Chapter 49
In the early afternoon, just past one o’clock, Celeste received Manuel’s call,
“I’ve tracked him down.”
Considering the specific situation, the police couldn’t file it as a missing
case. Without help from the police, they had to go find Myles themselves.
They quickly met up, and Manuel told them more details, “Cely, your father
is currently at Bayside Holiday Resort. I reached out to the resort staff, and
they
confirmed he checked in there around noon.”
Celeste fell into a brief silence upon hearing that Kendric had taken her
father to the resort.
Manuel drove the car in silence. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught
Sienna wearing a meaningful expression as she stared at him.
He ruffled her hair, “hey, that look on your face… what kind of mischief you
are up to again?”
Sienna smirked, “uh–ha, I’ve known your little secret.”
Celeste cleared her throat in embarrassment, “I told Sienna the content of

our phone call.”
Manuel wasn’t surprised. He calmly nodded and told Sienna, “now that
you’ve known it, just help me convey it to dad and mom.”
“No problem!”
Celeste blushed as hell with awkwardness. She hurriedly steered the
conversation away, “is Kendric there, too?”

Manuel shook his head, “not sure. I couldn’t pinpoint his location.”
Bayside Holiday Resort was owned by Melville Group, too. It nestled amidst
picturesque natural surroundings.
Myles was in quite high spirits. Why? Because Kendric told him this
morning, that he was going to take him to the place where he planned to
propose to Celeste.
Kendric and Myles shared a car. They were both a man of few words,
especially Kendric.
After a long silence, Kendric suddenly spoke up, “Mr. Alinsky, for now, let’s
keep this under wraps from Celeste. Wait until later when the venue is all set
up, and then we’ll bring her in.”
Myles, who had been dozing with his eyes half–closed in the car, woke up and took a moment to realize that Kendric was talking about the proposal.
Kendric added, “I want to give her a surprise.”
The car convoy soon arrived at the resort.
Stepping out of the car, Kendric was promptly greeted by the hotel manager, who rushed to guide him, “Mr. Melville, everything inside is ready.”
Kendric turned to the person behind him, “Mr. Alinsky.”
The/manager finally noticed the middle–aged man following Kendric. He was dressed in a classic suit jacket, blue shirt, and slightly worn leather shoes.
“Mr. Alinsky, how do you like the arrangement here?”
Myles raised his head. The crystal–clear chandeliers above cast a golden

champagne glow over the pristine lobby.
“It’s set up beautifully,” Myles commended after taking a stroll around.
“Mr. Alinsky, do you think Celeste will like it?”

It was a little after three in the afternoon when Celeste arrived at Bayside
Fishing Village.
As she made her way upstairs, she dialed Myles‘ number, and he finally
answered the call!
Celeste sighed of release from worry, “dad, why did you leave with Kendric without telling me? Do you know how…”
Myles was startled by the urgency in her voice, “Cely, what’s wrong?”
Celeste urgently pleaded, “stay right where you are. Don’t move. I’m on my way to find you, and there’s something important I need to talk to you about.”
Myles agreed, “okay, I will stay here waiting for you.”
Myles was in Kendric’s study, writing invitations. He was skilled in both painting and handwriting.
Celeste made her way inside. When she spotted her father, her eyes were welled up with tears, and she rushed over.
“Dad, can you please not run around like this?”
Myles patted her back gently, “why are you crying? Who upset you?”
Celeste shook her head, “what’s in your hand, dad?”

Myles offered her the invitation with a smile, “I’m writing the invitations for the engagement party of you and Kendric.”
The rose gold invitation sparkled brightly, but stung Celeste’s eyes. She took
a deep breath.
Rather than let her dad bask in a false sense of joy, she decided to be
straightforward.
“Dad, I need to tell you something.”
Seeing her serious expression, Myles put aside what he was holding, “sure,
go ahead.”
“Dad, I’m not gonna marry Kendric.”
Myles was taken aback. Just in the morning, Kendric had been busy preparing a proposal, and now, in the afternoon, his daughter was telling him she didn’t want to get married.
Celeste got straight to the point, “dad, you need to leave this place right
now.”
Myles felt a bit bewildered by the string of words from Celeste. His immediate response was to ask, “is it because Melville family hasn’t been treating you well?”
Celeste nodded, “…yes.”

She didn’t go into great detail, but Myles could sense the unspoken pain in her response.
Celeste had been a quite thoughtful girl. From childhood to adulthood, whenever something troubled her, she preferred to keep it to herself rather

than burden Myles.
Myles couldn’t imagine what had prompted his daughter to abruptly call off
her engagement with Kendric and end her eight–years love.
“Cely, come here.”
Celeste wasn’t sure how her father would react, so she approached
cautiously.
Myles opened his arms slowly.
Tears welled up in Celeste’s eyes.
She poured out everything about her life in Melville family to her father,
withholding nothing.
Myles, after hearing her story, felt a mix of shock and heartache.
“Cely, always remember, no matter when, you are first yourself, and only after that a daughter and a wife. Being yourself is the most important thing in your life, understand?”
Celeste vigorously nodded, and Myles affectionately ruffled her hair.
As for those who had hurt his daughter, Myles would not let them off lightly.
