Chapter 145 Suicide Attempt
Upon hearing Simon’s words, Roman calmly said, “Sometimes, what the naked eye sees may not necessarily be the truth.”
“Heh. I see that Erin is enjoying it quite a bit. And she insists she has nothing to do with Matthew. Does she really think I’m a fool?” Simon felt slight displeasure in his heart. He detested women who said one thing but did the other.
Ever since being betrayed by Megan, his impression of women had taken a drastic plummet.
Roman wanted to say something to defend Erin, but he’d just witnessed her embracing and kissing Matthew. How could that be
explained? Did she betray Chandler? Or did some conflict arise between her and Chandler?
Suddenly, the wooden door was opened, and Erin stormed out with a slightly flushed face and an angry expression. As soon as she came out, she saw Roman’s back and Simon on the stairs. She guessed they’d probably witnessed the scene earlier.
Thinking of that, she felt even more awkward and embarrassed.
Roman turned to look at her. He asked, “Erin, what’s wrong with you? You don’t look too good.”
She lowered her head and said, “I’m feeling a bit unwell. I’ll go back first. Can you please take care of the bill? I’ll give you the money tomorrow.”
Simon looked at her with a puzzled expression, feeling that things seemed a bit different from what he’d imagined. Roman wanted to ask more, but Erin sidestepped him and quickly walked up the stairs.
As Erin passed by Simon, he instinctively reached out and grabbed her arm. “What’s going on between you and Matthew?”
This question made Erin go ballistic. “What’s going on? I’ve already said I have nothing to do with him! Whoever gets drunk and behaves erratically in the future, be careful! I’ll beat them to a pulp the next time this happens!”
She forcefully shook off Simon’s hand and continued walking up the stairs in a fit of rage. After Erin turned the corner and walked into the corridor, Matthew happened to open the wooden door and walk out.
He was taken aback to see both Roman and Simon in front of him.
Matthew’s tone was somewhat unnatural as he spoke up. “You guys. Why are you here?”
Roman’s gaze was glum. He’d already deciphered the hidden meaning in Erin’s words, and his tone was quite sarcastic as he said, Matthew, if you’re truly a man, be straightforward and honest in your dealings. Why did you force yourself against a woman?”

“Hey, watch your words! What do you mean I forced myself-” Matthew regretted what he’d done. Erin’s slap had awakened him from his
drunken stupor.
Roman sneered, “You know exactly what I’m talking about. Watch yourself. Erin is not a woman you should be chasing after.“.
Matthew watched as Roman walked up the stairs and angrily questioned, “Why can’t I have feelings for her? She’s not married; she doesn’t even have a boyfriend! Why can’t I pursue her? Mind your own business, Roman. Just because she’s your assistant, don’t think of
yourself as her guardian!”
Roman suddenly turned around and gave him a glare. “I believe Erin has clearly rejected you before. Why do you have to keep bothering
her?”
Seeing his knowing expression, Matthew remembered that Erin had mentioned having someone she liked. He raised an eyebrow and asked, “Roman, don’t tell me that the person Erin likes is you. Damn it! I won’t believe it!”
Based on how Erin interacted with Roman like a friend, he didn’t believe that Roman was the man she liked!
Faced with Matthew’s questioning, Roman mysteriously smiled, said nothing, and walked away.
“Roman, say something!” Matthew shouted after him.
Simon, who had been spectating the whole time, slowly walked up the stairs too. He couldn’t help but chuckle. It seemed like Erin had a lot of admirers pining after her.

Meanwhile, Roman, feeling worried about Erin, quickly paid the bill and left the barbecue restaurant to catch up with her. As soon as he came out, he saw the two men following behind Erin. At first, he felt a pang of anxiety, but he quickly recognized Dave and Hank. He’d seen them on the set before.
They were Chandler’s men. Roman had seen them before among Chandler’s special forces bodyguards. Their resemblance to each other had left a deep impression on him.
Roman slowed his pace and headed back toward the hotel behind them.
When Erin returned to her hotel room, she went straight to take a shower. Twenty minutes later, she walked out of the bathroom. She’d taken a quick shower, and her hair was already dry.
It was late now, and Erin was exhausted from the day’s events.
She had switched her phone to silent mode earlier and saw that there were three missed calls, all from Matthew. Erin ignored them and tossed her phone onto the dresser, no longer paying it any attention.
As she turned off the bedside lamp and prepared to sleep, her phone started buzzing!
She didn’t want to answer it, thinking it was probably Matthew calling. But the phone kept buzzing incessantly, even though it was on silent mode, it still made a piercing sound in the quiet night.
In the end, Erin sat up and pressed the answer key while scolding, “Can’t you leave me alone? It’s late, can’t you let me sleep?”
The other person was clearly taken aback and paused for a few seconds before sobbing, “Erin, it’s me, Gavin-”

Erin immediately turned on the bedside lamp and anxiously asked, “Gosh, I’m so sorry, Gavin. I didn’t see who was calling me. Did I scare you with my tone earlier? Why are you calling me so late?”
Gavin choked with suppressed sobs, “Erin, please come home quickly! Mom… She’s currently in the hospital. They’re trying to save her!”
This news jolted Erin awake. Her drowsiness vanished, and her heart was filled with anxiety. Her voice trembled as she asked, “What
happened? Gavin, please tell me!”
“Mom came back early from the countryside tonight and said she wanted to bring supper to Dad, but after she returned from the mart, she
locked herself in her room and didn’t come out. Even while I was playing games in my room, I could hear Mom crying. I went to check on
her, but she said it was nothing. But But half an hour ago, I went to the bathroom and saw that the light in Mom’s room was still on. I went to check on Mom again, but she didn’t say anything. So, I pushed the door open and went in-”

“And then? Hurry, tell me!” Erin was extremely panicked.
Gavin sobbed hard as he choked, “After I went in, I saw that Mom had taken half a bottle of sleeping pills! I immediately called an
ambulance, and now I’m outside the emergency room.”
After hearing that, Erin finally understood what was going on. Her mother, Cherry, must have encountered something that she couldn’t
bear, so she attempted suicide!
Gavin didn’t know the specific details either. Erin continued to ask, “What about Dad? Where is he?”
“Dad hasn’t come home all night. I called him, but his phone is switched off. Nobody answered the landline at the mart either.”
By then, Erin had already gotten up and was searching for her clothes in the wardrobe. While searching, she said, “Gavin, you stay at the emergency room and don’t go anywhere. Call Aunt Charlotte and ask her to go to the hospital. I’ll rush back home immediately! If anything happens, call me anytime. If Mom comes out of the emergency room, call me immediately. Understand?”
“Ok, Erin. I’ll stay at the hospital and won’t go anywhere.”
Erin quickly hung up. She was as nervous as a mouse. Right then, she was so terrified that she didn’t know what to do. Just the thought of something happening to Cherry scared her out of her wits. Tears gushed uncontrollably from her eyes.

“Oh, Mom! Why did you do something so drastic? Wait for me I’ll be home soon!” Erin swiftly put on her clothes. She even wore her black shirt inside out in her hurry.
After putting on her cropped jeans, the first person that came to her mind was Chandler. She needed his help. If he could send a helicopter

to take her back to her hometown, she could go back in the shortest time possible.
She’d dialed his phone number before instantly hanging up, realizing that Chandler’s grandfather was going through a critical period. Though she didn’t know the specifics, she thought she shouldn’t bother him at such a critical period. She was a considerate girlfriend, after all.
With tears streaming down her face, Erin put on her shoes, grabbed her bag, and walked out of the hotel room. She slung her shoulder bag across her body and went to find Roman. Only he could help her at a time like this.
However, Roman didn’t come to open the door even after Erin had been knocking on it for some time. When she called his phone, she found that it was switched off. Erin couldn’t have known that Roman’s phone had run out of battery on his way back to the hotel.. Moreover, Roman ran into the director who had gone out to buy cigarettes and they went to the hotel’s bar to discuss the film.
Unable to find Roman, the only person Erin could think of was Simon. She didn’t consider Matthew because she was still annoyed with him for kissing her while being drunk and didn’t want to deal with him.
When Erin knocked on Simon’s hotel room door, he was genuinely surprised. He’d just finished showering, and his hair was still dripping wet.

Before Simon could say anything, Erin said, “I’m sorry for disturbing you so late! There’s an emergency at home, and I wanted to ask if you can contact any helicopter transport. I want to go back to my hometown by helicopter because my mom attempted suicide by taking sleeping pills!”
Simon was stunned, and his hand holding the towel against his hair froze. The next moment, he regained his composure and replied, Yes, I can make arrangements for that. Wait for me at the door. I’ll get dressed immediately.”

“Thanks!” Erin’s eyes were full of gratitude as she said that one word.
In less than three minutes, Simon came out wearing a jeans shirt. He walked quickly while briefing, “I’ll drive you to a private hospital in Fleuverton. The director is a friend of mine, and I’ll call to borrow his helicopter as we drive there.”
