Gwen quickly hugged her. “Carol, what’s wrong?”
Caroline nestled in Gwen’s arms, tears slowly filling her eyes.
Gwen simply held Caroline, feeling at a loss. She didn’t know what had happened, nor did she
know how to comfort her friend.
Fortunately, Caroline’s phone rang. Kirk was calling.
Gwen was delighted. A savior had finally appeared.
She picked up the phone and handed it to Caroline. “Carol, Kirk is calling. You should answer the call. I promise not to complain about him for taking up our bonding time.”
Soon, Gwen saw something unusual.
Caroline simply looked at her phone and let the screen flicker, refusing to answer the call.
Moreover, her eyes no longer held the joy and happiness they normally had at the mention of
Kirk. Instead, there was fear.
