Chapter 6 That Kiss Wasn’t Intentional

Kaiden cast a glance at Demi, his face betraying a hint of disdain, and then turned to Ellie.

Ellie caught a questioning look from him, as if

he wondered, “Is it really okay for the Gordons to allow someone with mental challenges to be out alone?”

She blinked, dismissing the connection between her and the foolish Demi.

Unexpectedly, when comparing Demi and Ellie, Kaiden found Ellie to be quite acceptable.

“Dear nephew, did you catch that?” Ellie’s eyebrows rose teasingly, her smile mischievous. “You should take better care of your woman.”

For the first time, Kaiden noticed Ellie’s daring nature.

Yet, her boldness wasn’t off-putting.

The more he observed, the more he was drawn to her.

Erick, fuming, muttered curses under his breath, glaring at Ellie and Kaiden as they departed.

“Erick, that man…”

Demi suddenly recalled. The man Ellie married was supposed to be disabled!

Was that man they just saw Ellie’s husband?

But he was the most handsome and polished man she had encountered in two decades! How could he be the feared and aggressive Mr. Thorpe?

“He’s a reject our family discarded! I’ll bring him down!” Erick clenched his teeth.

He was determined to make Kaiden bow to him one day, ensuring Ellie would rue her decision.

Demi came back to the present moment.

Sure, Kaiden was attractive, but he couldn’t hold a candle to Erick, the Thorpe family’s golden boy. Perhaps Erick would one day inherit the entire family legacy!

“Erick,” Demi whispered, wrapping her arms around his neck and gazing at him lovingly. “Have you truly moved on from Ellie? You two have been part of the same social circle since childhood, and I feel like an outsider. I… I

worry I can’t measure up to her. My love for you is deep; I need reassurance.”

Demi’s delicate features radiated innocence, eliciting empathy and a desire to protect her.

Erick, charmed by her vulnerability, pinched her chin and planted a kiss on her lips.

“Honey, why would you say that? I’ve never had any interest in Ellie. She’s simply not your match.”

Though Demi might not have Ellie’s beauty, Ellie’s dubious background made her an incompatible choice as his girlfriend.

Erick’s words pleased Demi, and she responded with a fervent kiss.

In her mind, she was far superior to Ellie.

She held a firm conviction that it was Ellie who had pestered Erick.

Meanwhile, Bruce wheeled Kaiden along.

Ellie walked dutifully by their side.

“Mr. Thorpe, I didn’t come here to see Erick today. I…”

“Ellie, are you using me for your own gain?” Kaiden cut her off.

Ellie was taken aback.

She realized he must have seen through her intentions. After all, he was quite intelligent.

With the situation already played out, whether she came for Erick seemed irrelevant.

Kaiden brushed his lips with his thumb.

Ellie, recalling her actions, averted her gaze and mumbled, “That kiss wasn’t intentional…”

After all, they were legally married. Their closeness was legitimate.

Kaiden gave her a cold glare, and scoffed.

“What’s with that scoff?” Ellie remarked, slightly annoyed. “I was trying to save your face in front of Erick. He was mocking you, right? I was helping you.”

Did he think she wanted to kiss him?

Initially, Kaiden hadn’t thought much of the kiss.

It was barely even a kiss, more like, a brush on the lips.

But as Ellie kept mentioning it, and he recalled the moment, he felt a tingling sensation on his lips and remembered the closeness and softness of her approach, causing an unexpected tightness in his throat.

This unusual reaction left Kaiden feeling annoyed.

“So you’re helping a bastard like me?” His tone was edged with frost.

He overheard her calling him offensive names the other day!

Ellie, caught off guard, faltered briefly but quickly regained her poise.

“What do you mean?” Ellie feigned ignorance, swiftly steering the conversation elsewhere. “But I do thank you for your support against Erick.”

“Don’t read too much into it.”

His action wasn’t about defending her; he simply couldn’t tolerate Erick belittling the woman known as his wife.

His feelings were unrelated to Ellie personally.

Displeased, Ellie pursed her lips.

She found his lack of gratitude frustrating, and regretted thanking him.

The car arrived, and Bruce opened the door. Observing Kaiden’s silence, Bruce sensed his intention.

“Mrs. Thorpe, please, get in the car.” He invited Ellie.

Ellie was taken aback by Kaiden’s gesture of allowing her to enter. She hesitated briefly.

Kaiden, seated in the back, glanced over coldly and remarked sarcastically, “Waiting for your ex-fiancé?”

Did he really think she was waiting for Erick, that despicable man?

Tired of explaining, Ellie huffed in annoyance, her actions clearly indicating she wasn’t waiting for Erick.

Kaiden watched as she settled across from him. Her sullen expression made her fair, delicate face appear… almost tempting to touch.

Acting on impulse, Kaiden reached out and pinched her cheek.

“Ouch!”

Ellie felt a sharp pinch. She scowled, protesting his action.

Her voice, though cool, carried a subtle warmth, becoming slightly coquettish when she was emotional.

Kaiden’s eyes lingered on her reddened lips as he gently held her chin.

Startled, Ellie’s eyes widened, her breath hitching.

Suddenly, Kaiden’s lips met hers, his warm breath palpable against her skin.

He bit her gently.

God… Was Kaiden out of his mind?

Before Ellie could process what happened, Kaiden drew back.

Then he coldly ordered the driver through the partition of the car, “Stop here.”

His voice was icy.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom came to a halt by the roadside.

Kaiden finally looked at Ellie directly. “Get out,” he said, his impatience evident.

Ellie, bewildered, responded, “What?”
