Caroline opened Google on her phone, and after entering Marietta’s name, she clicked on the Wikipedia article about her.
According to the article, Marietta had had a happy family when she was young, but her life had changed after her daughter had been abducted.

Marietta replied very slowly, probably because she was processing her emotions. “It’s okay. In

Caroline apologized once more.
After a long while, Marietta replied, “I just checked the time. It should be around 3:00 am in Easton
now. Why aren’t you asleep? Did I wake you up?”

her.

Caroline said, “That’s great, Ms. Weiss. I’m sure you’ll find your daughter again one day.”
“I hope so.”
Marietta asked, “Caroline, can I call you Carrie?”
“Of course, it would be my pleasure.”
“Then, you shouldn’t call me Ms. Weiss anymore. It sounds so formal. Just call me Aunt Mary. When I publish my new play, I’ll get you to write my foreword.”
Caroline was excited. “It would be my honor.”
She would never have even imagined that she would have the chance to write Marietta’s foreword.
This woman was too approachable.
