Chapter 23
Hugh looked down at the woman in front of him. Her baby–fat face was bulging with anger, and her whole face was indescribably vivid.
Yet he somehow was a bit upset.
He thought, “How come she wants the divorce more than I do?
“Countless socialites have tried to get my attention.”
“The police have just left, and you want to divorce me in the blink of an eye? If word gets out, the Leopold family will be humiliated.” Hugh Moosened his tie, irritated.
Mira said, “I see. You are afraid that it will get out that you falsely accused me of stealing, and you will make a fool of yourselves.”
Hugh’s face went sullen, and a trace of embarra**ment flashed across his deep eyes. “Stay here for now. We’ll divorce after a period of time.”
“That won’t do.” Mira looked distressed. “I’m so poor and greedy of money. What if something is missing from your study, and you say that it is me?”
Hugh choked, and his face turned even colder. “Mira, are you done?– You can never let it pa**, can you?”
“What are you talking about?”
Mira sat down in the chair and frowned at him. “I genuinely don’t like being here. I don’t like any of your family. Everyone in your family hates and bullies the poor, fawns on the rich, and is overbearing.”

Hugh’s anger, which he had managed to suppress, flared up. “And do you think we’re fans of you, Mira? You have no respect for your elders, and you are sharp–toned and arrogant.”
Mira nodded and casually spread her hands. “So be it. I don’t care how you think of me.‘

Hugh was speechless.
He now knew how stubborn and cheeky she was.
Quarreling with her would do him no good.
He was amazed by Xavier’s capabilities to find him such a fiancée.
Hugh pinched his brow and changed the subject, saying, “My dad asked me to take you out to live. What do you think?”
“No way!” Mira shook her head decisively. “Absence makes the heart grow fonder. You know the saying, right? I have to stay here to make your parents hate me. How else can I divorce you?”
Though Hugh wanted the same thing, seeing how eager Mira was to divorce him upset him a lot.
“It’s OK to make my parents hate you, but you have to be careful not to push too hard. My dad has heart disease, and my mom has high blood pressure. Don’t get out of the line and piss them off.”
Mira was stunned.
She thought, “Who knows? Both Brenden and Taryn are in poor health.
“I guess I have to be cautious. Once something goes wrong, perhaps the Boyle family will get implicated.

“Damn! Why is everything so hard?”
Seeing how distressed Mira was, Hugh raised his eyebrows.
He was glad that finally, something got to trouble her.
Soon after, the maid came up and asked them to dinner.
“OK. We’re coming.”
Mira stroked her belly and was hungry. She figured that arguing with them today consumed her a lot.
Hugh was surprised. “You just had a fight with my parents, and now you have no problem eating with them?”
What’s wrong with that? I’m not the one who wronged anyone. It’s you and your family who should be embarra**ed,” Mira said and went downstairs to eat.
Hugh was silent for a long time. No matter how much he disliked Mira, he had to admit that she was not like any of the women he knew.
As for the difference between Mira and those women, well, he was pretty sure that she was way cheekier than them.

Brenden and Taryn were sitting in the dining room downstairs.
Taryn was in a bad mood.
She sighed, “You shouldn’t have asked me to dinner. If I see Mira, I’ll lose my appetite.”
“You’re thinking too much. She may not come down for dinner at all,” Brenden comforted her.
