Chapter 69 Removing Data From the Internet
Larry was all smiles and getting ready to leave when he heard Liam’s voice behind him.
“After canceling the project, let’s redirect the marketing department and invest in material construction projects instead,” Liam said.
Watching Larry briskly walking away, Liam sat down in his chair. Deep in thought, Liam took a seat and chuckled softly, pondering to himself, “What I’m doing seems more driven by personal interest than corporate interest. Regardless of the perspective, he hoped that the Glacier Lake development would involve collaborating with Gwyneth.
A few days later, at the hospital entrance, Elizabeth furrowed her brow as she observed the bandaged wrap around her arm. Despite her relatively short hospital stay this time. In his office, Liam was engrossed in reviewing the submitted documents for the Glacier Lake construction materials. Suddenly, a knock on the door interrupted his concentration. Granting permission to enter, he saw Elizabeth walking in, wearing a gentle smile.
“Oh, you’ve been discharged?” Liam asked. He noticed that Elizabeth had her sleeves rolled up, exposing the bandage to the air, which surprised him a bit.
“Yeah, I just finished the discharge procedures. The doctor assured me that my recovery is progressing well, so I wanted to return as soon as possible,” Elizabeth replied.
Liam’s brows slightly furrowed as he responded, “You should go home and get some rest first. Taking care of your health is crucial” Having shared many years together, he couldn’t bring himself to treat her as a stranger.
“I’m alright, really. I’ve already postponed work for several days, and I feel guilty about it,” Elizabeth said, gesturing to pour tea for Liam. She didn’t dare to go home and rest at the moment. In fact, she wished she could move into the Luther residence and be by Liam’s side every day.
However, seeing Elizabeth’s actions, Liam quickly stepped forward and took the teacup from her hands. “Your injury hasn’t fully healed yet. You shouldn’t be doing any work. If you don’t want to go home, at least go back to your own office for now,” he insisted.
Liam’s concern for Elizabeth’s well–being was sincere. However, as is often the case, the intentions of the speaker can be interpreted differently by the listener. Elizabeth couldn’t shake off the uneasy feeling that Liam was trying to distance himself from her, avoiding any further involvement. Restlessness consumed her, yet she understood that clinging onto him wouldn’t bring her any benefits.
After exchanging a few more words with Liam softly, Elizabeth reluctantly left the CEO’s office. Once she returned to her own office, her previously cheerful demeanor vanished. Reflecting on Liam’s expression and words, she couldn’t help but feel that the closeness they once shared seemed to have faded away.
Elizabeth’s lips trembled as she murmured to herself, “Has he discovered something again…?” Her complexion turned pallid, and a surge of panic coursed through her veins. The mere thought of Liam unearthing the truth about that fire and exposing her web of lies sent shivers down her spine. It wasn’t just her chances with him that hung in the balance, but her very survival seemed at stake.
With these thoughts racing through her mind, Elizabeth immediately turned on her computer and logged into an unfamiliar website. It was a site she had bookmarked a long time ago, just in case. While it was true that anything could be investigated on the Internet, there were specialists adept at erasing digital footprints.
Elizabeth’s heart raced with anticipation as her computer screen flooded with job–seeking information from hackers. Her intent was clear- to enlist their expertise in removing data from the Internet. Every trace of data related to that incident was to remain, with one exception- the heroic act of Gwyneth saving Liam. Diligently, she completed the request form, meticulously ensuring that every detail was accurate, while generously inflating the reward section with an irresistible abundance of zeros.
After carefully reviewing everything to ensure there were no errors, Elizabeth pressed the “publish” command. Unexpectedly, within half a minute, someone had taken up the task. Intrigued, she immediately initiated a private chat with the hacker who had accepted the job on the website. “Give me your phone number so I can contact you.”
“Apologies, but phone communication isn’t part of our standard protocol,” ShadowCipher swiftly typed on the keyboard, sending the
message to Elizabeth.
The fact that it was ShadowCipher who had taken up the job among the multitude of hackers online was a curious coincidence. In truth,
he had been evading this type of work lately, preferring to focus on other pursuits. However, when he glimpsed that the task was connected to an incident in Vestal, where his mentor resided, he clicked the mouse to accept the job.
