Chapter 8 St*pid and Rich

At the mall entrance. Observing Elvia’s refusal to heed her advice, Kirsten became enraged and ushered the two girls with her away. Kirsten didn’t wish to be dragged down by Elvia in the future. Following Elvia’s treatment, the little girl’s breathing gradually stabilized. Simultaneously, the ambulance arrived at the scene. Elvia removed the specialized tools from the little girl’s body and stowed them in her bag. She then spoke to the middle-aged woman, “She’s stable for now, but she still needs to go to the hospital for treatment.” Concluding her statement, Elvia stood up to depart. Hastily, the middle-aged woman called out to her, “Miss, thank you so much. May I know your name? We would like to repay your kindness.” “My surname is Gilmore,” Elvia replied, turned around, and left. Henry arrived just in time to catch a glimpse of Elvia’s departing figure. He was in a wheelchair this time, with Maverick pushing him. Henry gazed at Elvia for a while, finding her figure somewhat familiar. Before he could contemplate further, Arthur had already approached the now conscious Heather. “Heather, how are you feeling?” Heather weakly smiled, “Arthur, I’m fine. Just now, a lady saved me. She’s so amazing.” Elvia had reached Heather before she had completely lost consciousness. “A lady?” Arthur inquired. “Yes! A very beautiful lady. She gave me a pill, and then I felt no pain in my body…” Heather grew more and more animated. “She put some special tools on me. It hurt a little, but it made me feel better.” Arthur was momentarily taken aback and then chuckled, “Then she must not be as skilled as Gill.” In his heart, Gill was an all-knowing genius. Henry glanced back at the retreating figure, deep in thought. “Henry, I’m sorry for worrying you.” Sensing Henry’s silence, Heather thought he was upset, so she apologized cautiously. Henry met her clear gaze. The anger and anxiety within him subsided, his long and slender hand gently touching Heather’s head, his voice tender. “Let’s head to the hospital first.” Inside the hospital. Within the VIP ward. Connor Benson pushed the door open briskly and stepped inside. Excitement gleamed in his handsome face. “Mr. Bradshaw, I bring good news. The toxins in Heather’s body have reduced by more than half.” He served as Heather’s personal physician, solely responsible for her health. Although he had come to Banyan City this time along with Heather, Heather felt very insecure about her appearance and avoided meeting people, so he normally wouldn’t appear before her. Therefore, he didn’t accompany them to the mall. Arthur suddenly stood up, looking at him in disbelief. “Really?” A tinge of surprise flashed in Henry’s eyes. “Are you sure?” “Yes!” Connor extended the examination report to Henry, his voice brimming with enthusiasm. “Not just that, the pustules near the corners of Heather’s eyes have disappeared as well.” Arthur’s eyes widened. “The pustules are gone? You’re not joking, are you?” Heather was not naturally unattractive. She had been poisoned at the age of two, resulting in pustules and sores covering her face. The poison was powerful and had stumped them for three years; they couldn’t even identify the type of poison, let alone control its progression. In truth, if they failed to find an antidote to the poison, Heather wouldn’t survive the spring. Henry was troubled. Very few individuals were aware that Heather had taken the poison for him. Those people had initially intended to poison him. “How could I joke about something like that?” Connor rebuked. “I’ve examined her thoroughly, and her toxins have indeed reduced by more than half.” Connor peered at Henry and asked excitedly, “Mr. Bradshaw, where did you find such an excellent doctor?” Having studied medicine since childhood, he was one of the few medical geniuses of the time. Yet he was at a loss when it came to Heather’s illness. This revelation greatly affected him, hence his excitement at the prospect of someone being able to manage Heather’s poison. He wanted to learn from that person. Henry’s eyes narrowed as he glanced at Heather, then he questioned Tanya Duran, “Did the person who saved Heather today leave a name?” Tanya pondered for a moment and responded, “She only mentioned her last name was Gilmore, and before I could inquire further, she left.” “Gilmore?” Arthur mused, “There’s only one Gilmore family in Banyan City. Could it be Kirsten?” Contemplating this, Arthur slapped his leg. “It must be her. I heard that Kirsten was studying medicine under Dr. Mata, and she’s pretty. She fits the description of the person Heather was talking about.” Henry pursed his lips and remained silent. Arthur playfully approached him and teased, “Mr. Bradshaw, how about marrying Ms. Gilmore?” Henry raised his gaze and lightly patted Arthur’s cheek. “Move away.” Henry was troubled. Since he had agreed to call off the engagement, he couldn’t back out now. He fell silent for a moment. “Maverick, prepare a gift and go to the Gilmore’s residence to express our gratitude.” He should go in person. Yet he felt Kirsten might not wish to see a disabled man like himself. In the Rellyward Community. When Elvia returned, both Leonel and Jessica were sitting on the sofa, unmoving, with a hint of anxiety. Elvia poured a glass of water and glanced at them. “What’s wrong with you guys?” Leonel saw Elvia and sprang up, grabbing her arm anxiously. “Slap me!” Elvia was at a loss for words. She quietly retracted her hand and coughed softly. “What’s happened?” “I feel like I’m in a dream!” Leonel glanced at the house and swallowed hard. “I checked online. Just one set of furniture in this house is worth thousands of dollars. They’re renting this fantastic house to us for 80 dollars a month. Do you think we’re falling into a pyramid scheme lair?” Leonel gazed at the doorway and whispered, “We should flee. If their boss shows up later, we won’t be able to escape.” Elvia’s mouth twitched, wondering if her father was becoming paranoid. She patted Leonel on the shoulder. “Mr. Gilmore, this is the Rellyward Community.” Leonel blinked. “I know. It’s the most upscale community in Banyan City.” “Who do you think would dare to run a pyramid scheme here?” Elvia was somewhat speechless. She thought, “You’re the third young master of the Gilmore family. You’ve seen a lot of the world. Why are you getting scared over a house?” Leonel was taken aback for a moment. “True.” After a brief pause, he added, “Then why would the landlord rent it to us so cheaply?” He couldn’t comprehend it. Elvia rubbed her temples. “Didn’t the agent mention that the landlord needed someone to watch over the house for him?” “But 80 dollars seems too little.” Elvia chuckled, “Maybe he’s just foolish and wealthy.” “Indeed.” Leonel nodded. Elvia thought, “Well, I’m not foolish or wealthy!” But she had no choice because her father was struggling financially. Jessica also sighed with relief. “Since the house is good, let’s live in it. Elvia brought us good luck, so we can live in this lovely house.” Elvia fell silent.
