14 WHO THE HELL IS EDDY?
Ethan became cold and silent as they continued the journey to the hospital. She never seems to understand this part of him, his moods, or the switch. Eventually, they got to the hospital and
attended to Olivia.
They were back on the road in a short while, and Ethan remained cold. As the night fell, Madison fell asleep in the car.
Ethan came down and opened the passenger seat. He removed the seat belt and picked Madison up, shutting the door with his left leg. He carried her to her room. He tucked her in, covering her with a
duvet.
He touched her cheeks and watched quietly. Madison slept like a baby. She curled herself up in the blanket and wrapped herself slowly, like a child needing her mother. Ethan was drawn to her.
He slowly sat beside her and removed his shoe and his suit. He unbuttoned his shirt and lay beside her. He wrapped himself in the other half of the duvet and watched her for a few minutes.
The sudden heat underneath the duvet drew Madison; she slowly moved close to the source. She suddenly unhooked her gown while still asleep. She moved closer to Ethan without knowing he was lying to her.
Ethan had no mind of doing anything to her, but Madison kept coming closer and closer to him; as she wrapped her hands around him like he was some giant teddy, she could find solace.
At this point, she had unconsciously taken off her clothes and was left with just her underwear. She wrapped her hands and legs around him; she seemed more comfortable than she had ever been
around him.
Ethan felt more relaxed and thought she probably needed attention and was unconsciously pampered. He thought to return the favor and hold her close.
“It’s been so long; I miss you, Eddy,” she said sleepily.
Shocked at what he had just heard, he withdrew himself from her. What did he hear? Did she call him. the name of another man? For a few minutes, he remained frozen with his eyes wide open. Madison noticed the arms around her pulling away, so she drew him closer.
“Who is Eddy?” He began interrogating her, but Madison was fast asleep, and he wouldn’t let her, not after what he just heard.
He shook her consistently until she was up.
Shocked at the sight of Ethan on the same bed with her, she quickly reached for the duvet to cover up.
“What the hell, Ethan? What are you doing here?”
She was terrified as to why he wasn’t wearing his clothes. “What is going on here, Ethan?”

“You tell me because I am lost. Is this why you’ve been so persistent about having a divorce? Have you been cheating on me, Madison?” He continued with his interrogation. Madison was not ready for this.
Without any response, he continued, “I am your husband, Madison, and you are my wife. If I come naked to you, I have the right to carry out with you our marital duties, and so do you.”
“Not again with this marital duty, Ethan. We are getting divorced, and there would be no need for all this harassment.” Madison’s response got to him.
He began to think. Did she marry me because she loved my money? No wonder she could survive two years without sex. She has been cheating with another man, and they probably have plans for my money. Ethan thought to himself.
“Are we done here?” Madison cuts him out of his thoughts.
“On the contrary,” he said as he pulled her close to himself, like he was going to force himself on her.
Madison let out a scream as she struggled to get herself up, but Ethan pinned her down on the bed and moved his lips closed to her for another minute. He stared at her, moved his mouth to her ears, and said, “I always knew you wanted my money, but I’m going to ensure you get nothing as we dissolve this marriage.” He growled as he got off the bed to leave.
Just before he opened the door, Madison angrily responded, “Fine, I’d leave with nothing; at least I know I’d be free of you!”
Those words got to him deeply, but he continued out of the room and slammed the door.
Madison’s tears rolled freely down her cheeks; she cried even louder, squeezing the blankets and throwing her pillow. She could not believe he thought she married him for his money. She had loved him all her life and only wished she got a little affection from him.
She had cried all night and couldn’t sleep when she noticed the sunlight reaching her face. She was both physically and emotionally drained as she tried to pick herself up from the bed.
She placed both feet on the floor while sitting at the edge of the bed. As she got up on her feet, the room got blurry as she tried to find her way to the door.
Ethan was sitting on a couch downstairs in the sitting room. He was reading through some newspapers when Evelyn interrupted.
“Good morning, sir. Do you care for breakfast now, sir?“Evelyn inquired about him.
“You can wait a bit for Madison. In the meantime, check why she isn’t down yet.” He responded with his eyes still fixed on his papers.
“Right away, sir,” she said as she reached Madison’s room. She knocked a couple of times and harder as the knocking progressed, but there was no response.
She finally checked the doorknob to see if the door was locked. The door was opened, and she quickly
entered the room.

On entering the room, she found Madison on the floor; she quickly rushed down to call for Ethan.
“Mr. Ethan!!, Miss Madison!! She screamed
Ethan rushed up immediately and found Madison had fainted. He quickly rushed her to the car and drove her off to the hospital.
This was different from what he was expecting. He was seated downstairs, waiting to demand an apology and explanation from the previous night. He couldn’t help but feel sorry as he waited outside for the doctors to attend to her. He couldn’t help but be worried about what happened.
A few minutes later, Madison was awake. She was surprised by her environment before Ethan walked in. He was the last person she wanted to see.
“Why am I here?” Madison asked
“You fainted, I guess. Evelyn found you, and I had to rush you down here,” he responded.
“How are you feeling? Did you hurt yourself? Are you in pain?” Ethan questioned her with care written all over his face; he tried to touch her to confirm if she was okay.
Madison stopped his hands and tried to get up. “I’m awake now; can I go home?”
“Anaemia? Really?? I mean, you have money, a maid to prepare meals for you, and a cook; how did you become so malnourished? Why haven’t you been feeding well?” He asked, ignoring her question about going home.
“I’m fine now, please. I need to get out of this place. I don’t need to be here,” she responded.
“Wait, what? Why are you in a hurry now? Do you want to leave so quickly so you can sign out divorce papers? Couldn’t you at least wait till you’re much better?”
“Ethan, you and I know you don’t need a wife by title or in person. So why do you have issues if I sign the divorce papers?” She responded
“Well, I do need a wife by title, and I’m not giving you a divorce,” he said, glancing at her as he looked
away.
Ethan has decided he won’t let her leave him for the guy named Eddy. He also looks forward to knowing who he is.
Olivia, standing by the door overhearing Ethan, sighed in relief. The world is finally failing to fulfill
her desires.
