don’t release it now.”  Jasper had pushed himself to the limit. Alyssa had poured her heart into her relationship with Jasper for the past three years. She didn’t expect him to cherish any memory of her goodness. His continuous use of derogatory language to degrade her was crossing the line! 1  Moreover, Alyssa had moved on and no longer belonged to Jasper. It seemed Jasper never allowed her to be his. She stood outside his heart like a stray cat waiting to be taken in, only to be met with even harsher rejection.  Was Alyssa supposed to endure Jasper’s heartless trampling? There was no justification for such treatment!  “Jasper, it’s unfortunate that despite your impressive connections and influence, you might not be able to rescue Gardner Group from this  calamity. Dylan’s wrongdoings against KS Group, such as violation of interests, bribery, evidence tampering, and framing others, are well- documented. It appears there’s no way you can save him now.”  Alyssa’s expression sharpened suddenly. Her red lips curved into a mesmerizing smile, captivating the hearts of those who beheld it. “You  can’t stand it. And since you can’t change the situation, all you can do is pick on me, mock me, and humiliate me to vent your anger.”  Alice was determined to do things her way, fighting for what she wanted without looking back. She didn’t care about others‘ opinions, not  even Jasper’s. Alice was determined to bring down Gardner Group and make them pay for their actions. She was willing to go to any  lengths to achieve her goals.  Jasper’s muscular arms tightened beneath his suit. The veins on his hand bulged. Now that Alice had a powerful ally, she exuded  confidence and sharp wit.  “Shameless and unscrupulous!” Jasper felt his breath caught in his throat while saying the words.  “Shameless and unscrupulous? Well, thanks for the half–hearted compliment.” Alyssa mustered a forced smile, but it was so cutting that it felt like a prick to his eyes. “But even if I were shameless and unscrupulous, what did it matter to you? Who are you to judge and meddle in my business?”  As the conversation seemed futile, Alyssa decided to turn and walk away. To her surprise, Jasper was unwilling to let go. He gripped her arm with an alarming
