Chapter 40 The Hacker World
“What’s going on?”
Gwyneth wasn’t surprised to see signs of trouble at Glen Corporation. However, she was a bit laken aback by how quickly the other party had taken action. She couldn’t help but think about how impatient they were. Nevertheless, when she looked at it from a broader perspective, she realized that it actually worked in her favor.
Wesley unfolded the documents and placed them on the table. His expression grew serious as he spoke, “I’ve discovered that someone within Glen Corporation has leaked confidential information and is selling it on the black market.”
Gwyneth furrowed her brow upon hearing Wesley’s words. She carefully reviewed the documents once more, confirming that the information disclosed in the files was only accessible to shareholders. Instinctively, she tapped her fingers on the table, and after a few seconds, she turned on her computer screen.
Wesley stood there, completely awestruck. He didn’t dare to take a breath as he watched Gwyneth’s fingers swiftly tapping on the keyboard. His mouth, initially tightly shut, slowly fell open as if he could swallow an entire egg. The phrase “mind–boggling” was the only way he could describe everything he was witnessing.
Gwyneth’s eyes darted back and forth across the screen. With each keystroke, the computer screen changed rapidly.
Conventional investigative and tracking methods were too slow, and there was also the risk of the files being tampered with. That’s why Gwyneth, drawing upon her years of hacking expertise, directly infiltrated Glen Corporation’s internal system. Despite its security measures, she skillfully modified two programs, transforming the entire Glen Corporation’s intranet into uncharted territory for her.
A soft chuckle escaped Gwyneth’s lips as she continued her search. She thought to herself, ‘Once all this mess is resolved, I’ll need to rebuild Glen Corporation’s intranet. Otherwise, it would be quite embarrassing.‘
After a few more minutes, the investigation yielded conclusive results, directly implicating two shareholders of Glen Corporation.
Gwyneth thought. “The internal affairs of Glen Corporation appear to be even more intricate than I anticipated.‘ She narrowed her eyes slightly, but her hands never ceased their swift movement. She promptly exited the intranet and seamlessly switched to the surveillance footage program, completing the transition in no more than five seconds.
Gwyneth used code to filter the surveillance footage from the past two days, effortlessly extracting the footage with abnormalities. She retrieved a small USB drive from the drawer and swiftly plugged it into the USB port. Extracting, copying, ejecting… Her actions flowed seamlessly, as if she had practiced them countless times.
After closing the program and shutting down the computer, Gwyneth removed the USB drive and looked up, only to find Wesley wearing a completely astonished expression. She remarked, “Seeing you like this makes me question whether you’re capable of being my assistant.”
“Boss, you… You’re simply amazing…”
As Gwyneth’s sole assistant, Wesley was well aware of her abilities. However, every time he witnessed her skills firsthand, he couldn’t help
but be amazed and admire her even more.
“Go. I’m entrusting this task to you. Find the culprits responsible for all of this.” Gwyneth instructed.
“Boss, you can count on me.” Wesley was about to deliver an impassioned speech, but as soon as he opened his mouth, he met Gwyneth’s gaze and sheepishly closed it.
In the brief moment when Gwyneth had accessed her hidden user account earlier, someone with keen eyes had taken notice. Her
computer automatically powered on, and a message appeared on the screen. Gwyneth glanced at the sender’s ID and couldn’t help but
smile.
[Master! Oh my gosh! Am I seeing things? You’re actually online!]
The message had been left by a user ID named “ShadowCipher.”
Gwyneth was undoubtedly acquainted with this individual. In the realm of hackers, she was undeniably his mentor. Gwyneth vividly recalled when ShadowCipher had publicly declared his lifelong aspiration within the hacker community, expressing his desire for her acknowledgment.
Gwyneth realized that she had been absent from the hacker world for quite some time and hadn’t been in touch with ShadowCipher.
She replied: [It’s been a while. I’m doing fine, and I hope you’re doing well loo.]
ShadowCipher responded: (Master, Master! Please don’t log off! You can’t imagine how much I yearn for your return to the hacker world!
It’s so thrilling here!)
When it came to the excitement that the word “thrilling” conveyed, Gwyneth had to admit that she relished that sensation as well. However, the demands of the real world had become overwhelming. Despite her ample energy, she couldn’t stretch herself thin. “I promise you, I’ll log in and chat with you whenever I have some free time. I’ll join you when I can.”
Although ShadowCipher felt a tinge of disappointment from this response, receiving any form of answer was better than none. The two exchanged greetings and then logged off simultaneously.
Later that afternoon, as Gwyneth emerged from the break room after a short respite, she noticed Wesley entering through the door.
“Boss, we’ve got some news.”
“Good to see you making progress.” Gwyneth accepted the USB drive from Wesley, giving him an approving look, and proceeded to insert it into the computer to play the videos.
The previously copied videos had been reviewed once again. Gwyneth was well aware that the selected ones held the vital pieces of evidence she required.
