Chapter 44
Soon, the dishes were served one after another.
Jacey, wearing gloves, skillfully peeled shrimp for Hugh. She leaned towards him, pressing her chest against his arm, before carefully placing the shrimp in the plate in front of him.
“Hugh, I remember you used to love this.”
Jacey looked up at him, her eyes full of affection, admiring his handsome, god–like features. “The shrimp here really is good,” she said. “The first time I had it was when you brought me here, and you even peeled the shrimp for me back then.”
Hugh glanced down at the woman in front of him, her face adorned with delicate makeup. He used to think it was fine, but today, for some reason, it gave him an indescribable feeling of disgust.
He indeed loved eating the shrimp here, but she ruined his appetite.
“Um, sis, the shrimp here was very fragrant and delicious.”
Mira, who was sitting one seat away, suddenly spoke. She was wearing two gloves, eating heartily, without even looking this way.
Hugh: “…………..”
Somehow, a wave of melancholy washed over him. Holding his fork, he simply ate the shrimp that Jacey had peeled.
Jacey was overjoyed and peeled even more vigorously.
Mira originally wanted to eat a few more, but as soon as she finished
peeling the shrimp in her hand and looked up, she found that only a few chili peppers were left in the large plate. The rest had been diligently peeled by Jacey and put into Hugh’s plate.
Seemingly aware of her gaze, Hugh picked up a translucent shrimp, his sexy thin lips curling into a smile at Mira, “This shrimp is truly irresistible.”
Mira sneered inwardly, suspecting that it wasn’t the shrimp that was delicious, but rather the person peeling it.
“Ms. Tyler, if you ask me, you can’t always indulge this man,” Mira removed her gloves, “Peeling shrimp, it’s usually a man’s job. Women, usually just need to sit and wait to eat.”
Jacey said with a laugh, “Mira, you’re so experienced. You’re so beautiful, there must have been many guys in college fighting to peel shrimp for you.”
After speaking, he turned to Hugh and said with a smile, “It’s these young girls who understand romance, truly enviable.”
Hugh kept his thin lips tightly shut, not saying a word. He just looked at the obscure Mira, his gaze as if he was looking at a frivolous, unscrupulous woman.
Mira was astonished. She had kindly taught Jacey, only for this woman to turn around and set a trap for her.
“Ms. Tyler laughed and said, ‘Haven’t you ever seen a pig run even if you’ve never eaten pork? Of course, with my looks, I’m not being modest when I say that indeed, many people have pursued me. However, I’m focused on my career, men would only slow down my money–making speed.“”
Hugh mocked, “You talk as if you’re good at making money.”
“Marrying you, isn’t that just about making money?” Mira’s eyes curved into crescents as she laughed, like the moon, as if it was truly an incredibly joyful thing.
Hugh choked, everyone choked.
Perhaps there had never been a woman who could speak so bluntly.
Chad was the first to burst into laughter, “Mira, you’re really interesting.”
“What I said was the truth,” Mira shrugged, “Just like you wealthy families talk about being well–matched in social and economic status, isn’t it also a money–making business? It’s all about forming powerful alliances to earn more money.”
Similarly, marrying a woman who is not of the same social status, isn’t it just like losing money?
The young girl’s fair face bore a trace of candid honesty, and her big eyes were clear and transparent.
Hugh subtly rotated the teacup in his hand, his gaze slightly deepening.
Sometimes, he really couldn’t understand how there could be a woman like Mira in the world.
Call her stupid, yet she saw through everything more than anyone else.
They said she was smart, but sometimes when she got tough, she was not at all pleasing.
Jacey glanced at Hugh’s silent expression, her heart sinking abruptly.
She had never seen Hugh stare at a woman like this before, she had a bad feeling. If she didn’t make Mira leave quickly, it could potentially
cause her a lot of trouble.
