Chapter 712
Caroline took a look at her phone and saw that Marietta was calling her.
She quickly answered the call. “Hi, Aunt Mary.”
“Hey, Carrie. I’m calling to apologize,” Marietta said on the phone. She had lost her usual high
spirits and sounded very tired.
“What happened that day was Yvonne’s fault. She shouldn’t have treated you like that.”
Caroline replied, “Aunt Mary, you don’t have to apologize.”
“No, Carrie. I won’t feel at ease if I don’t apologize.”
Marietta forced a smile. “Caroline, you’re a good person. I’m sorry for what you went through that
day.”
Caroline didn’t say anything else, and Marietta remained silent as well.
Caroline could feel that they could no longer return to the time when they had been as close as
mother and daughter. She thought that it was a pity.
However, she never regretted calling Marietta her mother because she finally understood what
maternal love felt like after spending time with her.
“I’m going to bring Yvonne home the day after tomorrow.”
Marietta took a breath and continued, “But we’ll head over to Macldo first. Carrie, do you have
anything you want? I’ll buy it for you.”
“No, it’s okay,” Caroline declined.
“Getting your wish fulfilled is the best gift for me.”
Her words struck a chord in Marietta’s heart. Caroline was really too sweet. But people who were
kind would always suffer.
Marietta thought about something seriously and then said, “Carrie, I’m going to a casting call
tomorrow. There’s a screenwriter who I’m close with, and her literary skills are as good as mine. If
you ever find any problems, you can always meet her.”
“Okay.” Caroline slowly sat on the bed. She hugged her knees sadly, feeling as if a knife had cut

After a while, Caroline pulled herself together and said, “Aunt Mary, I’m going to hang up now tat me know when you’re free tomorrow morning, and we’ll go see that screenwriter together”
The next day might be Caroline’s last time seeing Marietta
“Okay.”
Caroline feared she would start crying, so she quickly hung up the phone
Meanwhile, after Marietta hung up the phone, she felt her heart throb in pain.
It felt as if someone was squeezing the breath out of her, making it impossible for her to breathe

Easton. She would feel more at ease if someone looked after Caroline on her behalf
“Mom!” The door was pushed open, and Yvonne walked in excitedly.
“The yacht you gave me is so cool! Many friends called me just now, saying they wanted to see it.
Is that okay?”
“Of course. If you like it, I can always buy another one for you.
“You’re the best, Mom!” Yvonne kissed Marietta on the cheek.
Suddenly, she thought of something and looked at Marietta sternly. “Mom, you didn’t contact
Caroline in secret while I was away, did you?”
