The roses were tossed into the trash bin, mingling with the dirty waste. Their original color was barely recognizable.
The apartment door swung open, and Kendric’s leather shoes trod on the
floor with a thud.
Celeste’s disappearance had unleashed the desire of control that had long taken root within his heart. Like an unshackled dragon, he’s ready to spew
forth a fiery rage that no one could contain.
He pulled open a few drawers, but they were all empty.
“Sir,” a man reported, “the access card records for the building show that
Miss Alinsky left three days ago.”
Kendric slowly entered her bedroom.
In the corner was a cardboard box filled with sundries. Kendric’s eyes.
landed on it, and he spotted something very familiar inside.
He bent down and grabbed some scraps of paper from it.
It was a shredded painting. He randomly picked up two pieces and put
them together, showing the outline of a man.
Kendric stared at it for a moment, then his face turned pale, and a shiver
ran down his spine.
“Céleste, I seriously underestimated you.”
Here were all shredded pieces of his portraits.

Since Mary left Melville’s villa in the morning, an uneasy feeling kept
haunting her. It’s not until she received a call from butler Kash that she finally
so uneasy. understood why she had been feeling so

But today, they got the answer.
Kendric would turn into a volcano that may erupt at any time.
The grand villa was currently under a heavy cloud. Every servant dare not
make any noise. They tiptoed around and whispered.
As soon as Mary stepped into the living room, she saw the distraught expressions on Kash and Kendric’s mother Madelyn. The servants, both inside
and outside the villa, kept their heads down.
“Where’s Mr. Melville?”
Tears streamed down Madelyn’s face.
Butler Kash soothed her while explaining to Mary, “sir is up in the study.”
Mary was about to head upstairs but Kash reminded, “he has locked the
second–floor lattice gate.”
Once that gate’s locked, they can’t make their way up to the second floor.
“What’s going on?”
Madelyn Quinn shook her head, “when he came back at noon, his… his
expression was so grim, it sent chills down my spine. He went upstairs, grabbed.
a golf club, and without a word, smashed every single flower in the yard.”

Mary cast a glance at the yard. It had been full of blooming flowers and lush greenery in the morning, but now it was a complete mess.
She wandered around downstairs for a bit, feeling utterly clueless about what to do. Just when her anxiety was reaching a boiling point, a car outside
honked its horn.
A Jeep Wrangler rolled into the yard, its tires caked with thick mud, clearly
having been on a long journey.
When Cade Powell stepped out of the car, Mary caught a glimmer of hope.
Cade is Kendric’s most trusted right–hand man, who is a retired soldier with
decisive personality, robust figure and sharp mind.
Mary breathed a sigh of relief. She greeted Cade from a distance, “hey,
Cade!”
Cade removed his hat, revealing his rugged and tanned face, but his eyes
gleamed with determination, and he flashed Mary a toothy grin.
“Why are you back?”
Cade always rushes around, handling Kendric’s top–secret and high–stakes
matters. He’s secret in his trace.
Cade grinned, “boss called me back.”
Mary’s heart missed a beat. Though she guessed Celeste should be the
reason Kendric called back Cade, she couldn’t be absolutely certain.
She understood well that if Cade was involved, it meant things got literally
serious.

“Why did he get you back?”
Cade didn’t spell it out, “boss’s private affairs.”
Upstairs, in Kendric’s study.
Eight massive electronic screens adorned the expansive walls, incessantly
playing surveillance footage from various airport exits that day.
As soon as Cade stepped in, he fixed his eyes on the surveillance screens.
After two hours, he spoke with gravity, “I found her.”
He had a knack for tracking people down. No matter how deep someone
was hiding, he could pick them out from the multitude.
Cade paused the video and circled a blurry figure. He zoomed in on the
image, and Kendric examined it closely.
“That’s her.”
Cade had heard Celeste before, Kendric’s fiancée.
“Boss, what’s the plan?”
Kendric kept his gaze on the girl on the screen, “bring her back.”
Cade grinned, “boss, you know my style. There are various ways to bring back a person, alive or dead.”
He playfully asked, “which one you prefer?”
Kendric looked up at him, “do I need to answer it?”
“Alive, got it.”
“Tracking is my specialty. It’s just a bit trickier to bring the prey back

alive.”
Kendric fell silent, and Cade felt it a bit awkward. “okay, then boss, I gotta
do some preparations first.”
As he reached the door, Cade glanced back. In the spacious study, his boss
was replaying the snippet of Celeste walking out of the airport over and over
again.
Cade shook his head and let out a sigh. These Melvilles, they were all like
this–super smart, incredibly talented, but when it came to matters of love thing,
they turned into fools.
Out in the courtyard, Mary was directing gardeners to clean up the
shattered flowerpots. Cade picked up a nearly dead flower,“who did this? Quite brutal.”
Mary hushed him, “who else could it be!”
Cade chuckled, “that’s it. His wife ran off. How could he be in a great mood?!”
